The Lateness of Issue 50

by lost_desert_fan

PEOPLE EAGERLY WATCHED the news station on their televisions. "...And in other news..." the News Wocky said, shuffling her paper. "Signs of the 50th Issue of The Neopian Times have been coming from the 'Clones' of the Neopets Team. Now brought to you by Leslie Lupe with news about the new Issue..."

A Starry Lupe appeared on the screen of the televisions...

"Leslie Lupe here with the whereabouts on the New Issue! After 49 other Issues of the Times, Mister Shankly and his fellow 'Clones' have finally gotten to the 50th Issue! How do you feel about this Mister Shankly, sir?" Leslie held a microphone in front of Mister Shankly.

"Well Miss Leslie, me myself and my fellow 'Clones' are proud to have gotten this far in the new style of the Times. We are happy that the writers of Neopia have helped us gotten this far with the New looking Issues. We thank them very much," Mister Shankly grinned.

"Well, there you have it! Mister Shankly himself has commented on the 50th Issue!" Leslie Lupe smiled and the screen clicked off.

"The 50th Issue already! How can this be?" Dr. Frank Sloth frowned and stared at the black screen of his television. "Popular Mister Shankly with his fellow 'Clones'. How pathetic!" Sloth grimily said, slapping down his remote.

"Oops. Now I might not be able to watch those Scary Movies anymore..." Sloth frowned as he looked around for his remote. "Drat!" Sloth frowned, and sighed. "Erm, your evilness," a Mutant Kougra walked up, holding a remote on a black silk cushion. "Ah! Thank-you, Kougra!" Sloth picked up the remote.

"You're welcome your evilness..." the Mutant Kougra bowed, than scuttled away. Sloth looked around and placed his remote onto a side table. "I have to prevent from the 50th Issue from coming out!" Sloth shouted, making his cup of Hot Chocolate shake. Splashes of brown stained his grey carpet. "Darn!" Sloth shouted.

Two Usuls scuttled in and picked up his cup and squirted the carpet with clear liquid. One of the Usuls rubbed the spots and the stains disappeared. The Usuls rushed back out of the room.

"I will prevent the 50th Issue from coming," Sloth shouted. "I will prevent it!" The room shook.

"MUAHAHAHA!" Sloth laughed wickedly, than started to cough. "Ah! I need my medicine!" he shouted...

In Neopia...

"Come on LDF! Why are you so worked up on this thing?" Alieica asked, sighing. "You're asking why? I never got my second trophy for getting my second article published!" LDF hissed back. "It's not that much of a big thing," Leinnea said, slurping a Chocolate Milkshake.

"Yes it is!" LDF shouted. "Calm down, LDF!" MaxCanine shouted. "OK, OK... you're right. I should calm down about this, and write a letter to Mister Shankly to say that I never got my second Neopian Times Trophy."

"Or you could use e-mail. It's a whole lot faster," Alie smiled, opening a can of Neocola. "I know, but since you got so much e-mail last week," LDF raised an eyebrow at Alie, "the computer has been very slow. How did you get so much e-mail?" Alie smiled nervously. "Well..."

LDF blinked and looked at Alie again. "'Well' what?" Alie smiled nervously again. "Well..." LDF sighed. "Well I have to hurry to get to the Guild to see if I can do anything... and hopefully I'll get some stories or articles done too without you guys badgering me…" LDF sighed and picked up a bag filled with paper, notebooks, and pencils.

"You guys know how to keep in touch, don't you?" LDF asked, looking from Alie to Lei to Max.

"You got it, L!" Lei smiled. "Alie?" LDF asked. "Yes LDF. I'll look over both of them," Alie smiled. "OK, well, you know where to call," LDF smiled, and closed the door behind her.

"Let's see, how about going to the Training School?"

"LDF only has two Codestones left. Neither of them are the ones we need…"

"What about going to the Skate Park?"

"Nah, it says we need owner supervision…"

"Well, how about fighting in the Battledome?"

     "Can't. Hardly anyone fights us…"

"Why not we just visit Blaze's pets? We haven't seen them in a week!"

"That I think we can do," Alie smiled.

"Yay!" Lei smiled happily as she rushed upstairs to get her bag. "I advise we should have a picnic lunch in the park. Since Frog can't join us on this fine day, it would be a picnic for six…" Max said, walking into the kitchen and pulling out a picnic basket. "Yes, I agree, Max," Alie said, picking up her bag. "Hmm... I wonder what Andrea, Lupe, and Moon like on their sandwiches?" Max asked, looking up at Alie.

