The Next Chapter: A Guide to Your Permanent Pet

by lyrinks

--------

In the era of pet trading, you may have scoped out the Neopian Pound Neoboard and come across the phrase permanent pet. A permanent pet is a Neopet that the user plans to keep and not trade again. In fact, most of pet trading happens so people can achieve their permanent pets. Maybe your permanent pet is a specific color and species combination. Maybe it’s a specific name. Or, perhaps it’s a highly sought after unconverted Neopet from the pre-NC Mall days. Many people have achieved their permanent pets, while others are still working toward their pet goals. Regardless of where you are in your permanent pet journey, here are some tips you can follow once you’ve achieved your permanent pet to make sure you’re the best owner you can be.

Give your pet a personality: Despite popular belief, fleshing out your pet’s personality is not just for the artist and the roleplayers of Neopia. On the contrary, this could be a really great exercise for you to get to know your Neopet better. A good way to begin this process is to take a look at how your Neopet would respond to the questions that were asked at its creation. What does your Neopet like to do? Where does it live? How are they around others? While you can’t change the basics of their personality, you can justify them. Your Neopet would smile sweetly when meeting another Neopet because it’s super friendly and likes to make new friends. Or, your Neopet lives in the sea because your ultimate goal is to paint it Maraquan (if its not already). This personality fleshing will do a few things for you: it will allow you to not only get to know your Neopet but to make sure your permanent pet is unlike any other pet in Neopia. After all, they should be one of a kind because they’re on your account!

A matching petpet & petpetpet: Since your pet is going to be with you for the rest of your time in Neopia (which will hopefully be a very, very long time!), you may want to make sure that they don’t get lonely when you aren’t around. This is especially important if this pet is the only pet on your account. However, giving your pet a matching petpet and petpetpet can be the perfect solution! Now, there’s a few different ways to match a pet to a petpet: you can match them by Neopian land—if your pet is painted Island, it may not be a bad idea to see what the Mystery Island petpet shop is selling. You can match them by type—have you ever noticed how similar the Lupe and the Doglefox are? Or, say you have a Peophin, they may do great with another aquatic petpet. You can match them by color—your faerie pet may want its petpet to also be painted faerie, that way they can both fly high together! Additionally, you can match them by, you guessed it, personality: does your petpet love eating the berries found in Meridell? Know which petpet loves eating the berries in Meridell? The Turmac! Partner your pet with a petpet that matches who they are and they’ll be sure to be happy no matter what! Furthermore, you may want to consider the benefits of matching them with a petpetpet. A petpetpet will ensure that your pet has another playmate for those fun games of hide and seek.

Customize your pet: For some, customizing is a way of life. For others, it’s just a quick and fun activity. Regardless of how you feel about customizing your Neopet, you may want to consider giving them some fancy clothes or an appropriate background. Can your Neopet fly? Maybe a cloud background is exactly what your pet needs to be able to show them in their natural habitat. Is your Neopet a fan of spooky stories? There are a handful of spooky backgrounds to choose from to make sure that your Neopet feels right at home in one of their favorite stories. Customizing, of course, goes beyond backgrounds. Clothes are a great way to show just how unique your pet really is! Already decided your pet likes reading detective stories? No problem! There are some great clothes for your pet to dress up in that will let them feel like they’re solving Neopia’s greatest mysteries. Taking a trip to the NC Mall on a weekend may be exactly what you and your Neopet need in order to solidify a bond! If the NC Mall isn’t exactly your thing, keep in mind that cross-painting may also be an option. Cross-painting allows your Neopet to wear the clothes of a specific paint brush color while being painted another color. This could also be a great way for you to show your Neopet’s personality. Cross-painting yoSur grey pet as a Royal pet may be not only just what their personality calls for, but a sure way for your pet to feel super special.

Eater, Reader, Contestant, or Battler: Now that you and your permanent pet have picked out a super awesome petpet and picked out a fitting customization, it may be beneficial to figure out what their favorite activity is. If your pet likes eating, it could be an awesome idea for the two of you to try all the great gourmet food that Neopia has to offer. If your pet is a reader, there are thousands of fantastic books for your pet to read. Okay, neither of those options appeal to you? Well, keep in mind that the Beauty Contest is always open to your pet! Let them flaunt their fabulous looks in a glamour photo that will be sure to guarantee them a first place trophy! …Oh, your tough pet isn’t really into the Beauty Content? No problem! Let them train in either Mystery or Krawk Island with the great Master Techo and Cap’n Threelegs, respectively. Of course, here’s the real truth: your pet doesn’t need to fit into one, single category! Let them try everything! After all, you two are going to be spending a lot of time together!

So, there you have it; some quick tips on how to proceed with your permanent pet. Of course, this is just the advice of one Neopian. Maybe you and your pet don’t fit into any of these categories. Maybe you fit into completely different categories that weren’t covered in this article! That’s completely cool! After all, its your time to bond with your permanent pet and make sure that you two can create a really special bond to make all your days in Neopia memorable!

Perfectly Posh Poogle Outfits
As Poogle Day approaches, many Neopians are at a loss about which wearables they should choose for their Poogles. Fear not, because there are several Poogle-specific outfits that would look fantastic on any Poogle. These clothing pieces can be purchased at the Clothing Shop in Neopia Central or by using the Shop Wizard. Here are my recommendations.

Altador Cup Players’ Favorite Gormball Player
Before Yooyuball and the Altador Cup there was Gormball and The Annual Gormball Championships! Though a Virtupets Space Station sport, many Altador Cup players would say that one of their inspirations was Gormball; even the famous Disco Ixi Altador Cup Commentator, Tobias Sigmir, originally wanted to be a Gormball Commentator.

Stuck
The first breath was the hardest. They call the last breath ‘the death rattle’, but the first after dying is more than that, worse than that. The shock of it is only half the trouble. It’s like a small fire, or some sort of explosion, igniting in your chest. I saw a ghostkerbomb go off once, with a piercing white fire. It felt the way that bomb had looked.
