Spooky Food Recipes

by happyinengland

--------

I think we all know by now how much I love my food, my drinks, and my recipes. They make me feel happy inside and I want to share that joy with all of you! What better way to share the fun than with an article packed full of recipes to celebrate the scariest time of the year? OoOoOo, that’s right – I’m talking about the best thing in Autumn – Halloween! Now that’s definitely one thing I’d love for us to commemorate!

Here, take this Festive Faerie Fizz. It’s the perfect drink to consume whilst I let you in on some of my tasty recipes for this spooktacular day of the year.

     ---

Let’s start off the article with something yummy for breakfast! I am a huge fan of pancakes and I know a lot of you readers are too! Before I get started, it’s up to you whether you like to eat something sweet or savoury in the morning. Personally, I love sweet pancakes.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s get straight into the recipe!

     You will need:

     3 eggs

125g of flour (plain for thin, self-raising for thick)

     250ml of milk

     Pinch of salt

     Butter or oil

     Optional:

     Fruit

     Chocolate

     Nuts

Crack the three eggs into a bowl along with the rest of the ingredients. Mix the contents together until it becomes nice and smooth. Make sure there are no lumps in the mixture!

Heat your pan and place a bit of butter or oil on it once it’s hot. Move the pan around so the surface is covered properly with the butter or oil. This time, ladle the pancake batter onto the pan and move the pan around until the surface is covered again. Cook until golden brown on both sides.

Continue repeating the last step until you run of mixture.

     Hey presto - you’re done!

If you want to go all out (I mean I wouldn’t blame you if you did) then go ahead and let your imagination take over. Melt a giant bar of chocolate, throw in some Loveberry or Voidberry, add whatever you want – it’s your pancakes after all! I personally would shape the fruits to look like a Ghostkerchief and use nuts and chocolate as eyes!

      ---

If I had to associate the word celebration with something… something to eat in particular… it would be cake. Cake for birthdays, cake for anniversaries, cake for breakfast, cake for lunch, cake for dinner… cake, cake, cake.

I bet you don’t know what the next recipe is going to be. ;) Just kidding, I know you’re totally smart and already know that it’s in fact about…

     CAKE!

     You will need:

     1tbsp of bicarbonate of soda

     2 eggs

     3 tbsp of icing sugar

     25g of cocoa powder

     200g of butter

     200g of yogurt

250g of dark chocolate (broken into pieces)

     300g of plain flour

     350g of caster sugar

     400g of canned cherries

     500ml of double cream

     Cherries (however many you want!)

Pre-heat your oven to 180oc. Once you’ve done this, line 3 cake tins with greaseproof paper then prepare the ingredients mentioned above.

Place and mix the dry ingredients together in a bowl – this includes the salt, bicarbonate of soda, sugar, flour and cocoa. In another bowl, mix the eggs and yogurt together. Gently heat the butter and half of the chocolate in a third bowl and stir occasionally.

Now you should have 3 bowls full of 2 different mixtures. Pour the wet ingredients (the egg mixture and chocolate mixture) into the dry ingredients (flour mixture) bowl.

Boil 100ml of water and pour into the cake batter and mix until smooth. Pour said batter into the 3 tins lined previously making sure they all have an equal amount each.

Place the tins in the oven and bake for 25 minutes then once baked, remove the cakes and pierce them a few times each. Add 5tbsp of cherry juice over the 3 cakes then allow them to cool by the side.

Heat half of the double cream in a pan. Add the rest of the chocolate into a bowl and place on top of the pan. Whilst the cream and chocolate are heating, mix the jam and cherries together.

Mix the chocolate and cream together until it becomes a smooth consistency. In another bowl, mix the rest of the cream and icing sugar together. Spread this on two of the cakes. Spread the cherry mixture on top of both of these cakes.

Then, place the cakes on top of each other. On the topmost cake, spread the chocolate cream mixture. Throw some cherries on top of the cake. As it’s a special occasion, I would write something like ‘Happy Halloween’ in cherries. ;)

     ---

Okay, okay… it looks like someone has a sweet tooth over here so let’s try something savoury to balance this article out.

Imagine it – lying on the lawn by the lake with a group of Barbats singing in the branches. You’re reading the Halloween issue of the Neopian Times with a delicious slice of… pizza. Ahhh, bliss!

You’re going to have to make it first but don’t worry, it’s super easy!

     You will need:

     Olive oil

     Basil

     1tsp of sugar

     5g of yeast

     85ml of tomato puree

100g of cheese (any, grated or chopped)

     125ml of water

     200g of plain flour

This time, you will need to turn your oven’s temperature up a notch to 240oc. Evenly spread a bit of oil onto your baking tray.

Mix the dry ingredients together in a bowl then pour in the water and stir once more. Take the mixture out of the bowl and knead it. Take the dough and transfer it into the tray and press until filled consistently.

Pour and spread the tomato puree on top of the dough then season it. After, sprinkle some basil and mozzarella (or whatever cheese you want) over the puree. At this point, feel free to add any other ingredients such as asparagus onto your pizza. You can add a spooky theme to your pizza by shaping the cheese and vegetables into Barbats, Ghostkerchiefs, pumpkins, or wraiths to name a few.

Place the baking tray in the oven for 15 minutes then add a bit more basil once it’s done.

Thank you for taking the time to read my article. I hope you gained some inspiration from the recipes I put together for you. If you did, I would love to hear your thoughts on them! If you didn’t… well I still would like to hear about them! Maybe I can learn a thing or two from you!

     Happy Halloween! :*
