Are you ready for some Bori-tastic recipes to celebrate Bori Day this weekend? That's what I thought! It is that time of year where we get to reminisce on the awakening of the Boris, which were once buried deep under the ice in Terror Mountain. Oh, you haven't heard that story yet? Let's jump into that first, for some context: The leader of all the Boris had wrangled up all the Boris around Neopia and hidden them under a thick layer of ice in Terror Mountain. Why, you ask? The Bringer of Night, a Moehog demigod of death and destruction, was an extremely anti-Bori force who had made it his life's mission to destroy the entire species. He was unrelenting in his desire to destroy thousands of Boris, and he was seemingly indestructible. When confronted, he could summon an entire army of undead warriors during the night to help fight by his side. He attacked everything he could get within arm's reach, until a little Bori named Armin destroyed him. Once the coast was clear, the Boris were unfrozen and were able to spread and live freely all over Neopia. This is also the reason the original Boris could be created in the color Ice. Obviously after such a torrid past, they deserve a bit of recognition. The species hasn't had an easy time, and so we take Bori Day to celebrate how far they have come and their integration into Neopia. I'm a baker and chef myself and so it is fitting for me to create delicious recipes which you can serve at your Bori Day celebrations. Send out some invitations and have your closest friends over to celebrate with these exquisite dessert creations. NOTE: Please have a responsible adult supervise your baking. Knives, ovens and stovetops can be very dangerous and an experienced person should help you out.
Blueberry Bori Cupcakes Sweeter than a muffin, this could be topped with a sweet blueberry frosting or served as is with a nice cup of tea. They have refreshing bursts of berries! You could also replace the applesauce with mashed bananas and a pinch of cinnamon to make a more fall-like treat! 2 1/4 Cups Wheat Flour 1 cup Sugar 1/2 teaspoon Salt 1 1/2 teaspoons Baking Powder 3/4 teaspoons Baking Soda 1/2 cup Cheops or Vegetable Oil 1 1/2 cups Kau Kau Farm Soy Milk 1/2 cup Applesauce 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract 1 teaspoon Vinegar 1 teaspoon Chia Seeds mixed with 2 teaspoons water 1/2 cup Frozen Blueberries Combine wheat flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda in a large bowl. In a separate bowl combine oil, soy milk, applesauce, vanilla, vinegar, and the chia seeds. Pour the bowl of liquids into the flour mixture and mix until combined. Mix in blueberries. Separate into cupcake liners (makes about 16 cupcakes), and bake at 350F for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before serving.
Bori Sugar Cookies Bori's love sugar cookies, and these have a dusting of ice blue sugar to kick up the decoration. These are a perfect sweet treat for a lazy afternoon get together with friends. 2 cups Wheat Flour 1 teaspoon Baking Soda 1/4 teaspoon Salt 1/2 cup Margarine 3/4 cup Sugar 1 teaspoon Vanilla 2 tablespoons Kau Kau Farm Soy Milk 1/4 cup blue sanding sugar (or blue food coloring mixed with sugar) Mix together flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. In a separate bowl, cream together the margarine and sugar with a hand mixer for 2-3 minutes. Add the vanilla extract. Slowly add the flour mixture to the creamed butter and sugar, once it is all added you can slowly add the soy milk until fully combined. Scoop out cookie dough in tablespoon sized balls, roll in the blue sanding sugar, and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake cookies for 9 to 11 minutes at 350F.
Bubbling Bori Beverage Bori's love a bit of fizz in their drinks, and this purple bubbling drink is perfect to wash down a delicious lunch. This is best served in a tall glass with a long, curly crazy straw! 2 liters Fizzy Club Soda 2 cups Frozen Grapes or Blueberries 3 tablespoons Agave 4 Lime Chias, juiced and zested Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher and stir well until completely combined. Add ice to your liking! For an extra splash of color, a little bit of purple food safe coloring will elevate this drink a bit. If you'd like to avoid food coloring, replace 1/2 liter of the club soda with grape juice!
Bori Bowl Of Fruit As a bit of a healthier alternative, you will be pleased to know that Boris absolutely LOVE fruit! This is a super easy, customizable fruit salad. Use the suggested fruits below, or create your own combination with your favorite fruits of the season. The apricot will add a touch more sweetness and help keep the fruits from browning or going bad! 2 Bananas 2 Apples Bunch of Grapes Apricot Jam Slice your bananas and apples and add to a bowl with the grapes. Toss together until well combined. Mix some apricot jam with water to create a glaze and pour over your fruit bowl. Mix together until all the fruits are well coated. Refrigerate until ready to serve!
Which of these recipes will you serve at your Bori Day get together, or will you create your own? If you can track down a Bori-shaped cookie cutter you can use that on your sugar cookies, or even make Bori-shaped sandwiches to serve to your guests before dessert! If you feel intimidated by these recipes, you can always go out and buy an assortment of ice pops! Even though the Boris spent so long buried in ice, they still love the sweet, fruity flavor of ice pops. Don't be afraid to experiment a little with the recipes and put your own touches on them, half the fun of cooking is adding in your own signature flair to the dishes!
