Tectonic Caves
Caves made by moving rocks are called tectonic caves. Tectonic caves can be gaps left in a pile of fallen boulders, or fissures torn in the rock layers underground.

Sea Caves
Not underwater, but along the coast, you will find sea caves. The powerful waves blasting and grinding away at the rocky coast create holes in the weaker areas of rock. Hey presto: a cave!

Mud Caves
Mud caves are made of, you guessed it, mud. They are carved out by running water during events such as flash floods.

Ice Caves
Ice caves are caves containing ice. The "Ice Caves" of Terror Mountain are not actually ice caves, but "glacier caves," as their walls are solid ice: they are in a glacier.
Ice caves form under very special conditions. The air inside them, must be cold enough to freeze water, but the rock must be warm enough for water to flow through and into the cave.

Lava Caves
Many different types of cave can be formed during volcanic eruptions. Trees that get engulfed in lava and rot away afterwards can leave tree-shaped caves in the rock. Lava tubes are made when flowing rivers of lava form a hardened roof of rock on top, while the lava river continues to flow inside, and finally drains away leaving a long, empty tube in the rock. Sometimes huge bubbles of gas will form and lava will harden around them, leaving a blister cave.
Lava caves are called "primary caves" because they are formed at the same time as the rock around them. Caves made in already existing rock, such as karst caves, are called "secondary caves".
