The Top Plot Opponents Ever Seen In the Battledome by rascle90
--------
Neopia boasts a rich history of Battledome opponents in its 25 year history, including a variety of recognisable opponents from its most prolific plots. In this article we break down some of the best, ranging from the most well-designed to the most fearsome in battle, so enjoy this trip down memory lane!.
Monoceraptor (Tyrannian Invasion) 950 HP Not many creatures are capable of instilling fear in such tough individuals as the Tyrannians, and the specimen we are talking about is the evillest being that has ever stepped foot in their infamous plateau. That's right, we are talking about the Monoceraptor. This monstrous beast who is covered with scars, a product of its victories in battle, invaded its way into Tyrannia in 2001 with a primitive fury. At that time, the Monoceraptor boasted some 950 HP, something formidable and almost unheard of for the classic battledome. It was very difficult for players at the time to defeat this monster and its bestial force, however, with collective effort and the power of Sabre X, Neopians were able to bring this being to its demise. Nevertheless, this memorable challenge is still relevant in our time, both for its legendary phrase that still inspires fear in even the bravest Battledomers and for its sordid image that lingers on collectible cards and weapons forged with its own claws. Spectre of Lord Darigan (Champions of Meridell) 5,000 HP What is more terrifying than the evil Lord Darigan? His creeping form, a Korbat wrapped in cursed fire, wielding a powerful flurry of attacks that were almost impossible to stop and with a high level of HP making him seemingly invincible.
Thanks to the power of his Orb acquired in the most intense moment of the battle of Meridell, he obtained his spectral form with which, together with his weapons such as the gauntlet of doom, Darigan's orb or Darigan's staff, he could do incredible damage to the most reckless of Neopians. In the end, the bravest players alongside the Champions of Meridell ultimately triumphed. However, the image of this dark and sinister Lord Darigan remains engraved in Neopian history as his image now prevails in one of the most expensive stamp albums.. and most recently appearing in the Void Within. Oblivion (Faeries Ruin) 10,000,000 HP Emerging from the amalgam of inferior dark beings full of rage, courage and revenge, this incredible beast, almost impossible to defeat, gestated in the battle of Faerieland: Oblivion, the ultimate Battledome foe of the plot of The Faeries Ruin. Having a rather large HP and with a weapon package worthy of any battledome expert (Jade Scorchstone, Thyoras Tear, Ghostkerbomb, Prismatic Mirror, etc.), this grotesque and evil being was a worthy opponent to which many Neopians succumbed while trying to defeat him with a strange mechanic he possessed. What was it? Oblivion was in fact immune to one element (it healed him), and weak to another, but the elements rotated periodically; having this knowledge could have helped Neopians to defeat him, but without it, perhaps the history of the Faerieand would be different.
Lord Kass (Battle for Meridell)
4,000 HP Who does not know Darigan’s favourite character Lord Kass? Corrupted and driven insane by The Three during the plot “Battle for Meridell”, he was the War Boss to defeat during these series of events. Extremely dangerous with his 4000 starting HP and his deadly weapons Naralus and Trithduril , definitely one of the best and extraordinary opponents in Neopian plot history. Additionally to his deadly swords, he also carried a Wand of the Dark Faerie (WoDF) and his famous “Lord Kass Battle Shield”, equipment that was able to block up to 5 different types of attacks. Nowadays he still is one of the most famous and remarkable Neopian characters.
Captain Scarblade (Curse of Maraqua)
100,000 HP Whether a Pirate Supporter, or a Maraquan forces supporter in the plot Curse of Maraqua, you already know who Captain Scarblade is. Captain Scarblade, Captain of the Revenge and once ruler of the fives seas of Neopia, is one of the most iconic Lupes in Neopian history. He was the War Boss, after 4 waves of enemies, that you had to fight if you picked the Maraquan forces side during this event. As his homologue King Kelpbeard, Captain Scarblade had 100,000 beginning HP. Extremely dangerous challenger with his multiple high-end Battledome weapons. You were at his will during the battle: Jade Scorchstone, Thyoras Tear, Moehog Skull, Sword of Skardsen, and obviously his own Scarblades Sword. As mentioned in the Gallery of Evil, “he strikes fear into the heart of every sea-faring Neopian”/ The Bringer of Night (Hannah and the Ice Caves)
100,000 HP Easily one of the cruelest evil in Neopia, The Bringer was released by the thief Kanrik during the Hannah and the Ice Caves plot. Known to be a demigod of death and destruction, this evil had only one interest: destroy everything that lay in his path, especially Bori civilizations. Whether a Hannah’s or a Thieves’ supporter, you must have feared The Bringer. You could have fought him during the first wave of opponents by picking the Thieves Guild, during his accidental release by Kanrik. As a Battledome Challenger, he had 3 strong weapons: Thyoras Tear, Sword of Skardsen, and a Moehog Skull. As usual in War Bosses, he also had 100,000 HP.
