"So, you say Damiyé and Mysinell threw you and Casidrelle
off Faerieland?" questioned Fyora as she finished listening to all that had
happened to the young striped Shoyru in front of her. She leaned forward, one
hand on her chin.
"That's right. They caught us by surprise, and
broke my Faerie's wings. Crumpled mine, too, but Return of a Faerie straightened
them out." JC, short for Jadecrystal, nodded.
"If what you say is true-"
"Really! All this happened!" interjected Shaylily,
the hot-headed disco Shoyru standing next to JC. Furbyfun, her owner, nodded
agreeably.
"I want to believe you, but I have no proof.
We must take this to the Faerie Court if we desire any action to be taken."
She opened a door, which led from the Hidden Tower into the main palace of Faerie
City. The odd group of an owner, five Shoyrus and the Faerie Queen tromped down
the seemingly endless hallways, the only ones knowing where exactly they were
headed being the white-winged striped Shoyru and Fyora.
After what seemed to be an eternity, the Faerie
Queen opened a door that led to an empty circular room. In the interior was
a table, in the shape of a half-circle, with six chairs surrounding it. There
were also two booths, with a bench looking as if it had been transported out
of a park sitting in front of them. Surrounding this were seven rows of seats,
with stairs leading down to the center.
"The Faerie Court," said Fyora, waving a hand
at the room. Somehow, the name didn't do the spectacular room justice. But this
was where justice was served, and where Damiyé and Mysinell, when court opened,
would be accused.
Time flew like a soaring Snorkle, and in less
than an hour two livid Dark Faeries faced the five Shoyrus and an owner across
the bench. The judge, the same old Earth Faerie that had presided when Casidrelle
stood with her Shoyru, was going on about the charges they had against them,
but JC wasn't really listening. The striped Shoyru was thinking about her Faerie,
and where the former Uber Air Faerie could be. The other Uber Faeries stood
around the table, a new one standing in Casidrelle's place.
The gavel banged, and Damiyé was removed from
her position as an Uber Faerie on Fyora's recommendation. She and Mysinell were
taken outside, undoubtedly to be thrown from the cloud of Faeries. The Uber
Fire Faerie asked a question: "Who will be the Uber Dark Faerie now?"
"The Faerie Academy has some graduating students
who just might be up to the task. I know one in particular who seemed quite
gifted when I met her; she's a Dark Faerie by the name of Camalia. Once she's
trained, she'll most likely be a good candidate." It was a Light Faerie, that
said this, sitting in the front row of seats.
"Lumina, I did not ask your advice- although
it seems reasonable to accept it, as always," answered the judge.
Fyora extinguished the chandelier, signaling
that the trial was over. The Faerie populace began to leave the room, and so
did the Shoyrus and their owner. Having nowhere else to go, or at least nowhere
within walking distance, they returned to the Faerie Queen's tower.
After a wait of five minutes, in which Furbyfun
twiddled her thumbs, Shaylily, Aerolani and JC read books lent out from the
Deep Catacombs' library, Starilya threw a few Neopoints into Aquamarine's bowl
and fished them out again, and StarSkyFire had a short catnap in his chair.
The ruler of Faerieland entered the room, and
sat down in her Velvet Armchair. "I have been discussing the matter of Jadecrystal's
care with the Council and the Uber Faeries," she said, directed mainly at Furbyfun,
"and they all seem to think that, since Casidrelle is gone, you are the best
second choice. Jadecrystal trusts her, and has already been to their Neohome.
Despite the, ah, occasional hectic moment, I think you are a quite capable owner."
"Thanks. Have you heard anything about Casidrelle?
Or that poor Meerca?"
Fyora sighed, and brushed a strand of purple
hair back from her face. "No word on either of them. Apparently, you were the
last to see the unfortunate Faerie before she disappeared. As for the Meerca,
we don't even know what world she landed in. Oh, and here are Jadecrystal's
registration papers; they just need your signature." She passed several papers
to the owner.
