The Neopian Light Source, Universe and Everything! by ilumed
--------
So, a recent article written by aerita has been published concerning the light
source of Neopia. I’m sure all of the readers of this article pondered the question,
but did anybody try to find an answer?
Well, I have no idea if they did or not; I can only speak for myself. I did
attempt to find an answer to this wondrous question and my results will follow.
The research was actually quite simple, as you’ll see, but it also leaves a
few other questions…
In the Lost Desert, there is a small river. If we look at the map of (this
side of) Neopia, we see that the river comes from the sea, or goes to the sea.
From looking at the river itself, we cannot tell which end is which. But on
the horizon we can clearly see the sun, or a brightly lit orb, which for ease
I will call a sun). That’s right, the sun. A light source. A bright star etc.
etc. This either tells us that the sun is over the ocean, or is round the other
side of the world, behind that mountainous wall. If the sun was over the ocean,
we would surely see it from our map, or at least more evidence of it. Which
let’s us conclude that it is behind Neopia.
If we venture to Tyrannia, we can see in the background of the jungle there
is clearly a setting sun, which is constantly setting. If there was no sun,
we would not be able to clearly see a sun, would we? Didn’t think so. You may
be wondering why you can see the sun from the jungle but not from the plateau;
this is simply because the sign for the concert hall is covering it, or because
the volcanoes in the background are helping our confusion.
On our moon, Kreludor, we can see Neopia is ‘glowing’. This indicates either
Neopia is a light source itself, or that there is a sun behind it. The latter
is much more believable, because the previous findings are well-written enough
to believe, and the logic is also in there, somewhere.
If we put these three amazingly excellent facts together, we can work out that
there is a light source behind this side of Neopia. You can see both halves
of it at the extreme ends of Neopia (Tyrannia and the Lost Desert). Neopia’s
only moon receives light from the sun behind Neopia, which is why it is brightly
lit when we look at it. So, with these little bit of knowledge, this problem
has been solved, right?
Wrong. If we take our beloved neopets to Meridell, we are confronted with another
strange occurrence. There is a sun on the horizon. Uh-oh. From our assumption
before, this shouldn’t be the case. Meridell is in the middle of Neopia; if
there was a sun behind our side of the world, then you wouldn’t be able to see
it from Meridell. This can only mean one thing, there are two suns. One behind
our map of Neopia, and the other way above the map, that even the space station
has difficulty seeing it. Unless these are design faults that were made without
realisation (which I’m sure we all highly doubt), there is more than one light
source. Of course, these ‘suns’ could be just fakes, trying to keep Neopians
everywhere happy and awake.
You may have noticed how Neopia never gets dark, the sun(s), when pointed out,
never set, and we always have nice things to look at. If the sun was behind
Neopia, this side would be cast in darkness, so maybe there is a sun on both
sides. One keeping the unknown (to us) side in splendorous light, and the other
letting us move around without walking through the bamboo walls of our neohomes
and accidentally buying something from the Faerie Queen’s Hidden Tower. I believe
that I have shown sufficient proof to be able to say that there ARE two suns.
I’m sure many other Neopians, who might study physics, the universe and everything,
might have some problems with this theory, but it would be interesting if they
could find other theories that are as near to being realistic as the few I have
mentioned in this article.
Yet, even as I write this article, I am still able to put in more and more
theories about our light. Here is a relatively simple theory about the sun(s)
we can see. Where we can see a sun in the background of certain lands, such
as Tyrannia, the Lost Desert and Meridell, we can visit it at any time through
the day and it won’t have moved. (Notice that I didn’t say night; it isn’t often
we experience such unknown things.) The simple explanation I have to deal with
this is that our Neopian world does NOT spin. Crazy you might say (you probably
won’t, but still, you might…), but there is no evidence of such activity. This
means that the suns (from now on, I think we can say there is more than one)
and Neopia, and the moon, the space station, EVERYTHING, has fixed places.
Now, our planet Earth spins and orbits the Sun. In this totally different and
strange galaxy, gravity is the key to such movements. Neopia must have gravity;
otherwise it would take a lot of glue and sticky feet to stay attached to this
planet (however, this explains Faerieland’s position). The lack of glue in the
shops might also help this theory, but we’ll ignore this for now. So if there
is gravity, why does the moon stand still, leaving Neopia unorbitted? And why
does Neopia not move around the sun?
Those paying attention will have noticed I said sun, singular. If there were
two suns, Neopia wouldn’t be able to orbit both, unless it did a cool figure
of eight pattern, but it doesn’t. If it doesn’t orbit the suns, logic dictates
that it should move away or stay still, this is why we Neopians live in such
an uncomplicated environment!
Such questions should be asked and answered by the space station, but unfortunately
they are too busy, dealing with other, unreleased and more important issues.
So I tried my best to cover for them and answer my own questions to my best
ability.
