Hannah and the Ice Caves FAQ

What are Fate cards?

Fate is a new card type in the Hannah and the Ice Caves set. To play a Fate card, do what it says, then attach it to a Neopet in play. If that Neopet is replaced, the Fate stays on the new Neopet (just like Equipment). If that Neopet is traded in, the Fate gets discarded (just like Equipment). There are 2 kinds of Fates: Curses and Quests.

What's the difference between a Curse and a Quest?

It's best to play Curses on your opponent's Neopets. A Curse has a bad effect on the Neopet it's attached to. It will stay attached to that Neopet until another card removes it or the Neopet is traded in. It's best to play Quests on your own Neopets. When you complete the Quest, you discard it and get a prize!

When can I play Fate cards?

Unless the card says otherwise, you can only play a Fate card on the main part of your own turn when nothing else is happening. This means it has to be after you've drawn your card for the turn, untapped your Neopets, and flipped over your new Basic Neopet, and there can't be a contest or anything else happening at the time. If you play a Quest, you can't start any more contests that turn, so playing a Quest is probably the last thing you want to do on your turn.

Some cards (Snow Aisha, Snow Bruce, Shivering Potion) say that one or more rivals can't untap on my opponent's next turn. What happens if my Neopet is discarded or those rivals move to a different arena before my opponent's turn starts?

They still won't untap. Once the cards that can't untap are chosen, it doesn't matter if they're still in the same arena as your Neopet or not.

Many cards in the set tell me to discard a card from play if a certain condition is met. For example, Faerieland is a Location that says "If a Villain is here, discard that Villain," and Spotted Meowclops says "If this Petpet is attached to an Experienced Neopet, discard this Petpet." When do cards like these check their conditions?

All the time. If a Villain is in an arena and you put Faerieland there, you discard that Villain. Then, if a new Villain is ever played or moved into the same arena as Faerieland, that new Villain is immediately discarded! Other cards that work this way include Achy Head, Elite Blaster, Healing Springs, and Snowflea Grass.

Where does the jelly arena go?

I don't know what you're talking about. Jelly arena? There's no such thing. I suppose you could put it to the left or the right of any other arena or between two arenas. It's up to you, I guess, because there's no such thing.

Can I just decide to make a jelly arena?

Absolutely not. The only way the jelly arena could possibly exist would be if a card specifically told you to create one. And what are the odds of that happening?

Can there be two jelly arenas at once?

Since the jelly arena is purely imaginary, there are no limits on how many can (or can't) exist. Zero times six is still zero.

Alpine Challenger
Villain | Usul | Earth
To play this, you need an Earth Neopet.
When a Neopet moves out of this arena to an arena without a Villain, move this Villain there.
When this Villain loses a contest, untap all its rivals.

What happens if a card like Lower Ice Caves makes two or more Neopets move out of Alpine Challenger's arena at the same time?

The player whose turn it is decides which of the new arenas Alpine Challenger ends up in.

Double-Bladed Staff
Equipment | Weapon
To play this, tap one of your Neopets.
When you play this card, you may attach it to a Villain.
While this Equipment is attached to a Villain, when a player rolls against that Villain in a contest, his or her opponent rolls a die for that Villain.

Do I have to attach Double-Bladed Staff to my own Villain?

No. Villains aren't controlled by either player, so you can attach this Equipment to any Villain in play.

Flotsam Raider
Neopet | Experienced Flotsam | Water
When you would draw a card for winning a contest this Neopet is in, you may instead draw 2 cards and then choose and discard a card from your hand.

If I want, can I bank a card for winning a contest this Neopet is in instead of using its card-drawing ability?

Yes. You always have that option unless something says you don't.

Form Up!
Something Has Happened | Air
To play this, you need an Air Neopet.
Rearrange your Neopets, keeping the same number in each arena.

When I rearrange my Neopets, can I keep one or more of them in the arenas they were already in?

Yes. You don't have to move each of your Neopets away from the arena it's in.

Frostbite
Fate | Curse | Water
To play this, you need a Water Neopet.
This Neopet can't tap to move.

Can the cursed Neopet tap to do other things?

Yes. It can still tap to start a contest, get traded in, help you play a card from your hand (like an Equipment or Hero, for example), or use its "tap ability."

Galem Darkhand
Villain | Grarrl | Dark
To play this, you need a Dark Neopet.
This Villain gets +2 to all stats for each Villain in each player's discard pile.
When this Villain loses a contest, untap all its rivals.

I have three Jhudoras in my discard pile. Does Galem Darkhand get +2 to all stats or +6 to all stats?

He gets +6 to all stats. Count each Villain card separately, even if there are duplicates.

