Fantastic Neopets Images and Where to Find Them

by emilyhunter5034

--------

Have you ever wondered where in Neopia to look for those images that you see other players using on their customized pages? Have you ever wondered where to find the right image for the banner on your userlookup, or where to seek out that small but spiffy image to spruce up your petpage? Well, look no further! Today I have compiled a list of great places to source the many great graphics that Neopia has to offer. In case that some sites are harder to find, you may want to bookmark those pages for easier access!

     1. Full Screen Backgrounds and Collectable Card Backgrounds

     Full Screen Backgrounds: (www.neopets.com/backgrounds.phtml)

     Collectable Card Backgrounds: (www.neopets.com/backgrounds_ccards.phtml)

On these two pages, you can find, collectively, more than five hundred Neopets fullscreen backgrounds available for use! All of the images come in two sizes: 1024x768 and 800x600. These are absolutely perfect for your banner creation. Better yet, in Full Screen Backgrounds, there’s a handy “search” option, so you can easily find images related to the theme you’re going for. For example, if you are an Aisha lover like myself, enter “Aisha” and you’ll find all twenty-six backgrounds that include them! Do keep in mind that in order to acquire the larger sized versions of the image, you will need to click on the desired size in order to download.

     2. Neopets Wearable Backgrounds

Besides full screen backgrounds, there are also wearable backgrounds! Unlike the previous category, there is no straightforward way to access these images. However, if you’re looking to make a smaller graphic, using the corresponding item image for the background you like may be enough. On the other hand, if you are looking to create something like a larger banner, the 80x80 images might be a tad small. If this is the case, head over to Dress to Impress and start with an Invisible-coloured Neopet. Then, search and try out whichever background you wish to use. Should you desire the image to be even larger, zoom out. After you’re done resizing, screenshot the page and you shall have a large-sized version of the background!

     3. Your Snazzy Neopets

Sure, those wearable backgrounds are amazing for graphics creation, but perhaps you are more inclined to use the actual image of your pet in full attire. This is entirely possible as well, and I’ll even teach you how you could get different emotions and sizes of these images. Let’s start with the following URL:

     https://pets.neopets.com/cpn/NEOPET_NAME/1/2.png

The first step would be to substitute “NEOPET_NAME” for the actual name of your Neopet. Now, notice the two numbers separated by a slash at the end? These numbers will allow you to play around with, respectively, the emotions of your pet, and the size of the image. There are five effective values for the first number slot. 1 shows your Neopet happy and content while 2 shows them sad; 3, angry, 4, sick, and 5 shows a blank face. The second number is an indicator of size. A general rule is that the larger the second number is, the bigger the image that will come up. 3 and 6 are the exceptions to this rule and show a focus on your pet, rather than a larger image. So for example, if I wanted the full size preview of how sweet Jiethe the Vandagyre would look after getting irritated of Kacheek Seek, I would call upon this url: https://pets.neopets.com/cpn/Jiethe/3/7.png. As you can see, these two variables allow for a whooping 35 possible combinations for each and every one of your Neopets!

     4. Gallery Backgrounds (Sketches & Tiled Backgrounds)

     Sketches: (www.neopets.com/sketches.phtml)

     Tiled Backgrounds: (www.neopets.com/backgrounds_tiled.phtml)

Sometimes, what you’re looking for is simply a cute background. I grouped these together because both of them are accessible from the user gallery. To access these fine images from your gallery, select “Create or Edit Theme Category.” In an existing theme category, there should be an option to choose a “Preset Form.” You will subsequently be directed to a page with a huge variety of background choices! Many of the backgrounds there can also be used as icons. Naturally, how you choose to use the images is entirely up to you. The sky’s the limit here!

     5. User Shopkeepers

Unlike gallery backgrounds, user shopkeeper images uniformly feature a main character, be it a Neopet, petpet or famous Neopian. You can easily find the images by heading over to “Create/Edit Your Shop.” You should see the option, “Select a New Shopkeeper.” There are thousands of images to be found there! Yes, you read that right, thousands. To make things even better, there is the option to make your shopkeeper transparent, allowing for easier editing of the image! However, some shopkeepers belong only in the “Neopets” options, like famous Neopians such as Isca, who is under "Aisha"; others are only categorized in the “Colours” list, like the Faeries. Still others are hidden from all visible options and can only be found through searching a keyword. It is perhaps no surprise that the nefarious Dr. Sloth lurks beneath the official radars...

     6. Neopets Fun Images

As you can probably infer from the name, these images are nothing but pure fun! Here, you are treated to thousands of animated images. These are perfect for small images such as logos, icons, and buttons. There is no better way to capture someone’s attention with adorable, animated graphics Currently, there are a staggering 77 categories to choose from. There’s even an entire catalogue dedicated to Gadgadsbogen! Who doesn’t love bouncing fruits, right?

     7. Colouring Pages

Almost every land on the Map of Neopia has its very own Colouring Pages. On each land’s Colouring Pages, you can find lots of detailed lineart, waiting to be coloured! All of these images are black and white, as you have probably deduced from the name. However, this effectively opens up even more options for you to play with. Not only can you preserve the monochromatic appearance for a manga-style aesthetic, you can also go wild and colour these images however you like!

     8. Neopian Shopkeepers

You probably saw this one coming from reading “User Shopkeepers”, but Neopian Shops don’t just restock valuable items; they also offer some amazing images! Perhaps surprisingly, there are more Neopian Shopkeeper images than there are Neopian shops. However, some shopkeeper images have been retired, and you can’t easily find them on site. Rumour has it, though, that these older images can be found in Dr. Sloth’s Image Emporium. I find that these shopkeeper images work very well for a wide variety of graphics, ranging from something as big as a banner to something as small as a button.

     9. Gallery of Evil & Gallery of Heroes

     Gallery of Evil (www.neopets.com/evil.phtml)

     Gallery of Heroes (www.neopets.com/hero.phtml)

Featuring pencil-sketch styled images, you can find intricate portraits of the most celebrated -- and most notorious Neopians in these galleries. However, just because some of these beings are evil, it doesn’t mean that the paintings in the Gallery of Evil cannot be works of art! In fact, you may find that most of them are most pleasing to the eye. It just goes on to show that you cannot judge a book by its cover. Let’s not forget about the striking heroes of Neopia, though! The lovely sketches in the Gallery of Heroes completely capture the bravery of our heroes and show them in all their magnificence.

     10. Random Events

These are a little harder to come across, but Random Events are also a good resource for graphic creation. Despite their horizontal length, the popup banners usually feature a single character, and for this reason, I find that they are most useful for smaller graphics. Some elements of Random Event graphics can be found elsewhere, most notably the Faeries: you can find these magical Neopians residing in the Faerie Quests page. Simply follow Queen Fyora through her mention of “several faeries” in her short speech, and you’ll find portraits of all the Faeries there!

     11. Caption Contest

Finally, we come to the last category --- Caption Contest images! I saved the best for last. Even though these are generally more suited to medium and smaller sized graphics, I find the sheer diversity of the images a pleasure to browse through. Moreover, caption images almost always involve interaction between characters, and they often offer interesting stories within the framework of a mere 400x400 canvas. As the core of caption contests, they are the embodiment of the adage, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” What are you waiting for? Start making the most of these storytelling pixels!

And that’s it! These are my top 11 places to find Neopets images. I hope this article helped you find an image that you like. Believe it or not, I have only covered a small portion of Neopets images. There are a lot more graphics to be found in the vast world of Neopia, and you can come across many lovely images by exploring. So, without further ado, start your adventure right away!
