The Birth of a Warrior

by adorable_adoptables

It had been a cold week in Neopia and the citizens spent time keeping warm, stocking up on food and staying indoors. But it was spring, the time of new life and new starts... the shivering residents of Leafy Lane didn't care about that... NOTHING would make them venture outside... apart from one rebellious little creature.

Tumbling_Something was considered something of a freak, he had nuts and bolts holding his head on and was a very peculiar colour, but he managed to have fun anyway, mostly with his PetPet who was also a little odd! Anyhow, he was tired of staying indoors, and cold or not he needed to dust down his bolts and get some fresh air. So he wrapped up warm and stepped outside of his Leafy Lane NeoHome. Shivering he pulled his scarf tighter around his odd looking neck and trudged off down the lane. The day was actually quite sunny, and although it was bitterly cold everything about him looked bright and colourful. He stopped at the edge of Haunted Woods to sniff a beautiful yellow daffodil, but decided against picking it as his Mummy had often told him not to pick wild flowers.

Mummy had ALSO told him not to venture into Haunted Woods alone! She was frightened that due to his slightly unique appearance some dodgy character would come along and Neopetnap him. Tumbling_Something however decided he needed an adventure so with a sharp intake of breathe, he plucked up enough courage to take the dark winding path into the trees ahead of him. The further he got into the woods, the darker it seemed, and the sunlight which had earlier been blinding him, all but vanished. Tumbling's imagination began to work overtime, and every crack of a twig he heard made him jump a little. However this little pet was brave and he carried on, for some reason he had an instinctive feeling that something special was about to occur to him, and boy did he deserve it!

Finally after a long, heart-thumping trek into the trees, there was a little nook. To one side of the nook was a path, which Tumbling knew led to the Witch of Haunted Woods, which was ONE path he would avoid at all costs. To the other side was a huge old oak tree, its branches so tall and its trunk so wide it would take Tumbling an hour just to walk around it! He just stood there; staring at the tree, imaging how many scared little NeoPets had stood before it. Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed something white, and shiny and pretty large nestling in some moss at the foot of the tree. Venturing closer, Tumbling bent down and took a closer look. It was an egg! A warm egg at that! Tumbling gently picked up the egg and held it in his little odd hands. He could hear strange squeaking noises coming from somewhere, and as he held the egg closer to his funny looking ears he realised with a shock that the sound was coming from inside the egg!

Having no regard for anything but this precious find of his, Tumbling ripped off his scarf, wrapped the egg in it and took off for home at a sprint! By the time he arrived back at his Leafy Lane home he felt like it was 100 degrees outside!

"Mummy," he cried, "look what I have found and Mummy, it squeaks!" Tumbling's Mummy gently untied the scarf and saw the egg. "Tumbling you have found an Eyrie egg, did you see its parents anywhere?" Tumbling recounted the story of his little excursion into Haunted Woods even though he knew Mummy would be a little mad at him for it. Mummy just smiled gently at him and told him that the egg was ready to hatch, and that they must keep it warm and covered and safe from the other pets in the house, as she knew that they would not be so gentle with it as Tumbling.

So the egg was placed reverently in Tumbling's very own bedroom, at the foot of his bed, in a box filled with warm fluff. Every night Tumbling would whisper things to the egg, and prayed that it would hatch soon! He didn't have to wait very long!

After the second night of the egg's stay in the box, Tumbling was awoken by a cracking sound, followed by a rustling. Intrigued, he sprang to the end of his bed and looked in the box. A little head was peeking out of the box! The little head suddenly seemed to find legs, and these legs broke away the rest of the egg's shell! Finally, an entire little bird stood in front of Tumbling, shaking bits of eggshells off him.

"Well what are you looking at?" said the baby Eyrie to Tumbling!

Here ends the story of how Wicked_Warrior was born! Hope you liked it.
