Under The Sea: Literature of Maraqua

by sessduh

--------

A wise Maraquan Lutari once wrote, "The most essential and fundamental aspect of culture is the study of literature." Today we are exploring Maraquan literature! For Neopians who don't venture out much, Maraqua is the ocean floor land that sits to the East of Meridell and North of Mystery Island. The land is endlessly fascinating: full of mystery, danger, beauty, and inspiration. Just as the wet realm is enchanting, so is its writings! Maraquan literature is a broad subject, encompassing all written works available in Maraqua and the waters beyond. A popular theme of Maraqua's literature is nautical fiction, a genre of writings with a setting on or near the sea. This land's text focuses on the Neopian relationship to the water and highlights Maraqua's culture in these environments. Detailed below are some selections of wonderful writings revolving the domain of Maraqua and its immense vastness. These books have been greatly appreciated by readers across Neopia and are a must-read for those with an interest in Maraqua and marine life!

     Secrets of Maraqua

Said to have come from the royal library in Maraqua, this book is one of the rarest in all Neopia. First spotted in Y7 following the war between the Pirate Crew and the Maraquan Army, this book has scarcely been seen in shops or up for trade or auction in years, and when it was spotted it was selling north of 700,000,000NP. Since it's so rare, we here at the Neopian Times have yet to get our hands on it, so if you do manage to add it to your collection we would love it if you'd share it with your friendly neighbourhood NT reporters. We (along with the rest of Neopia) would sure love to know what precious knowledge it holds.

     Something Fishy

There was something very wrong with that statue in Maraqua and Friedel just had to find out what… Action, adventure, suspense, a giant fishtail poking out of it: this book has everything! When Friedel sees that the Maraquan statue seems to have moved overnight, no one will answer her questions, so she sets off on an adventure to get to the bottom of this. Who (or what) moved the statue, and why? But the mysterious activity runs deeper than Friedel realizes. Pick this one up and you won't be able to put it down!

     A Maraquan Menu

Food feeds the soul. Across all cultures, we all eat food, and beyond nourishing our bodies it nourishes our spirits. One of the best ways to experience other cultures and better know our fellow Neopians is to experience their food. Pick up A Maraquan Menu to find a selection of traditional Maraquan dishes, ranging from novice-level dishes like spicy radish salad or stramberry sausages, to more intricate cuisines like a star pie or honeyed horn of plenty that will not only broaden your tastes but also expand your expertise in the kitchen. If you're looking to liven up your weekly dinner rotation, test your cooking abilities, and connect more deeply with your Maraquan friends, you can't miss this recipe book.

     Deep Sea Explorations

If you've ever wondered what it's like to swim among the ruins of Maraqua, gliding through the deep waters amidst crumbled columns and sweeping seatangle, this book is for you. Told from the perspective of Geraldine, a young red Koi adventuring far from home, this page-turner will captivate you with its vivid imagery. Geraldine's luscious description paints a picture of Maraqua you won't find in any other work, keeping you hooked from beginning to end. The only downside of this work is there's no sequel and you're going to seriously want one once you dive into this world.

     Maraquan Study Guide

Have you ever wanted to learn the intricacies of Maraqua but didn't know where to start? This study guide is perfect for the studious Neopian! It features a customizable plan to fit your unique study schedule (it takes into account restocking breaks), two full practice tests with guided answer explanations, 300+ total practice and example questions, and concise coverage of all topics, including review items. My favourite section was the economics section that detailed the importance of Maraqua's natural resource- maracite!

     Monsters of the Deep

Colossal arkmites, the dreaded Chasm beast, and giant marafins! Monsters of the Deep is packed with fascinating information about the biggest, fiercest, and strangest creatures that live in Maraqua's oceans. Dive down to the watery depths and encounter the ten strangest creatures living in Maraqua! How big is a giant arkmite? What is a lellefisk? How do Maraquan creatures find food when it’s so dark down there? Find out the answers to these questions and more as the authors track the facts.

     Quiguki Mermaid Tales

Answer the enchanting siren call of the quiguki mermaid with this comprehensive, lavishly illustrated and intricately designed one-of-a-kind lifestyle compendium from the editor in chief of Faerie Magazine and author of The Faerie Handbook. Beautiful, mysterious, and potentially dangerous, the quiguki mermaid is a pop culture icon whose roots date back to ancient sea goddesses and Altador mythology. Quiguki Mermaid Tales is packed with lore, legends, facts and trivia, and beautiful illustrations. The book includes profiles of modern quiguki mermaids, tail makers, mermaid hangouts, and visits quiguki mermaid attractions.

     Maraquan Faerie Tales

Waterlogged or not, priced at under 15 NP there's no good reason not to add a copy of Maraquan Faerie Tales to your library. Inspired by the Maraqua of yesteryear, before it was destroyed by pirates, these faerie tales are suited for Neopians young and old. Magic and enchantments, a rainbow vortex swirling perpetually out of reach, and Maraqua's very own bubbling pit are subjects of these fantastic fables. Turn the page and submerge yourself in a world of jewel-encrusted coral and genies inside sea-shells.

     Guide to Maraquan Krawks

If you've ever wondered how to live with and care for a Maraquan Krawk, this intensive guide is the book for you. Maraquan Krawks can be moody and temperamental, and while they may not let you know it their emotions are fragile. Beneath their scaly exteriors, these lovely Neopians are soft and sensitive, and this guide details everything you need to know about their needs and considerations so you can live together in harmony. Some of the tips and reminders in this book are no surprise - like be careful not to mistake them for or compare them to Maraquan Draiks - but if you've ever found yourself in a turbulent situation with a Maraquan Krawk you'll want to see what else this book has to say.

     Maraquan Pop-Up Book

Guaranteed to keep your younguns engaged as you teach them the history and culture of Maraqua, this book is a must-have for your home libraries. However, currently trading around 170,000 NP, this book isn't a budget pick. The budgeting and selling old items will all be worth it when you turn the pages and hear your little ones' coos of excitement. Fifty-one full-colour pop-up pages depicting the chronicle of this rich-historied land will captivate their minds, winning you quiet time at home and brownie points with their teachers. Rumour has it there are even a few copies floating around with a fifty-second page, though we here at the Neopian Times report facts, not rumours. Still, if you come upon one of those copies, we'd err, really love to see it.

     Aisha Sea Life

As a complement to the wonderful works of Maraquan fiction we've showcased here, Aisha Sea Life deserves a spot on your shelf. A remarkable autobiography, Aisha Sea Life was written by a Maraquan Aisha who wanted to share her underwater experiences with Neopians worldwide. Learn about Maraquan education and recreation, and get a unique perspective on the invasion of Maraqua by Captain Scarblade. Read about the unique challenges and rewards of undersea life and we guarantee it'll add some colour to the way you view your own life.

     ***

As you can see, there are so very many Maraquan literature books in Neopia. Each book has a special meaning or use. I encourage you to check out one of the listed books the next time you visit your closest Neolibrary and I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did. This wraps it up for now! Good evening, goodbye, and have a happy Friday Neopia!
