A Scarab's Guide to Travelling Neopia

by nnpower888

--------

Many Neopians have written about travelling throughout Neopia, and you can find many brochures, guides, and books about all the lands in Neopia. However, what about from a Scarab’s point of view? Every day many Neopets come to Qasala to drop yet another Scarab into the Qasalan Expellibox, sending them into tubes that would end up in different Neopia land. We recommend every Scarab to not spread your wings during this process, as the high speed could injure your pretty, shiny, delicate wings!

Let’s start with Qasala, where most of the Scarabs are still living! Well, Qasala is certainly not a bad place to live for a Scarab! The weather is hot and dry, perfect for a swarm of Scarab! Qasalans, in general, are tired of Scarabs, which was why they invited every Neopian to locate one and drop them into the tubes in the first place! Hiding inside pottery, walls, and plants is recommended for Scarabs who enjoy living in Qasala.

Should a Scarab land in Sahkmet, it is not much different than Qasala. The weather is the same, and the Neopians would bring a captured Scarab to Qasala for a quick drop. This city is just a little more crowded and busier than Qasala. Scarabs who enjoy the food here should try to find a place to hide. A word of advice, just avoid nibbling on fruits when the shopkeeper is not talking to a customer.

Altador might be just over the mountains, but it has a different kind of weather. It has a decent amount of sun and some occasional clouds, perfect for Scarabs that want a nice balance of sun and shade. The coastal city does make the wind a bit salty, so landward drift could affect taste buds when chewing on olives or Alatadorian pastries. There’s plenty of tall buildings and hiding places to provide shade and hideout. For Scarabs that did not enjoy Altador, feel free to just fly over the mountains and the Lost Desert will soon appear over the horizon.

Haunted Woods is alright for a Scarab who enjoys a lack of sun and dense foliage. Scarabs who like spooky or dreary atmospheres would find this place perfect! Just flutter your beautiful Scarab wings in an irregular pattern, and anyone can fit with the eerie ghosts moaning or the Esophagus groaning! Please keep an eye out for witches though, for they will turn any unsuspecting Scarab into an ugly petpet! There’s plenty of abandoned, stone buildings to rest for the night. Enjoy a sugary Spooky Doughnut, but don’t eat Spooky Donuts!

Faerieland is east of Haunted Woods, and it is not a recommended place to stay. Faeries basically see Scarab as pests. For any injured or sick Scarab, try sneaking for a quick dip in Healing Spring. The faerie dust and magic in here is not worth it. Escaped Scarabs have reported of Fire Faeries sending fireballs, Light Faeries blinding to cause vision impairment leading to Scarabs bumping into trees, Water Faeries trapping a Scarab in bubbles and float them away, Air Faeries shooing Scarabs with high-speed gusts of wind, and Dark Faeries temporarily poisoning Scarabs. Do not ever eat anything a Dark Faerie offers. Do not stay in Faerieland!

Brightvale is a little north of Faerieland and Haunted Woods, but it’s nothing exciting. The weather is just balanced, and the fruits might be juicier than Lost Desert’s fruits. Even If you like the smell of scrolls, they are no different than the scrolls in Lost Desert. There is absolutely no need to travel that far to sniff scrolls! There’s some noisy disturbance with Brightvale citizens talking about books, topics in depths, or misfiring spells. Scarabs who enjoy heated discussion about efficient apothecary skills, or random topics like Brightvale philosophy, this is the place to stay.

Terror Mountain is as far north as anyone can go on Neopia! You can try to hide inside any of the buildings here, but avoid the Snowager’s Cavern. For food, everything tastes cold and wet, they’re all the same, sometimes with a little hint of flavour. There are slushies in Happy Valley, but better Terror Mountain foods are at the top of the mountain. The steep flight, the endless snow, cold and dry air is not worth the trouble to go on top just for food. Any Scarab brave enough to hitchhike inside Neopians’ clothes pockets or backpack has a chance to reach the Super Happy Icy Snow Fun Shop for decent Terror Mountain food. Alternatively, find a way to Tyrannia for a more comfortable travel experience.

The Tyrannia Jungle is comfortable with plenty of leaves and fruits and berries to chew on, and there are plenty of hiding spaces to live in. The Neopians here might look at a Scarab funny, but they aren’t threatening. At the Tyrannian Plateau, there’s the Giant Omelette to feast on. If the Omelette is not very egg-citing, there’s always plenty of something-saurus meat for replenishment! Just avoid the Obelisk part where Neopians from all over Neopia come to battle, and avoid the crazy fans by the Concert Hall. Getting trampled by a crowd is not fun.

Maraqua is a bad place to land in. Every bite of food leaves a salty taste. Scarabs who landed here should try to look for Jubble Bubble, or any fast-moving bubbles, to use the momentum to float out of Maraqua. The Scarabs do not recommend this place a hundred percent.

Virtupets Space Station is not a bad place to live in, for Scarabs who won’t mind basically stuck here forever. Thankfully, Dr. Sloth turned on the gravity on this space station, so there won’t be any zero-gravity collisions with robots or Grundos. The Grundos and robots are generally friendly and may find Scarabs shiny. Space Station food comes in intergalactic food or dehydrated packaged food variety. Don’t worry about Dr. Sloth blasting a Scarab on sight though, he is likely too busy trying to invade Neopia or occupied by designing his fan club merchandise. Just stay out of Lever of Doom, rumours said they’re donation for Dr. Sloth to rebuild spaceships that were destroyed.

Kreludor… has nothing interesting. They have tastier food than Virtupets Space, and also friendly Grundos living their lives. There’s a mining operation going on every day, which can be noisy. Scarabs who enjoy relative boredom and peace could call this place home. The lowered gravitation is not that bad to fly in, just be careful not to steer off into outer space.

There are other places like Meridell, Krawk Island, Mystery Island, Roo Island, Kiko Lake, and Neopia Central that are not mentioned. However, Neopia Central, Roo Island, and Kiko Lake are easier to visit if a Scarab travels north of Haunted Woods, or west or northwest of Brightvale, or south of Terror Mountain. Since these places aren’t connected by the Qasalan Expellibox tubes, the mystery is open for exploration. Why not find out more from listening to other petpets, or eavesdropping from Neopian? Sometimes a Draik would announce themselves flying over to Mystery Island, perhaps try to catch a ride with one or follow one?