"Well, there's only one way to find out..." Lei said as she flew down the stairs and into the kitchen. Lei picked up the phone and dialed a few numbers and waited for an answer.

"Yes, hello Moon! It's Lei, you know, LDF's Shoyru. Say, do you want to go on a picnic with us?" There was a long pause, and Lei continued. "Yes, I know. Frog will just have to miss out on our picnic. Well, Max was wondering what kind of sandwiches you'd like to have..." Another long pause, than, "OK. I'll tell him that after I write it down..." Lei grabbed a notebook and a pen, and wrote down a few things. "Thanks Moon. See you three soon."

Lei smiled, and handed Max the piece of notebook paper. "OK, let's see. Andrea wants a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Lupe probably wants a peanut butter and jelly sandwich too. And Moon wants a Bacon Belly Buster, so we're going to have to make the next best thing."

"No, you mean you're going to have to make the next best thing," Alie smiled as she walked up the stairs. "What? I have to make all this by myself?" Max asked, looking flabbergasted. "No, just kidding you, Max." Alie smiled again and walked back down, standing in front of Max.

By the time they were finished, Alie was covered in peanut butter, Max had maybe spots if sticky jelly on his fur, and Lei was stuck with both, and pieces of bread were stuck to the places of were some of the jelly was. "Shall we go, erm, clean up?" Lei looked at Alie. Alie nodded. "We can't go to the picnic like this, and we would get some funny looks when we go to Blaze's house."

They all rushed to their bathrooms to clean up. Max came out first with a huge towel. Alie grabbed her bag and got the picnic basket, while Lei hurriedly picked up the cooler with all the drinks in it.

"Come on! I said we were going to get there by noon!" Lei hissed, rushing out the door. "We're right behind you, Lei!" Alie said, running after her. "Hey! Wait for me!" Max said, running after them, the towel in his mouth.

"Where exactly are we meeting them, Lei?" Alie asked as she caught her breath next to Lei. "The park," Lei replied simply, looking around. "WHICH ONE?" Max asked, skidding to a stop a few feet away from them. "Oh," Lei smiled nervously. "Moon told me to wait for them at the park on Rainbow Lane."

"Rainbow Lane? Do you realise how far away we are from there?" Max asked, his eyes widening. "No, Rainbow Lane is just over there, Max," Alie said, her paw pointing to eastward of them. "Oh, silly me than..." Max said sarcastically.

Alie and Max followed Lei as they headed east. A blue Lupe, a Christmas Lupe, and a Yellow Gelert came into view as they came closer. "Oi! It's Alie, Max, and Lei!" the Christmas Lupe shouted. "It's about time you three got here!" the Gelert shouted also.

Alie smiled as they finally got over there. Max looked uneasily at the blanket they were sitting on. "I thought we were going to bring the picnic blanket," the Christmas Lupe said, looking at the towel in Max's mouth.

"Since we brought the picnic, we thought we were supposed to bring the picnic blanket too," Lei said, looking from one pet to the next.

"Well, why not just use both of them?" Alie said at the same time as the other Yellow Gelert. "Hmm?" the both of them questioned each other. The two Gelerts laughed. "Seems as though we hang out together a bit too much," the Yellow Gelert smiled.

"Well, let's eat!" They munched happily away on their sandwiches, snacks, and other things. From far, far away, Dr. Sloth was watching...

From far, far away...

"Aw, can I have a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich?" an Usul asked, looking at the doctor. "Go ahead, now stop bothering me!" hissed Sloth in reply, turning back to his telescope. "Neopian Times lovers..." Sloth narrowed his crimson eyes and looked at the three Lupes, two Gelerts, and Shoyru through the telescope.

"Get me a soda, well you?" Sloth said, not looking up, but just meaning one of the mutated pets in the room with him. A Lupe dashed away to get him a Neocola with a straw. Sloth slurped it through the straw noisily, continuing to watch the Neopians have their scrumptious picnic in Rainbow Lane Park.

"Erm, Doctor, do you have to slurp so loudly? I was kind of reading a bit..." a Kiko stuttered, trying not to be zapped by a ray gun. Sloth looked at the Kiko, than continued to look into his telescope.

"Darn, finished it already. No matter," Sloth said, throwing the can over his shoulder...

Back with the gang...

"Oh... I'm stuffed," Lei said, falling back and looking at the sky, still moaning. "Than you shouldn't have had so many apples than," Andrea said, smiling. "Yeah, Lei. When will you ever learn..." Max grinned as he looked at his younger sister.

