NC News: Neopians Prepare for an Unprecedented Sale

     Samantha Meepkins, a seasoned player who has been trading and collecting NC items since January 2014, said she had made plans to stay awake for the full duration of the 24-hour event.

     "I've already made the sandwiches and iced coffee and put them in my portable fridge," she said. "And I got my NC yesterday, so I'll be ready to buy everything that comes out. Can't take any chances with payment delays."

     Under normal circumstances, for each holiday season, the NC Mall sells one set of new items and one re-release capsule containing past items from that season. Now that all the holidays are to be celebrated at once, however, the Mall will boast an unprecedented 52 re-release capsules for sale.

     Austin Appbobble, a shopper with a more extensive collection than Meepkins', cautiously agrees. "It kinda sucks to know that some of my pops might be devalued," he said. "But it's hard to say for sure. Sometimes pops actually go up in value during a re-release because of all the hype. In any case, I'm going to get some extras for retrading later so I can have a chance at trading for the rare Contagious Town background one day."

     A relatively new shopper named Becky Tipbip said she just wants more clothing options for her pets. "It feels like there's usually just so little to buy," she said. "I'm not really sure what I'm hoping for exactly, but I'm just excited to be able to add more stuff to my closet. My Kacheek really needs more dresses and makeup."

     Meanwhile, Brightvale University professor of finance Dr. Lena Treepippit has a less rosy view of the situation. "I'm concerned about this sudden sale of things that are usually season-exclusive," she said in an interview Monday. "Historically, when companies make such grand sales, it is a sign that the business is about to shut down."

     Most Neopians are just hoping for the best.

     "I've been in and out all day moving capsules from the warehouse," said a worker who wishes to remain anonymous. "But I'm getting paid overtime, so I don't mind. It means I can pay off my loans that much faster."

     The sale is expected to start at midnight NST on April 1.
