Meridell Travel Guide

by theguy2020

--------

After the news of a possible three plots coming in the next year, Meridell vs. Darigan is back in the spotlight! Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the great battles between the regions of Meridell and Darigan will be a very grand event all over Neopia – but probably most celebrated by those who took part. If you’re planning on visiting Meridell for the occasion, check out this travel guide to see what you can do while you’re there.

After a long day of travelling, you’re bound to be hungry. Our first recommendation is to stop by the local eatery, Merifoods. Your pets can dine on local specialities like the Epple Sandwich and Bullseye Pie. Make sure you come with a good sum of Neopoints as nothing is free in this store. Also, if you check back often you may even manage to find an elusive Draik Egg. Don’t accidentally feed one of these to your Neopet and instead take it to a Draik nest where you can hatch it. This is the only way to create a Draik in Neopia!

If your pets are feeling lonely, next stop by Ye Olde Petpets to find them a new companion. This shop sells a plethora of Petpets, including the very rare Turmacs, Vullards, Mortogs and Zebies. A quick history note: Darigan used petpets to attack during the war so it may be best to be prepared…for the worst-case scenario!

By now, you’ve probably spent a good amount of Neopoints that you’ll need to replenish. And you’ll need quite a few if you want to fully celebrate this monumental anniversary for Meridell! There are quite a few ways to earn Neopoints in Meridell, including Kiss The Mortog. In this game, you choose between an ever-growing number of Mortogs. If you kiss the magical Mortog – a secret prince - you win Neopoints. Then you have the choice to either collect your winnings or keep playing. However, if you pick the non-magical Mortog it will explode, so the game is over and you lose all your winnings! Choose carefully but keep in mind if you get a high score you get to take home a trophy and an avatar.

Another must-do local activity is to partake in a game of Ultimate Bullseye II. In this game, rumoured to be used to train the Meridell army, you practice your accuracy with a bow by aiming for the bullseye on the target. Occasionally Punchbag Bob will make an appearance in this game. Practising your aim may come in handy for the sequence of events Neopia is expecting next year! In addition, scoring above 100 in this game earns a collectable avatar. Finally, as usual, scoring very high gives you the chance to take home a trophy.

We highly recommend heading over to Meri Acres Farm! Here you can pick your own berries which can be helpful snacks that you can enjoy now or later! For the cost of 400 Neopoints you are able to collect up to six items. If you choose to return to Meridell for another trip, this special farm has three exclusive items available on March 17th: 3 Leaf Clover, 4 Leaf Clover and 16 Leaf Clover! By collecting six items that aren’t a pile of dung (who would want that as a snack anyway?) you will receive an avatar.

If picking berries wasn’t exciting enough for you, there’s an even better pastime in Meridell – counting potatoes! For regular Potato Counter, you will count some idle potatoes and win a reward in Neopoints if you were correct based on how quick you were. Race a friend to see who can count the fastest for even more fun! If you’re feeling adventurous, there is a different type of potato counter called Extreme Potato Counter – and it truly lives up to the name! In this game, the potatoes are moving across the screen. As the game continues they move quicker, and other non-potato objects are thrown in to confuse you! If you manage to count 200 or more potatoes you receive an avatar and possibly a trophy.

Our next destination is the Meridell Rubbish Dump. One man’s trash truly is another man’s treasure! While the surface looks truly like a pile of garbage, if you’re willing to get your hands dirty you might find some expensive Paintbrushes and Battledome items! Some other cool items you can find here are Bottled Faeries, Codestones, and Hidden Tower items that are both still sold and retired. This place is quite the popular attraction as many Neopians try to win an avatar by winning a Petpet, Paintbrush, Bottled Faerie, Hidden Tower item or apple core! Keep in mind that there is a daily limit to how many items you can pick up (10 items every day!)

Before leaving the farm area, one last attraction we recommend checking out is the Giant Marrow. This magical marrow changes in size each day. Try to guess the weight of the marrow on your visit! We’ll give you a hint: it is always between 200 and 800 pounds. The first 10 Neopians to guess win a special prize! Some of the high-value prizes you can win include Elixir of Marrow, Marrow Mask and Marrow Loaf. Try guessing today, no harm can come from guessing the weight of the marrow!

Leaving Meri Acres Farm, we recommend stopping by the king of all Petpets – Turmaculus. This large Petpet can only be woken up during one specific hour that changes every day. If you manage to wake him up (sometimes even in this hour you won’t be able to) you can receive a prize of Neopoints, items, or a strength increase for your active pet. However, be warned! One of the other “prizes” is Turmaculus eating your Petpet! You’ll need to get a new one elsewhere, but at least this grants you an avatar.

Next, we recommend heading over to Illusen’s Glade to complete a quest for the good faerie Illusen. Her glade is in a little forest nearby and maybe a little harder to find than the other attractions but is definitely worth it! There are several prizes that you can receive for completing her quests, including the final prize of Illusens Staff (which may be very useful if there is a new plot!) In addition, there are two avatars you can receive from completing her quests, one for completing Quest 20 and the other for completing a quest on Illusen Day!

Finally, head over to Meridell Castle. There is lots to do in this grand structure. To start, we think you should try out Double or Nothing. Like Kiss the Mortog, this is a game of complete chance – erm… unless the Meepits have told you the secret strategy! The game is simple: flip a coin, and if it’s heads you double your money and if tails you lose all your money! If you can manage to collect 320 Neopoints you also bring home an avatar! Another game you can check out is Escape from Meridell Castle, where you guide Sir Valigard, a knight, to escape the prison! Many Darigan prisoners probably had to experience this during the war! Scoring in the Top 50 among all Neopians will allow you to take home an avatar.

Once you’re done with these games we recommend going to Kayla’s Potion Shop. You can find various potions there to strengthen your Neopet in more ways than one! This could be especially useful as if there is another invasion your pets will need to be tough to defend Meridell! Some of the best potions for training strength include Bubbling Fungus and Jar of Forest Earth. For training defence look into Cooling Balm of the Warrior and Bomberry Elixir. Hopefully, Kayla’s plethora of potions are enough to keep your pet ready for any trouble that may be looming!

Before leaving Meridell Castle, don’t forget to pay a visit to the grumpy King Skarl! When meeting him, try to have your funny hat on because you can tell him two jokes every day. If you make him laugh, you can win exclusive prizes that are worth millions. If you tell him a very specific joke: What do you do if fierce Peophins has eaten too much tin of olives? – you may win an avatar! If your joke is particularly bad, you may be thrown out of the castle – which could possibly earn you another avatar!

We hope you enjoyed this visitor’s guide to Meridell. Remember to have fun while visiting on this very important anniversary, and be sure to be on the lookout for future events while paying attention to the events of the past – you may learn a thing or two!
