Know Your Abilities

by ultralord

I have made some simple icons to help you understand these abilities in a simpler and more easily understood way. You will see these next to the Abilities name:

! - A good ability that is effective in both 1 player fights, and fights against other peoples Neopets

1st - A good ability to start with that is at a low level and that is very effective

* An ability that has the same effect whether it used on Strong, Medium, or Weak power rating (in other words, best to use on Weak rating)

Here is an example of the chart I made:

(Ability Name) (Extra notes:!, 1st, *)
"Small description"
(Faerie you get it from, level you get it from)

Strong (Power Rating): This is how much strength you use and how effective it is when you use it (This uses 40% of your power).

Medium (Power Rating): This is how much strength you use and how effective it is when you use it (This uses 20% of your power).

Weak (Power Rating): This is how much strength you use and how effective it is when you use it (This uses 10% of your power).

(Extra Tips)
Your pet can only have 7 abilities to use at once. Here are my favorites (based on defence, attack, healing, etc.!)

The Abilities!

Burrow (!, 1st)

"Your pet starts to dig a hole and mysteriously disappears underground, avoiding your opponents attack!"

Earth Faerie, Level 10

Strong: This is the level of power that most people use the ability burrow on. When on strong power rating, it can block all water, air, earth, physical, fire and earth

Medium: Still blocks about 2-3 icons each of water, air, earth, physical, fire and earth

Weak: Blocks only 1-2 icons each of water, air, earth, physical, fire and earth

Tips:
· Some people like to use the ability burrow on their first turn on the strong setting. This stops most attacks since most items have either one or two of the icons burrow blocks. Since most snowballs also have water, earth, and physical, this stops all of the snowballs attacks

· I like to use Burrow in spurts, usually on the Medium attack. It uses up less energy, but still blocks a considerable amount of damage.

Regeneration (!)

"Your pet starts to glow with a mysterious light shed around them! Your pet looks healthier!"

Earth Faerie, Level 23

Strong: This is the only successful way of using regeneration. It regains 33 % of your pets lost health, which is great if your pet has over 70 hp

Medium: Does Nothing

Weak: Does Nothing

Tips:
· For people with high hp, this is a very effective healing ability! If you have an 100 hp pet, it can regenerate about 33 hp! For most Neopians with pets with small hp though, it is effective, but not as worth it as say a healing item for healing your pet.

· Usually when you see this it the amount of hp you gain will have decimals. Luckily for you, it rounds off the number, and that is how much hp you gain!

Fiery Gaze (!, 1st, *)

"Your pet's eyes start to glow. Your opponent is frozen in their spot with fear!"

Fire Faerie, Level 6

Strong: Since you can use this attack on Weak and still have a chance of freezing, I don't recommend wasting 40% of your energy on this.

Medium: Same as Strong

Weak: Since you only use 10% or your power, you still have a chance of freezing your opponent, and as an extra, it adds 1 light icon to your attack

Tips:
· Last Year Neopets changed the abilities Diamond Dust and Fiery Gaze. They used to always freeze (without the extra light icon) but now it only has a small chance (maybe 25%) of freezing your opponent · This is a favorite for many Neopians who cant afford a Hypno Helmet (an item that automatically freezes, about 150k). They will use it a lot.

· Don't be worried about the extra light icon. It doesn't really cause much damage when your opponent uses it on you, it's just an added effect.

Diamond Dust (!, *)

"Your pet inhales softly and releases a deadly frost enveloping your opponent in ice!"

Air Faerie, Level ???

Strong: Since you can use this attack on Weak and still have a chance of freezing, I don't recommend wasting 40% of your energy on this.

Medium: Same as Strong

Weak: Since you only use 10% or your power, you still have a chance of freezing your opponent, and as an extra, it adds 1 light icon to your attack

Tips:
· This is exactly like the ability Fiery Gaze, except you get it from a different faerie at a higher level.

Magic Berries (!, 1st, *)

"Your pet closes its eyes, and picks two magical berries from a tree nearby!

Earth Faerie, Level 6

Strong: You get two magical berries no matter if you use it on Strong, Medium, or weak

Medium: You get two magical berries no matter you use it on Strong, Medium, or weak

Weak: How does this sound? 10% of your pet's power for two magic berries that heal 9 hp each? Sounds good!

Tips:
· This is an okay ability for pets up to 50 hp. Each berry heals 9 hp, and most people use it on weak. So you can use up all of the rest of your healing items, but still heal. Two at a time heals 18 hp, and using one of your pet's attacks can still save you from losing the battle

Sink (!)

"Your pet starts to methodically spin, and disappears below the soil!"

Dark Faerie, Level ???

Strong: This is just like burrow, except it blocks all light, fire, physical, water, and dark

Medium: Blocks 2-3 icons of light, fire, physical, water, and dark

Weak: Blocks 1-2 icons of light, fire, physical, water, and dark

Tips:
· I love to use this on Medium power also. This is THE defensive ability that totally kills Grand Lightning Beam and Improved Lightning Beams! Most Neopians use the Beams because they are great weapons, but they cant touch you while you're underground!

· Most Neopians don't use this as much as burrow because most items use more of the icons that burrow blocks, than what Sink blocks, but it's still a great thing to use when you cant or don't want to use burrow.

Drain Life (!, *)

"Your pet starts to laugh evilly, and some of your opponents HP is sucked through its body!"

Dark Faerie, Level 27

Strong: Since this is an attack that is equally as good on strong, medium, and weak, I prefer to use it on the weak setting

Medium: Since this is an attack that is equally as good on strong, medium, and weak, I prefer to use it on the weak setting

Weak: This is possibly the most powerful ability out there. This ability can be used on the weak setting, and still have the same effects as the strong setting. It sucks 11% of your opponents hp, and refills your pets health. It may not be that strong of an attack against pet with maybe 25 hp, but with pets that have 60 hp and over, you heal a considerable amount of hp from your opponent

Tips:
· This ability can be used anytime during the battle. The beginning of the battle is good because your opponent usually has all of their hp.

· This is also a great ability to use on 1-player opponents and real players! You can easily beat an opponent with 200 hp just by using life drain!

Using these abilities can greatly affect the outcome of a battle! These are all of the abilities I like to use with my pets! They sometimes can easily take the place of a great item, but instead of paying tons of NP you can get a faerie and use the ability forever!

All of these abilities that I have listed work. Many of the other abilities either do a little damage (some small icons) or don't work at all. Eventually I hope Neopets will activate and make all of the abilities to do something, but for now not all of them work

Look all around for faeries. They stock In the Battle Magic shop for around 400 NP-600 NP. They go very fast though! You can always check the shops and auctions, although in shops the average price of the faerie is around 4000 NP. You can also randomly get faeries from random events!

Wanna try out your new abilities or have any general questions about the Battledome? Neeomail me or challenge one of my pets! My user name is Ultralord, so Neomail me any time!