Gelert Wizard
Neopet | Experienced Gelert | Fire
You may tap this Neopet to look at your opponent's hand. You may choose an Item or Equipment in his or her hand and exchange it with a card in his or her bank.

The card in my opponent's hand that I chose has a "when you bank this card" effect. Do I get that effect, or does my opponent?

Neither of you does. When you put a card in a bank due to an exchange, that doesn't count as banking that card.

Grarrl Brute
Neopet | Experienced Grarrl | Dark
This Neopet gets +3 to all stats in contests against only one rival.

Does this include contests against Villains?

Yes. A Villain is a rival.

Hannah's Magic Rope
Equipment
To play this, tap one of your Neopets.
When one of your other Neopets or Heroes starts or joins a contest, you may choose a card in your hand and discard it to attach this Equipment to that Neopet or Hero.

Can I use this ability to attach Hannah's Magic Rope to a Neopet or Hero from my hand?

No. You can only do this to move Hannah's Magic Rope from one of your Neopets or Heroes to another. If you could attach this card from your hand it would say so, like Invisible Doglefox does.

Icetravaganza
Something Has Happened | Air
To play this, tap one of your Air Neopets.
Reveal the top 3 cards of your deck. If all 3 have the same card name, you win the game. Otherwise, discard them.

Really???

Yup. Forget about contests and banking and everything. You just win the whole game!

Jelly World
Doesn't exist. I don't know why anyone would ask questions about a card that doesn't exist.

If Jelly World is moved into the strength arena, does the strength arena become the jelly arena?

No! There is no jelly arena! Of course, if a card called Jelly World existed (which it doesn't) and it wound up in the strength arena (which is preposterous), then you would follow the contest rules it describes for any contests in the strength arena.

When I start a contest at Jelly World, can I pick a different stat for each of my Neopets or Heroes in the contest?

I'm not even going to pretend I understand this question. Gibberish, total gibberish! If you decide to start making sense, I'd tell you that you pick one stat at the start of the contest to use for all your Neopets and Heroes. Then your opponent picks the stat that all of his or her Neopets and Heroes will use. But let's stick to questions about real cards, OK?

Orange Aisha
Neopet | Basic Aisha | Light
When you play this card, put it into play untapped.

I use a card like Storm the Castle to put Orange Aisha into play. Can I put it into an arena untapped?

No. Orange Aisha only comes into play untapped when you play it. Playing a Basic Neopet means flipping it over from your Neopet stack when you have fewer than 3 Basic Neopets in play or when you trade in one of your other Neopets. It doesn't include when a card tells you to put a new Basic Neopet into play.

Safety Deposit Box
Location
Cards in banks can't be discarded.

Does it matter which arena this is in?

No. As long as Safety Deposit Box is in play, cards in banks can't be discarded.

What happens if Safety Deposit Box is in play and I bank Hubrid Nox Statue?

To bank Hubrid Nox Statue, you need to discard a Hubrid's Puzzle Box in your bank. Since you can't, you can't bank Hubrid Nox Statue at all.

What happens if Safety Deposit Box is in play and I lose a contest against Hadrak?

You can't discard a card from your bank, so you skip that instruction. Then you bank an Equipment or Item from your hand.

Shoyru Archer
Neopet | Experienced Shoyru | Air
When a contest starts, you may tap this Neopet to give +5 to all stats for that contest.

My opponent starts a contest and I want to tap Shoyru Archer to use its ability. Whose side gets +5 to all stats for the contest?

Your side does. No matter who starts the contest, your side would get the +5 from your Shoyru Archer. If your opponent starts a contest in the same arena as Shoyru Archer, it can both join the contest and tap to give +5.

Terror Mountain
Location | Earth
To play this, you need an Earth Neopet. When a contest starts here, each player chooses one of his or her Neopets or Heroes here. Only those Neopets or Heroes can join the contest.

What happens if I start a contest at Terror Mountain with two Neopets?

You can't. When you announce that you're going to start a contest at Terror Mountain, you pick one of your Neopets or Heroes. Then your opponent does the same. You start the contest with the Neopet or Hero you chose, and the Neopet or Hero your opponent chose joins the contest if it can. (If it can't join the contest for some reason, your opponent doesn't get to choose a new one.)

Thieves Guild
Location | Fire
To play this, you need a Fire Neopet.
When a player banks a card for winning a contest here, he or she rolls a die. If the number rolled is equal to the card's points, he or she chooses a card in his or her opponent's bank and discards it.

I bank a 2-point Negg that says "If you have at least 4 Neggs that have different names in your bank (including this Negg), this card is worth 4 points." When I roll a die, will a roll of 2 match, or will a roll of 4 match?

A roll of 4 would let you discard a card from your opponent's bank. While a card is in your bank, always read what it says to figure out how many points it's really worth.
