More Gross Foods That Aren't as Gross as You Think by yzhen_121993
--------
Hello! After a long time, we’re back with part 2 of maligned “gross” foods. Yes, there are more! If you found yourself craving more of the like after reading our previous article, then look no further than this one. We’ve lined up another menu of delectable treats for the not-particular palate. Tempura-Fried Worms
The inclusion of worms on this list is probably because of a book we read as children. Think worms sound gross? Fry them up, and they won’t look any different from fried chicken, except maybe a bit stringier. If you’re doubtful, dip this dish in some sauce, and you’ll soon forget what you’re actually eating! Grub Waffles
Mmm, waffles. As the description says, you can add extra syrup to drown out the taste of the grubs. Or, if the grubs really bother you, you may remove them and eat just the waffles on their own. Think of all the protein you’d miss out on, though! Pterducken
Have you ever wondered what a Pteri tastes like? Now’s your chance to find out. (But don’t tell your pets, unless they’re the carnivorous type!) This is like the turducken some people eat during the holidays. Turkey? Duck? Why not both? A similar question can be asked here: duck? Pteri? Why not both? Anchovy Loaf
All right, for this one, you probably have to like both anchovies and bread. But if you do, this is an easy way to have both your protein and carbohydrates for the day. And with the sandwich filling already baked into the dish, it won’t be completely dry and tasteless. Guaranteed fresh! Bean Yogurt Surprise
You say gross, we say healthy! It’s not specified whether this is a sweet yogurt or a sour one (maybe that’s the “surprise”?), but either way, when people these days are putting nuts and berries in their yogurt, beans aren’t too much of a stretch, are they? It could unexpectedly be tasty. Blend them together with the included spoon for even distribution of flavour. Millennia Egg
What’s the difference between a century and a millennium, eh? Just like some beverages and people, age only enriches the quality of this food. Don't believe us? Add soy sauce, and you’ll see what we mean. This is a beloved Shenkuuvian delicacy, and they would be much offended by its categorisation as a “gross” food. Wasp Biscuits
Another treat originating from Shenkuu, this food shouldn’t be dismissed merely because of the mildly deterrent prospect of ingesting insects. Having eaten cricket flour brownies before, we can assure you that you’ll forget what it’s made of as soon as you take a bite--the taste is really not obvious. Okay, so the appearance might be a giveaway, but don’t think about it too much and it’ll be fine. Shrimp Cupcake
Ah, how refreshing to find a savoury dessert. If you’re a seafood fan like us, you’ll be salivating at the thought of the single shrimp lying on top of this small baked good. Unusual sight, to be sure, but gross? We think not! Shrimp can actually be kind of bland, but add frosting and cake underneath, and you’ll change your tune. Pumpkin Gut Cookies
Now maybe the name isn't the most appetising, but who doesn't love cookies? This could be a great holiday snack celebrating Halloween. We like to imagine the guts as simply just pumpkin-flavoured icing spewing from its mouth, yum! So when all the Neopians come knocking on your door, treat them to this spookily wonderful treat! Cheesy Potato Stuffed Doughnut
Baked potatoes and cheese on its own is already a tasty dish, but this looks even better. The large quantity of cheese is mouthwatering, and using a freshly made doughnut as some sort of sandwich sounds amazing. There's already a huge variety of things put on doughnuts, so why not cheese and potatoes? This is something we would gladly try out. Bacon and Eggs Ice Cream
The classic traditional breakfast in an easy-to-eat ice cream form. Sign us up! This looks like a ton of fun to prepare, and it would be a fun way to eat your breakfast. Think of all the flavours of ice cream you could use for this. Maple-flavoured ice cream bacon, for example, would be a great way to start your day. Chocolate Taco
During our research, we found a lot of meat and chocolate food items, but the ingredients in the taco seemed the most interesting to us. Bacon goes well with the sweetness of chocolate, and the intensity of the sour cream paired with the chocolate sounds very delicious. Add in some whipped cream, and you have a unique dinner/dessert combo! Corn and Jelly Ball
Sure, corn and jelly together is a very weird combination, but the more we thought about it, the less strange it seems. Jelly on its own doesn't have a strong flavour, and looking over the huge amounts of jelly foods in Neopia, Lime Jelly is actually a pretty great option to go with corn. There are certainly worse flavours out there to pair it with *cough* Dung and Fish Jelly *cough*. Strawberry Ice Cream with Balsamic Vinegar Syrup
Interestingly, this is a dessert many people already enjoy, so we're surprised to see this on the gross foods list. Balsamic and strawberry surprisingly go great together. The vinegar is very subtle, and it adds so much to the sweetness of the strawberries. This is one dessert we would actively seek out to make for a very cool, summertime treat! Buttered Watermelon
Perhaps this isn't the healthiest way to eat your fruit, but there's no denying butter tastes great. The sweetness of the watermelon mixed with the creamy butter is like a nice, refreshing dessert, and with no added sugar! As long as there aren't too many seeds to pick out, it sounds like something we would certainly enjoy eating! Cheese Covered Caramel Apple
This sounds like something you would see at a carnival to try out. Cheese and apples already go well together, and adding just a bit of caramel just adds more of the sweetness to it. It's hard to see why this would be considered a gross food. Peanut Butter and Pickles
Now hear us out! We were initially sceptical at first, but it does come together nicely. The combination of sweet, salty, and sour, with the smoothness and crunch of the pickle, makes for a wonderful pairing. The best part is it takes less than a minute to make! If you're feeling rather adventurous or bored one day, why not give this a shot? That concludes this second edition of not-so-gross Gross Foods. As you travel around Neopia, keep an open mind and an open stomach. Your next favourite food could be a surprise waiting around the corner.
