--------
It’s that time again, a huge issue of the Neopian Times! With this edition being issue number 900, I wanted to write a guide on the NINE best ways to stay healthy while you are travelling around Neopia. It is peak cold and flu season in much of Neopia, and you never know when your pet will fall ill with Sneezles or Fuzzitus…or even worse, something like Floppy Tongue! There are plenty of ways to stop the spread of things like the NeoFlu and other illnesses, and ways to prevent them altogether. It is important if your pet does get sick to treat them right away, a healthy pet is a happy pet. You wouldn’t want them reading the 900th issue of the Neopian Times with a sick belly and sore throat, now would you? So what are the best ways to keep from getting a disease or illness while making your way around the world? 1) Wash and Sanitize Your Hands (and Paws) Frequently! One of the most important things you can do is keep clean hands and paws. This is important because throughout the day, you touch lots of things! Like the newest edition of the Neopian Times when you are picking it up at the corner store, or the doorknobs and handles and toilet flushers that you come across all day. Then you use those SAME HANDS to put food into your mouth!! Yuck. This is the fastest way for germs to spread. May I recommend the Jinjah Soap, a Jinjah-shaped bar with a fantastic gingerbread cookie scent that will inspire you to wash frequently? For pets with more sensitive skin, you can use the Hypoallergenic Hand Soap so you can be sure not to cause any irritation. If you are out and about and a sink or soap isn’t readily available, you can always carry a container of Usukicon Y12 Hand Sanitizer with you! This will kill 99.9% of all germs and bacteria. 2) Minimize Your Travel As you run all around Neopia you are bound to run into random events. Sometimes they are amazing and will give you a cool paint brush or a chunk of money you can add to your bank account, while other times a creepy Kadoatie will steal 5,000 NP from you. Random events aren’t limited to just that though, they can also spread disease and make your pet very ill. It is important for staying healthy to limit your travel to only what is necessary. 3) Be Careful What You Eat Some foods will trigger a nasty reaction in your pet and make them very ill. Some of these foods may be delicious, but is it really worth the risk of feeling so bad? The Ferocious Negg is one of them, and you never know what disease it might bring along with it. Ummagines are known for not sitting will in a lot of pets’ stomachs, and so you can imagine that the Fizzy Ummagine Potion may give them quite a bloated belly. Poisonous Jelly is obviously poisonous, why would you ever give it to your pet? But if you do, they might come down with a rough case of NeoMonia. Bluehamberry Burgers tend to cause a bizarre allergic reaction that will trigger Blurred Vision, so best to avoid this even if it is an old favourite of yours. 4) Be Proactive In Healing Your pet might get sick and you may not even realize. Check the Quick Ref page to see if there is something up with one of your pets. Even if there isn’t, it never hurts to take frequent dips in the Healing Springs. The faeries over there know what they are doing and the magical springs hold a lot of healing power, for both health points and wellness. You may even end up with some healing potions you can stockpile for later. Speaking of… 5) Stock Up On Essential Medicines It’s best to always get medication ahead of time! You don’t want to be running out to store while you are super sick and possibly spreading the germs around to other people. Get some Cooling Ointment, Aching Lotion, Black Cherry Tea, Flat-U-Less Tablets, and anything else you can think of to stock your bathroom cabinets. This way you will be ready at the first onset of illness and lower the risk of contaminating others. This will also make you much more comfortable quickly after falling ill. 6) Visit The NeoHospital To See What You Need The NeoHospital is a great resource with lots of amazing doctors who have done some incredible research. They know exactly what medications will heal which ailments and are there to help you out. If you do fall ill and aren’t sure exactly what the cure is, head over there and they will be able to tell you. The highly trained staff also has excellent bedside manner and are super polite. 7) Always Get A Good Night’s Rest Proper sleep is really important to good health. It strengthens your immune system which helps your body better off fighting disease. May I recommend a good pillow, like the Cloud Pillow Set? It will give you a nice, soft surface to rest your head on. I don’t recommend the Cheese Pillow however, especially if you are a warm sleeper. No one likes waking up to cheese melted to the side of their face, yuck. The Antique Four Poster Bed also offers a comfortable mattress and sheet set that you can tuck into, don’t limit yourself to just nice pillows! This is also a comfy place to read the 900th issue of the Neopian Times, or to spend some time recovering if you do end up sick. 8) Eat Your Veggies I already talked a little bit above about avoiding the wrong foods, but it is also important to make sure you are getting the RIGHT foods. Lots of Carrots and Strawberries, fresh fruit and vegetables boost your vitamins and fight disease. Have a glass of Orange Juice with your breakfast every morning for a high dose of vitamin C! 9) Read The Neopian Times! The Neopian Times is Neopets' most up to date news source, and it is a good idea to keep up with it to follow along with any of the latest medical breakthroughs or illnesses spreading. Maybe a doctor will submit his research on new medicines coming out, or there will be reports of a Bloated Belly breakout at a new restaurant in Maraqua. Every issue of the Neopian Times could hold the key to your future health, just like the 900th issue holds this article to help keep you healthy!