Just than before Lei could moan again, a huge fireball rushed down to Neopia. A few pets screamed and flew, ran, or burrowed away to prevent themselves from getting hit.

"Oh my goodness! A fireball!" Moon said, looking at it. "It's not a fireball," Lupe said softly, looking at it also. "It's a flaming capsule. But, one question; who's in it?" Alie added.

"Well, time to prevent it from coming!" Lupe shouted. "No, wait! Someone's coming. Someone evil. I can sense it," Moon said softly, staring at the capsule, which landed in front of them, making a hole in the ground.

After the dust cleared, all seven Neopets approached the capsule cautiously, Alie and Andrea leading. "What do you think is in there?" Max asked, looking at the capsule suspiciously. "I dunno, but something definitely evil," Lei whispered.

The capsule door opened, making the seven Neopets gasp in horror. Dr. Sloth came running out, coughing and choking madly. "Need... medicine!" he choked, than dropped down onto his face.

"That's Dr. Sloth," Lei said quickly. "And I thought it was only a myth."

"No, Dr. Sloth is really real. I wonder what he's doing here? Maybe we could help him?" Max said, looking at the fainted doctor. "Max," Lupe hissed, "That's Dr. Sloth! The evil mad scientist that created mutated pets, and enslaved the Grundos..."

"Hush up, Lupe!" Andrea hissed angrily, glaring at her older brother. "Sorry," Lupe hissed back sarcastically. "Will you two just hush up?" Alie said angrily, looking at both of them.

The unconscious doctor blinked and regained consciousness. He sat up, and looked at the Neopets surrounding him. "Erm, hi?" Lei said uneasily, looking at him. Dr. Sloth screeched and jumped up surprisingly. "What the? What in VirtuPets are you?" he asked stupidly, looking at them backing away slightly. "Well, I'm Alieica, this is MaxCanine, my sister Leinnea, and our friends, WhiteMoonHunter, Andrea_27617, and Lupe_27617," Alie said simply, looking at him.

"Well, you must know who I am," Sloth said, dusting off his coat.

"Yeah! You're Dr. Sloth!" Lei said happily, smiling. "Don't do that!" Sloth hissed. "Do what?"

"Smile!" Don't smile in front of me!"

     "Oh, than sorry..."

Sloth glared at them, than stormed away to do something. "He seemed very nice," Max said grimily, looking back at his friends. "Yeah, never knew that..."

Meanwhile somewhere else in Neopia...

"Ah! Finally finished!" Sloth laughed evilly as he finished cranking up his new invention. "The Zapto-Ray 6000." Sloth smiled gleefully as he looked up at his newest invention. "All I need to do is press this button and WHAM-O! All those Neopian Times Issues will be destroyed like that!"

Sloth gleefully pressed a large red button, and watched the screen of a few large televisions. Everywhere in Neopia; Tyrannian, Mystery Island, Faerieland, all The Neopian Times Issues vanished from sight.

Neopians all over the world of Neopia watched in horror as their copies of different Issues vanished from thin air. Sloth laughed horribly watching the Issues disappear from sight and turning into mounds of differently coloured sand. "BWAHAHAHAHA!" laughed Sloth, making the whole secret lair shake vigorously. "I hate it when I do that," Sloth stopped and sighed.

"Hey!" an Aisha shouted, watching as her Neopian Times Issue 49 evaporated into sand. "And I was just going to read the next part of 'Needed'..."

Lei watched her Issue transform into a mound of sand. "Alie! Max! Look at my Issue!" Lei frowned, and wiped the sand off her paws. "That's strange. Issue 49 just came out a few days ago, and already someone wants it too be gone!"

"Wait, I saw Sloth carry a blueprint of some sort, and he scribbled down 'Machine to get rid of all The Neopian Times Issues'! Maybe he was the one!"

The gang rushed in the trail of Sloth's scent; followed by Max and Lupe sniffing out the trail. "Over there!" Max shouted, pointing at a library. "Really, you don't see an evil villain's lair in a library..." Alie said softly, looking up at the vast library.

"I see Sloth in at the top," Lei said, narrowing her eyes. "How are we going to get up there?"

"Well," Alie grinned at Lei mischievously. "You're not going to...?" Lei looked at her older sister. Alie continued to grin mischievously...

Back with Sloth...

"Now I have all The Neopian Times copies destroyed! The delay will be stupendous!" Sloth shouted happily.

