Contest: Short Story Jamboree Full Moon Fever by loopyloupie Hulgar was a young striped lupe with a terrible secret, he was a werelupe. Once a month at the full moon he became a horrible monster, with no control over his actions. It was as though his mind had been hypnotised by the beautiful light. He paced anxiously round his bedroom. It would be full moon in a few hours. Though tonight he had a plan. He had emptied one of his rooms and planned to lock himself in there until the madness that took him had run its course. Hoping against hope that he had not overlooked anything that might allow him to escape. At last the time came he walked into the spare room shutting the door behind him and turning the key in the lock. Now came the tricky part, what to do with the key. He had debated long and hard over this for the past month. It had to be somewhere he could get it when he was back to normal, but not while the moon still had its hold on him. He pushed it under the crack in the door and hoped his werelupe paws would be too large to reach it. As the moon rose Hulgar felt the change coming over him. His normally pale fur became brown and grew thicker, his eyes turned green, and his body changed shape to allow him to stand on his hind legs. Beads of sweat poured down Hulgar's forehead as his body trembled in terror. It would be just a few minutes before the moon would be at its fullest. This was it, he could feel his mind seeping away with every passing minute. This was the shortest part of the transformation but seemed to last for ever. When it was complete Hulgar was no more than an observer trapped within his own body. Able to see and hear but with no control over his actions and that was what terrified him the most. The beast within him became enraged when it could find no escape from the room. It clawed at the walls and door and roared but to no avail. Eventually tired by his efforts Hulgar sat and howled until the last rays of moonlight disappeared from view with the first light of morning. The wolfish thoughts left him and his body slowly began to return to normal. He knew the curse still hung over hm, like an ever looming raincloud, but at least it was over for this month. He had nothing to worry about until next full moon and now he had a plan that worked the future seemed a whole lot brighter. With that thought still in his mind he climbed into his bed, exhausted from the nights activities and fell into a deep sleep.