Razul (Lost Desert Plot)
65,535 HP Users were deceived into believing the final boss of the Lost Desert Plot would be its flagship antagonist, Prince Jazan. However, upon Jazan’s late redemption it was revealed that there was one final enemy responsible for the undead curse placed upon the citizens of Qasala in an attempt to gain immortality, Jazan’s own father Razul. His appearance was unsettling, taking on one of Neopets’ most eerie appearances as a tall, looming skeletal Kyrii set ablaze. He wore a full dark regal cloak with a pharaoh's cobra set upon his crown. Upon his late game resurrection, Razul boasted a difficulty of 100,000 but only with a starting HP of 65,535, making for a fearsome opponent with blockers such as Thyoras Tear and Jade Scorchstone and the full freezer Moehog Skull. Wrath (War for the Obelisk)
1,000,000 HP
While it's debatable if the War of the Obelisk qualifies as a plot when compared to other more balanced greats such as the Battle for Meridell or Curse of Maraqua, it did introduce a fantastic spread of bosses for each of the six factions. Four of these bosses represent famously paired characteristics such as Greed, Pride, Envy and Wrath.. However, the last of which is the opponent I’d like to highlight. Wrath was identifiably a Krawk in appearance, however his physical form was something between a ghost and a bright-orange flaming skeleton similar to the aforementioned Razul. While each of the final bosses had a fantastically designed appearance worthy of their own write up, Wrath, the Brute Squad representative, was a personal favourite in how fearsome they appeared. This set it apart from its peers who were all relatively, and likely purposefully, non-threatening in appearance aside from their ghostly, godlike status. Wrath boasted a incredible 1,000,000 starting HP and an incredible battledome kit of Thyoras Tear, Moehog Skull, Leaded Elemental Vial, Skarls Hasty Mace and Grapes of Wrath to boot. Malum (The Wraith Resurgence)
442 HP (on Hard)
Malum was presented as one of the major antagonists of the Wraith Resurgence plot. Once a blue lupe named Reizo, he was cursed by the Darkest Faerie when visiting his friend Kaia in Faerieland which turned him into the creature known as Malum. From a battledome perspective, Malum was not at all considered a threat when compared to other end-game plot bosses. With a maximum starting HP of 442, he could be taken down by any single user with a decent battledome pet as opposed to other bosses which were slowly chipped away at by the community or designed to win against all but only the strongest of battledomers. He was also presented in the middle of a plot, signifying that he was not considered the final antagonist but rather a monster in need of rescue later down the line. He did boast an impressive Wand of the Dark Faerie and Fan of Swords kit, however the rest of his items were relatively non threatening compared to some of the other names here. Despite all of this, Malum earns a place on this list due to his unique character design as a partially wraith-infected Neopet who was fearsome and identifiable enough to be considered the face of the plot. Honourable Mentions: Skeletal Warriors (Hannah and the Ice Caves): For being the grunts of the Hannah and the Ice Caves war, these opponents had a very unique and memorable design as ice-encased skeletons that were still very recognizably Neopets. Castle Defender (Champions of Meridell): One of Neopia’s greatest mysteries is the ghostly Defender who only appears in times where Meridell needs him most. Let’s be real, this is one of the coolest characters we’ve ever seen. He really deserves more credit, that’s some loyalty! Jeran (Champions of Meridell): On this list we’ve definitely given villains a disproportionate amount of credit, but we forget that many of these battles were part of two sided wars. So to some, Jeran may have been the opponent they were fighting! That being said, Jeran is one of Neopia’s most prominent heroes and an all-time-favourite for a reason. It felt wrong creating a list without crediting our true Champion of Meridell. Every opponent from Curse of Maraqua: Curse of Maraqua really deserves a big shoutout on this list for having such a diverse and well designed cast of opponents for both the Pirates and Maraquan sides of the war. All of the grunts, but particularly the warriors wearing Maractite and ALL of the pirates are fantastic looking, all truly unique and fearsome opponents that I hope we will one day see again in a callback. Special shoutout to Swordmaster Talek and Pirate Champion who have become prolific faces of this plot despite their non-boss status.