Crowds of angry Neopians started to form a chain around The Neopian Times Building. "WE WANT THE TIMES! WE WANT THE TIMES!" they shouted. Mister Shankly looked out the window curiously to see what the entire racket was about. "This is going to be a problem," he said, biting his bottom lip. "Since all the Issues seem to be gone, we're going to have to make more Issues for people to reread..."

Minutes later...

"Hey! You're going to crumple my wing if you keep doing that!" snapped Lei hastily, trying hard to flap her wings to get to the top. "Well, than you should have only brought one of us," Moon snapped back, her eyes flashing. "Well, I wasn't the one that said two of us should be on Lei!" Lei frowned at Moon. "Will you two just be quiet?" Lupe hissed.

Moments later...

"Finally! Now my wings are all sore from caring five differently weighted passengers," Lei moaned as she rubbed her wings. "Well, it's not out fault that Blaze only made land-dwelling pets," Andrea said hastily. "Whatever. Just hand me a pack of ice," Lei said, reaching out her paw. "Here you go," Alie slapped down a pack of ice onto Lei's paw, and Lei pressed it against her wing. "Ah... that feels much better."

"Come on!" mouthed Max, rushing into the open window and rushing away into the darkness. "Max!" Moon hissed. "Get back here!" Her words were too late. Max had already darted away into the darkness, leaving the gang decreased by one. "I'm worried about him," Lupe said quietly, jumping into the hallway.

"Yes, so am I. If we came home with Max as a Mutant Lupe, LDF would have a Kau," Alie whispered, jumping after Lupe. "Yeah, and if I came home with Lupe and Moon as Mutant Lupes also," Andrea whispered. She made a coughing noise and rushed her paw against her throat.

"Don't do that!" hissed Lei. A yelp from the end of the corridor echoed. "Max!" the five pets shouted at once, breaking the sound barrier. "Take this you scurvy scoundrel!" Max shouted, a clang of swords sounded. "Oh no you don't!" Max continued to block off Sloth's sword.

"What the heck do you think they're doing?" Lei whispered, running over to the end of the hallway. "Let's see," Moon whispered, poking her head into the light.

Max was wielded a sword, fencing off Sloth. Sloth murmured something angrily as Max shouted, "Cliché!" Lupe grinned happily as he whispered into Alie's ear. Alie nodded, and rushed after Lupe. "CHARGE!" Lupe shouted, tackling Sloth with all his might. Lei started to whack him hard against his head with her mahogany staff.

"Well, this is fun!" Alie said happily, a tint of sarcasm in her voice. "That hurts!" Sloth shouted, trying to cover his head. "TAKE THIS!" Lei shouted, knocking the sword from his grip.

Moon grinned as she looked at Sloth. "You guys know what to do now, don't you?" Lupe grinned as well. Sloth gasped in horror as the six Neopets smiled at him, hugging him with all their might. "STOP THIS! STOP THIS AT ONCE! CAN'T… STAND… THE… SMILES!"

Sloth fainted in a heap on the floor. Alie laughed happily as she kicked him to make him flip over onto his face. "Well, that was easier than I thought it would be," Andrea said, blinking. "Nah, you just have to find his weakness," Lupe laughed.

"Well, that was a good adventure. What's next?" Lei asked as the six Neopians walked out of the library, Lupe dragging Sloth by his cape. "Let's see if Mister Shankly might need any help, since all over Neopia The Neopian Times disappeared."

At The Neopian Times Building...

"WE WANT THE TIMES!" the crowd shouted, the human chain still around the building.

     "This could be a problem..."

"Yeah, and the Times won't be able to come out until next week, since the paper they were supposed to get hasn't gotten a chance to get into the building..."

After Sloth regained consciousness...

"ARGH! Blasted Neopets..." Sloth growled. "Someday I will get my revenge! SOMEDAY!" he shouted, making a few birds fly out of a tree nearby.

"MUAHAHAHAHA!" he laughed wickedly, but soon began to cough wildly. "Get... me... my... medicine!" he shouted...

The End

Authors' Note: Yes, these pets are ALL real, 'cept maybe the beginning ones. Alieica, MaxCanine, and Leinnea are all mine, and Lupe_27617, Andrea_27617, and WhiteMoonHunter all belong to my best friend, flamed_fire_2001. Hmm... I wonder if I spelled 'Mister Shankly' right... apologies to Mister Shankly if I did... Hehehe...

I actually do call Alie, Lei, Max, Lupe, Andrea, and Moon 'The Gang of Six', since I'm weird like that. Hopefully this gets into Issue 50, but if not, then all hope is lost.

Not really, but... *laughs* I'm just saying that....
