Neopia Fun Factor

by midnitemist

Fun in Neopia generally means the many games NeoPets Staff has created for us to play with. However, there are many other fun stuff in Neopia waiting for people to explore and realise. Here, I've stated out a few ways in which you can enjoy life with your pets, other than playing games.

1) Pets
Pets are naturally playful, so you can have a lot of fun with them. Feeding and playing with my pets is fun to me. Because you see, when you feed your pets, you have to decide how many food items would fill him up, and then you have the choice of what to buy. Plus you have to calculate the average price for that particular item and work out the best buy (if your slow computer is enemies with the Main Shops like mine) Unless you feed your pets with the daily omelettes Sabre X guards so well ...

2) Shop
Shops are mainly used for selling items, and to make more NP. But other than that, you can try looking at it in another way. Decorating your shop not only beautifies it, makes customers want to come back, it also allows you to explore with basic HTML and have fun. There are many different Web sites that provides free backgrounds and graphics for you to decorate your shop with. But while having fun, you should remember to be considerate - Don't put too many huge graphics, dolls, or loud music that freezes people's screen and takes forever to load. Sometimes other computers may work differently from yours. If can, try it once on another computer, example one in your School Library, and see the effect. Treat your shop as a real shop, a real business, and you will find it to be enjoying.

3) NeoHome
If you have some NP to spare, try getting a NeoHome for your pet. It may not be of any use now, but as NeoPets has said, they're working on it, and later on, you can hold parties and have your own garden. Even if you can't invite your friends over now, you can still prepare your it first. Some sites like www.nothingbutneopets.com provide a NeoHome Guide, in which they give some advice if you're just starting out on your NeoHome. It can be fun - Buying furniture, deciding where to place it, giving names to the rooms, upgrading it. The advantage is, NeoPets furniture is really easy to shift around, not like real-life furniture, where it weighs about a thousand kilograms, and shifting it to a new place everyday would take up too much time and effort. In NeoPets, you can change the furniture anytime, according to your mood, remove the furniture if you don't like it anymore, or add new furniture, and move the current ones around the house.

4) Pet's Page
NeoPets has been very kind to allow our pets to have a page all about themselves. You can have a lot of fun trying out many different HTML techniques. Even if you don't understand fanciful HTML language, NeoPets has provided a very basic HTML Guide for us. Like your shop, you can decorate it any way you want. Throw in some graphics, cute backgrounds, interesting contents and - DING! - It becomes a great page for your very own pet. Add information about your pet, like how you came to choose that particular type of NeoPet, and what his name means, or how he became such a fine young pet he is now. If you enter it for the Site Spotlight, you may even get a Trophy!

5) Exploring
There are many different "worlds" in NeoPets. Other than Neopia Central, all of them have something good waiting in store for you. My favourite is Terror Mountain, since there is Happy Valley, which houses the infamous Snowager and Kiosk. Recently Maraqua was invaded by the bad bad bad Krawk Pirates. But in it's place came out Krawk Island. Now, that is another interesting place to visit. You can train your pets in the Academy, which is cheaper than in the Training School, though it takes far longer. However, you can play Deckball or Deckswabber while waiting for your pet to finish his course. In Mystery Island, interesting tours are also provided for your pets for only 50 NP. Plus, Random Events have been known to appear more often in other worlds. In short, you can spend some very meaningful time exploring around with your pets. Just treat it like a Family Day Outing :o)

Here are several places, which I think has been overlooked by many as "fun". Some people might think it's very troublesome, like maintaining a shop. And think I'm nuts, saying that calculating the average price for something and then finding the best buy is very fun. But it really can be, if you don't treat it as a chore. Hope you have more fun in Neopia from now on!
