A Comprehensive Guide To Turmac Roll

by carrieantonia

--------

Greetings, Neopian travelers! If you've ever visited the exquisite land of Meridell, you've probably heard of a popular game called Turmac Roll. But what exactly is this game, how can you play, and how can you win? If you aren't from Meridell, the numerous odd-looking berries and hazardous tree stumps can be a little bit intimidating. But they shouldn't have to be! As an avid Turmac Roll fan, I've compiled this comprehensive list of information and tips to help you enjoy Meridell's third-favourite pastime.*

(* Third only to Cheeseroller and Potato Counter. Meridell locals are a strange bunch.)

Part 1: What In The World Is A Turmac?

On sunny days in the lush green hills of Meridell, Turmacs thrive. These tiny olive-coloured petpets with splotches of yellow and purple can often be found happily rolling around in the grass. Their primary goal in life is to eat as many berries as they possibly can, in order to grow as large as they possibly can.

The most well-known example of a Turmac who has accomplished these goals is the Turmaculus. The Turmaculus has grown to a truly mammoth size, and now spends most of his days sleeping peacefully in the Meridell sun. If he awakens in a grumpy mood, he has been known to devour smaller petpets.

So beware - even a small Turmac has great potential to become fearsome!

Your goal in the game of Turmac Roll is to assist one of these delightful little creatures in picking up as many berries as he can whilst rolling through the landscape of Meridell and avoiding obstacles.

Part 2: Know Your Berries

As your Turmac rolls along, you will see a variety of strange-looking berries, each worth a different amount of points in the game. It's helpful to be able to identify what your Turmac is eating. But don't worry, none of them are harmful!

Sniddberry - This is a round blue berry covered in bright red spots. It is worth only one measly point.

Loveberry - Appropriately, this berry looks just like a red love heart. It is worth two points when your Turmac eats it.

Chiaberry - This cute crimson-colored berry quite resembles a Chia... well, if you hold it in the right light and squint a little bit, anyway. It is worth four points.

Conkerberry - This berry grows on the higher branches of bushes. It got its name from its tendency to fall and hit unsuspecting neopets on the head! The heavy conkerberry is a vile shade of green with brown stripes. It is worth eight points for your Turmac.

Voidberry - This berry is perfectly round, and looks just like the dark and starry void of outer space! It is worth 15 points - now we are getting into the more valuable berries!

Fishberry - The name is fairly self-explanatory... this berry literally looks just like a blue fish! It is worth 25 points.

Jumbleberry - This berry is just bizarre! The entire thing is covered with vibrant pink fur. Luckily, the Turmacs seem to like it, and it is worth 50 points.

Juicy Berry - My personal favourite, aptly named, because it really is the juiciest berry in all the land... this berry resembles a water balloon full of sweet juices. It is worth 75 points when your Turmac grabs and eats it!

Unguberry - This is a tough little red berry that tastes a lot like sweets! It is worth a whopping 100 points, but it's fairly rare to find in the hills of Meridell.

Aquaberry - This berry resembles a drop of fresh water. Meridell farmers consider it a pest because of the amount of water it takes from other plants when growing, so they try to keep it out of their farms, making it the rarest berry your Turmac can find. An aquaberry is worth 200 points!

Part 3: Strategy

In my travels across Meridell, I've spent my fair share of time helping tiny Turmacs traverse the rolling hills, and I've picked up a fair bit of strategy along the way. Here are some of my best tips for a successful game of Turmac Roll.

1. Despite how much your Turmac loves them, remember that picking up berries is actually only a secondary goal. Your primary goal is to keep the little guy rolling onwards! If you see a Fishberry but you'll have to crash headfirst into a tree stump to grab it, it's not worth it! High-value berries might be worth taking risks to catch, but that's up to your personal discretion.

2. Always play on "Hard" difficulty. It may be a bit more challenging at first, but it's important to push yourself! In the end you will earn more points by training yourself to play on "Hard" mode.

3. It's not a race - it's perfectly okay to slow your Turmac down. In fact, there may be times when you need to! So keep a finger on not just the forward and up arrow keys, but also the back arrow key too.

4. Don't be afraid to get muddy! From time to time, your Turmac will encounter piles of mud. Unlike tree stumps, rocks and jagged hills, these aren't harmful obstacles at all. Turmacs love to roll in the dirt and mud, and it's okay to let them do so!

5. Practice makes perfect! The more you play, the better you will become. Experienced Turmac Rollers can recognise patterns of hills that often appear in the same recognisable sequence - so with a bit of practice, you'll be able to anticipate what's coming up next and react accordingly.

And finally, if you do become discouraged, remember it's alright to simply take a break! Although your Turmac is having a great time rolling, it won't do him any harm to visit the other beautiful parts of Meridell and take a rest. After all, Turmac Roll is just a game, and should be fun, not frustrating. There are so many amazing things to do and see in Meridell - take time to appreciate them all!

Have a wonderful day, and happy rolling to you all!