"Hey, you have her here as Jadecrystal2000,"
noticed Furbyfun, raising an eyebrow. "Why's that?"
"I checked at Create-A-Pet, and Jadecrystal alone
is taken. If it bothers you, you can always call her simply Jadecrystal- or
JC, as you seem to prefer."
The owner signed the papers, and handed them
back to Fyora. "There you go," she commented, "but where am I supposed to put
her? I can't have five pets."
"Not a problem. I created another account for
her." The Faerie Queen handed her a little slip of paper with the account's
username and its 'important word' written on it. "She'll most likely still live
at your Neohome, though, unless you make one for your new account."
"Thanks. This isn't against Neopian law, is it?
I really don't want to be an ice cube," added Furbyfun.
"Of course not! As long as you don't use it for
extra game playing, free item collection, or Beauty Contest votes, it's fine."
"Great! Now, I should probably be getting back
to my Neohome, so goodbye," called the owner as she headed out the door.
They waited at the Faerieland carriage station,
having bought a ticket from the Faerie Aisha at the desk. "I warn you, that
Uni doing the 3:30 trip is a terrible gossip, and an eavesdropper too.
She listens to all her passengers' conversations and then tells everything to
her friends after work," the Aisha commented as she handed them the access card.
They nodded, not really listening, as they waited for their flight.
"When can we expect her here?" asked Shaylily.
"Maybe around 3:29 or so. She always shows up
at the last minute." Sure enough, the white Uni arrived at 3:29, carrying a
group of Lupes. They left the station, and the group stepped into the carriage.
"Like, what brings you to, like, Faerieland?"
asked the Uni as she took off.
"It's kind of a long story," said Aerolani awkwardly.
"I, like, totally want to, like, know," said
the snow-white Neopet.
"It's, like, none of your business," snapped
StarSkyFire. The shadow Shoyru proceeded to yell several rather rude insults
at the Uni, who wasn't even fazed.
"I bring, like, pirates up here from, like, Krawk
Island," she said, flipping her mane, "you think I'll, like, care if you, like,
call me a prying idiot? I've heard, like, a lot worse."
"Forget it," said Furbyfun irritably. She pulled
the canopy of the carriage shut.
Starilya yanked it open again. "I want to see
the sky!" she protested.
"But that nosy Uni will eavesdrop on our conversations,"
complained Shaylily.
"Then why talk at all?" asked Aerolani. "I'm
trying to read, and it would do me a world of good if you would be quiet. Besides,
then she won't have any gossip about us to spread."
"Like, that is so totally untrue! I'm,
like, so not a gossip! By the way, I just heard this, like, totally
juicy tidbit about the Uber Fire Faerie. Wanna, like, hear it?"
"No, I'm trying to read," said Aerolani as she
looked up from her book.
So the residents of 5055 Wishing Well Drive were
quiet the rest of the way home, even Starilya, which was a first for her. The
white Shoyru reading Breathe was very pleased, although the Uni flying
their carriage was disappointed.
When their ride ended and the company had returned
to their Neohome, things proceeded as normally as was possible in their family.
StarSkyFire returned to his inventing, and the occasional bang was heard from
the second floor. This was done to the music, if you can call the blasting of
a Trumpet of Deafening, a guitar that sounded like a Kadoatie being tortured,
and a set of trash cans used as drums, music, of White Speckles, as Aerolani
and Starilya called their band of sorts.
Night began to fall, and as the sun set Shaylily
found herself sitting out in the NeoGarden, stretched out on the grass, with
her owner.
"Remember how, last time we had an adventure
like this, I wondered who would have something weird happen to them next? Well,
I think it was our whole family. Weird in a good way, though; we gained a friend
from the whole ordeal."
"Yeah, adventure always seems to find us," said
Furbyfun. "Maybe for the best."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, think about it. If nothing else, we found
out about Starilya's past last time, and this time we made a new friend."
"I guess you're right," said the disco Shoyru
as she watched the setting sun fade, falling beneath the horizon.
