Jelly Blobs of Success?!

Please Note: There is no world of chocolate, jelly, candy, or any edible foods out there. Just your good old Neopia and all the other non-food worlds out there. :) I am only writing this guide for those who may think there is an edible world out there. It's all a myth.

Hey there, Neopian Times Lurkers! You have just stumbled across a helpful guide on how to play the game called Jelly Blobs Of Doom. You play as a small jelly Chomby surrounded by different shades and sizes of jelly. The objective of the game is fairly simple: Eat the jellies to grow big enough to eat every size. To accomplish this so-called "simple objective", eat the blobs of jelly that are your size in order to grow bigger. The bigger you get, the bigger blobs of jelly, or jellies, you can eat. Still sound simple to you? I would sure hope so...

How to Play:

For starters, the game does take a while to play. Therefore it requires a lot of patience. As stated before, the objective of the game is to eat jellies of your size and eventually be big enough to eat all sizes of jellies. You start out very, very small and are limited to the size of jelly you can eat. So, you start off eating the super small blobs of jelly that float across your screen in any direction (horizontally and vertically [top to bottom]). To get to these blobs of jelly, you must avoid the bigger jellies or they will suck you in and you will have to start all over again. Now, being small has its pros and cons. The pros are: You are able to dodge the bigger jellies easier and you are a lot faster. The cons are: You are only able to eat small jellies and those do not give you very many points.

Later on, after eating a few jellies, you notice that you are bigger than when you first started out. Great! That is a good thing and a bad thing. You will learn that every size has its pros and cons. As you get bigger, you are allowed to eat bigger blobs of jelly. The bigger the jelly, the more points you will get. Scoring I will discuss later on. Now, as you may have noticed, the bigger you get, the harder it is to dodge the bigger blobs of jelly. Why is this you ask? Well, there is a simple explanation to this: The bigger you are, the slower you move. The slower you move, the harder it is to dodge the blobs of jelly (yes, I know you've heard this a lot already, but it is a crucial part of the game so I am doing this so it sticks in your smart brains). Also, you are much bigger than the size you started out as, so you are more vulnerable to getting sucked in by the bigger blobs of jelly. And watch out for your tail. There have been a few times when I was playing and I thought I was safe from the big blobs, come to find out the tip of my tail was in its trail and I got sucked in and had to restart.

Like being small, being big has its pros and cons as well. As stated before, the pros to being big are: You are able to eat bigger jelly blobs, gain more points, and the bigger you get, the bigger jellies you are able to eat. In some circumstances you can "eat your way to safety." This means when there are tons of jelly blobs flying at you and you don't think you can survive this huge onslaught of jellies, think again! Depending on your size, you may be able to eat most of those jellies flying at you in all directions, ensuring you more points and the ability to stay in the game longer and bigger. Sounds fun, doesn't it? It gets quite intense the bigger you are. The cons of this are: You are a lot bigger so it is harder to dodge those super big ones (like the yellow and medium-dark orange ones [they are the 1st and 2nd biggest jellies you can eat]), and you are a lot slower, making it harder to move around and avoid those blobs of jellies that you cannot eat quite yet.

My personal opinion on this is: It is way better to be bigger (obviously it's the object of the game and there is no way to avoid it) but it is best to take it slow. You don't want to try and get big super fast because then you're just being careless and you wont get very far. You need to take it slow and be very careful. It's like the tortoise and the hare. "Slow and steady wins the race!" Now that you get the idea on how to play, let's move on to another topic!

Random Events:

The more you play this, the better you get; obvious statement, don't you think? Someday, somewhere among your adventures in this game you will stumble across something huge. At some random time during one of your games at a completely random day, month, time, whatever, a giant blue blob of jelly will happily (I say this because of its size and power) float across your screen. Doesn't sound too bad, huh? Think again! This jelly happens to be the size of the entire game screen. IF you happen to be lucky, it will appear while you're trying to grab a jelly in one of the four corners of the game screen and it misses you. Now, I am not saying it doesn't hit the four corners of the screen because its position varies every time and I haven't had enough data and encounters to pinpoint its main positions.

Some say there is a way to trigger the blob and make it appear. However, I have not found a way to prove that. Then again, why would I, or anyone else for that matter? If you are having a very good, successful game, why would you want to trigger such a huge, monstrous jelly and have it suck you in and ruin your score? I know I wouldn't! So be very aware of this colossal jelly and try to avoid it at all costs. Lucky for you it rarely appears.

Scoring:

Every size of jelly gives you a different amount of points. The super small jellies only give about 4-7 points max (this is just an estimate but it is fairly accurate). The bigger the jelly, the more points you are going to earn. This is the main reason why you want to become bigger instead of staying small just because you like how fast he can travel across the screen! So to make this very simple and easy to understand: the bigger the jelly, the more points. There is no exact amount that a jelly gives you because it's different every game. Although, each jelly has its own point range so you can get a sense of how many points certain jellies may give you.

Helpful Tips:

As a fellow Jelly Blob-er I have discovered some helpful tips that may help you have a more successful game. As most of you know, you start out quite small and must work your way up to the big jellies. You need to take your time on this in order to get a very nice score. Be very aware and watch for the jellies coming in every direction. You'll need to act fast and smart quite a few times throughout the game, meaning you will need to avoid huge jellies coming at you from all sides. To avoid this, you need to quickly find an open path in between the jellies (there always is one) and escape, watching out for the other passing blobs on the other side of the path (this is the smart part of the whole thing). It can get very tricky, which is why you need to act fast.

One thing that has always helped me is staying in the middle of the screen. It allows me to escape in any direction to avoid the bigger blobs of jelly. After I leave the center, either to go eat a jelly or to avoid them, I always make my way back to the center carefully. For other people, this may be a trap for disaster, but it has worked very well for me. One of the main reasons why I suggest staying in the middle is because the jellies can come from any part of the screen (top and bottom) so it would be unwise to stand next to the sides and corners. That just increases your chances of being hit and losing the game. Now if you're huge, big enough to eat any jelly (not including the giant, rare blue one), then stand wherever you please, but I'd still be careful.

Neopoints and a Trophy:

Earning neopoints in this game can be easy or hard. It really depends on how well you do in the game and how patient you are. As I have said before, this game takes a lot of patience because it isn't always easy to get the blobs of jelly that are your size. If you are looking to earn an easy 1,000 NP then you'll need to look at the neopoint ratio. As of right now, the ratio is 2.48 so you'll need to score 404 or higher to get 1,000 NP.

Earning a trophy is a totally different story. And in this game, it's not easy if you haven't played it a lot. My advice would be to play it at the beginning of each month when the scores reset and the expectations aren't so high. If you decide to go for a trophy just randomly one day sometime during the month, you will be expected to score high. It's normal to see scores up to 8-10,000 points during the middle and end of the month. To beat those scores, you're going to need to allow yourself a few hours (I'd say no more than 3 or 4 because you don't know how lucky you will be at the start with the small blobs of jelly).

And so, in the end, Jelly Blobs of Doom is a super fun game and it definitely keeps you on edge every second you're alive. It's also a great challenge for those of you who like a nice challenge. Best of all, those of you who wait for Plushie Tycoon updates or that insanely long wheel in Tyrannia (I suggest opening another window if you ever decide to do this), or any other long waiting process thing you do, this game is an excellent time killer. Overall, it has a nice trophy and it's not hard to earn 1,000 NP, so good luck to all of you!
