Happy Happy

Are you feeling blue? Does the thought of another listless day or night just leave you feeling cold? The Neopets Team appears to know the challenge of being upbeat. Did you know there are sixty-two items with the word ‘happy’ in the title? Thirteen items with the word ‘joy’? Thirty-four items with the word ‘smile’? The list goes on and on. I’d even wager that the Ogrin was named just so they could introduce the word“grin”. It pleases me that we have a champion cheerer in our corner. I think the message The Neopets Team is sending is “We want you to be happy”. That message has been duly noted.

The different ways of cheering up your pet either by playing with them, treating them to various amusements or grooming them, implies they want us to spoil our pets a bit as well.

This brings about a special concern of mine. It is so easy to put our pets in the neolodge to take care of feeding them but next time you check them in, why not offer them a bit of variety? Why not give them a special treat? Check your pets into the AstroVilla, give them all twelve extras. Don’t just think of the neolodge as a Neopoints sink. Stop increasing the roach and flea population in Neopia by forcing a month-long stay in Cockroach Towers or Fleapit Motel.

Service to others is a great way to improve your outlook and lift your spirits. A kind word, a compliment about a fabulous looking pet, help with a quest or just a cheery good day to someone. I’m not talking about posting on boards with comments because you’re in this week’s Beauty Contest or the Caption Contest either.

A sense of accomplishment can give a boost to your well being also. Dress all your pets for the weather. Remove the Halloween apparel or beachwear. Read more than just the editorial in The Times. I love the series and the comics. Some writers are really hilarious but I love the dry wit displayed most.

A wave of nostalgia washes over me whenever I visit old areas of the site that I haven’t visited in a while. When I was younger the Lair of the Beast used to startle me. Now I just laugh at it. (It’s okay if you admit that you used to jump when it appeared) I also like to go to concerts. Yep, I can listen to the same old songs over and over. I do have a couple of suggestions in regards to new music and some wearables but that’s a separate issue that I’ll have to address to The Neopets Team directly.

On a particularly bland night when my nonexistent gaming skills are limiting the number of Neopoints I can earn and I’m just not in the mood to restock, I turn to the battle dome. Have you ever tried defeating EVERY opponent available to you on all three levels? I haven’t managed it yet. The Space Faerie on difficult isn’t possible for me to beat right now due to my battle pet. It couldn’t possibly be my mediocre battle set, right?

Happiness can be contagious. With the Altador Cup approaching (hopefully) I plan to once again play continuously while listening to some of my favourite tunes. I’ve reached the point where I can play Slushie Slinger while watching a show and I think I can play Shootout Showdown with my eyes closed. I’m going to give that a try this season just to see if I can do it.

Now that I’ve reached many of my neogoals and I’m struggling to set new (somewhat realistic) ones. I’ve jumped on the bandwagon with others and started playing Legends and Letters. Have you tried it? While sheltering at home it’s a simple way to stay connected with Neo and combines playing with battling which to me makes it much more fun.

I’m excited about the future of Neopets and the anticipation of new content, new lands, a great mobile app and dare I say it, new pets. I really, really, really, want a new pet species. I’d also like a new Chia colour like Banana or Cauliflower. Since they have no clothes options it should be easy, right? Of course, I don’t know any of the work involved so I’m sure the Art department is rolling their eyes about now. I just know it would make me happy. :)

You know what else makes me happy? Roller Coasters! Neopia needs one on Roo Island or even down in Maraqua. Maybe an amusement park where we can drop off our pets for the day? What about letting our pets work a day in the fields at the Meri-Acre Farms to earn a few Neopoints and a stronger work ethic? I know I know I get carried away at times….

I love when one of the Neopets Team members posts on the boards. Now that makes me very happy. I especially love when they ask for opinions. It makes me feel involved and necessary to the site. I love the editorial as well but the board posts feel like they’re more approachable. Who doesn’t love feeling like someone is listening to you?

Currently I’m reading books to my pet like “The Joys of Fried Foods” and “The Joy of Burnt Desert Food”. I’m not sure if it's finding Joy or if I’m in need of food right now.

I thought about naming a new pet something that fills me with joy or something funny that would make me smile but I can’t invest the time right now. I’m already juggling seven pets and sheltering at home is beginning to warp my sense of humour. Names like Antiseptic, 52daysncounting, or Monotony might not seem funny this time next year.

Spring is a time for renewal, growth, rebirth, etc and after a long winter it is like an awakening from the doldrums and I am anticipating all the good things in store for us in the next few months.
