Neohome Insurance & You

by brodysseus

--------

Neohomes are one of the great features of Neopets. It is another layer of customizability to the game that stretches beyond your pets. It allows you to build a house in whatever land you desire, furnish it with an amazing mix of items both from main shops and the NC Mall, and also show it off to all your Neofriends!

There is a Neohomes Spotlight, as well as the Notable Neohome on the front page. These are both ways that special, well designed Neohomes are featured and shown off for the works of art they are. People invest countless hours and endless neopoints to find all the rare furniture they need to complete their aesthetic, as well as to expand rooms and build new areas.

What you'll also notice is that there are two types of Neohomes: Classic and 2.0.

Classic Neohomes

Classic Neohomes are the old style, using a more two dimensional artwork style with a top-down view of everything. You'll choose a plot of land in one of the many different areas of Neopia, varying in cost from 1,000 NP all the way up to 25,000 NP for some prime real estate in Faerieland. This will determine what kind of ground texture is found around your home.

Once you find the perfect area to build, you'll have to start choosing materials for the rooms. You can build a house of cardboard, or choose from more expensive materials like Marble or Tatami. Even a Sand structure is possible if you have a bit of money to shell out, as importing that from the Lost Desert is very difficult. You'll also have an option to start constructing a garden outside of the walls, and you'll find many different types of shrubbery and flowers to add to that.

You'll also be faced with a ton of extension options: lighting (you don't want to leave your pets in the dark), insurance, wallpaper, central heating (crucial for places like Terror Mountain), and security.

On the topic of extensions, I want to talk a bit more about Neohome insurance. The most important thing with Neohome insurance that you need to remember is that many insurance companies are out to profit off their customer and not pay back for damages. They will use any excuse they can to get out of footing the bill for damage done to your home. Choose wisely when you are purchasing insurance, because you may not be covered for certain things. The biggest one being wind damage.

Strong winds have caused substantial damage to your Neohome, which requires NP for repairs.

That is a common random event that will take away 20% of the NP you have on hand. It seems totally unaffected by Neohome insurance, the company either hits you with a super high deductible or just flat out refusing to cover this type of event. Because of this, I am very suspicious when buying Neohome insurance and I would say don't waste your money on it.

Moving on from that, once you pick your plot, building materials, and extensions, you can finally start furnishing your Classic Neohome. There are many, many items from many, many years of creation available and the possibilities do seem endless. Let your inspiration take over from here.

Neohomes 2.0

Neohomes 2.0 are an incredible upgrade to the Classic Neohomes. Not only in terms of look, but in terms of pricing. When you are picking a plot of land in one of the many areas of Neopia, you won't have to pay any type of fee for prime real estate. That's right, no more crazy expensive Faerieland space.

Instead of the top down view, Neohomes 2.0 give a more 3D and realistic view. You are able to turn the view around and see your home from many different angles, giving more life to your furniture and designs. There are also a lot of special furniture items available, which you'll see have a small Neohome icon in the corner of them. A visit to the Neohomes NP Superstore will give you a great starting point for furnishings and design.

Another benefit to Neohomes 2.0 is that you don't have to deal with those scammy insurance companies...mostly because you just aren't covered for anything no matter what. But really, were you actually covered with the previous one? No, so it's okay.

Deciding on lighting, design, wallpaper, etc is done in a much more customizable way now and handled room by room.

You'll be able to buy furniture both with NP as well as NC from the NC Mall, and there are some great items there. You'll also find animated items, a major step up from Classic Neohomes.

The interface is also incredibly simple to use, featuring drag and drop in real time. You are able to move walls, add doors and windows, and create rooms in any size you'd like. Using Neohomes 2.0 also qualifies you for the Neohomes Spotlight award which will put a very beautiful trophy on your user lookup and bring many users to your house to view it. Speaking of which, Neohomes 2.0 allows you to see how many people have checked out your Neohome!

But perhaps the coolest feature of Neohomes 2.0 is that you can add your Neopets and Petpets into the house. No more lifeless, empty houses filled with nothing but furniture like Classic Neohomes. You can put your pets in different rooms, maybe even customizing those rooms around the pet inside it. Petpets can also be placed in the house, there is room for everyone.

While Neohomes 2.0 offers a ton of features and an amazing updated look, you are able to go with whichever of the two types of Neohome you like. If you are a fan of Classic Neohomes, you can still create that. But if you once had a Classic Neohome and want to upgrade to Neohomes 2.0, you have the option of selling materials back to the bank for some money back, and it'll automatically return all your furniture to your inventory for you. At that point you can start over with a Neohome 2.0!

Whichever type of Neohome you decide to go with, you'll have endless options for customizing and adding furniture. There are literally thousands of different garden and Neohome items available to cater to the tastes of any designer. Work together with friends, get some advice from the Spotlights And Galleries Neoboard, and see what you can put together and show off. What are you waiting for, there's a lot of construction and furnishing to be done!

Employment
After running into a few Neopets and earning some angry shouts, the two friends skidded to a stop as they stared at the monstrous line of people in front of them. The Mynci whistled. “You’ll never get a ticket with this huge line, Lysander.”
