Weird Note: I am aware that this has nothing to do with winning the beauty
contest... This is also all in my opinion and if you disagree and want to scream
at me, then you obviously need this new little insight.
PET CENTRAL - Yes, the Beauty
Contest has such glorious prizes. They seem so easy to get, don't they?
And all you need is about 6,000 votes to get to first place overall! Oh wow!
And if you act pitiful and say it's your first time and that you need to win
this to get enough for your pet's faerie paintbrush, you'll get 2,000 more votes!
Then, if you use chatspeak and baby talk...
Allow me to shudder and gag. There are so many errors and ugliness in this
Beauty Contest business that I rarely, if ever, enter it.
First of all, it's not the ugly pictures that bother me, it's the ugly cut-and-pastes.
These will almost always win if the pet's owner is in a giant guild or if they
have 500+ accounts at their disposal. All you cut-and-pasters out there are
bashed by various artists (myself included), in case you are unaware. We do
not appreciate you stealing our trophies and prizes with your sadness just because
you want to paint your pet, show it off, then get sick of Neopets and leave.
If you need a picture, maybe some artist will be generous enough to draw you
one.
There are some things about descriptions you ought to know. Chatspeak makes
you look stupid. If you want your voters to think they're voting for someone
who is intelligent enough to notice that they've won and can actually add up
their Neopoints. Saying things like, "please vote for me, it's my first time!"
will immediately alert the sharp voters that this is not your first time,
you just want people to think that since it's your first time, you deserve to
win. This also doesn't work if you already have a beauty contest trophy on your
pet's lookup. Whoopsies. Also, talking in baby talk (i.e. - googoo! Dis ish
mah fewst time in dah booty contest an I wan to win becus my mommy wans ta tell
evewyone how coot I am) will make people vomit. If you talk in all caps (LIKE
THIS) or half-and-half (LiKe ThIs) it will not make you look cool. It will make
people quickly hit the back button and wish they'd never seen your Beauty Contest
page. Begging over and over for people to vote for you will increase frustrations
and make people want to destroy you. Myself included.
The Beauty Contest board should be abolished, I'll tell you that right off.
People trade votes (which isn't very fair to good art, if you ask me), trade
votes for items, beg like poor little puppy dogs, and pretend they're just too
weak to continue trying. Boohoo! Do you see those tears? I'm laughing too hard
at you people.
People like me tend to look down on people who use their big guilds to win
the Beauty Contest (unless the artwork is actually good and/or not a cut-and-paste).
Why? If your artwork was really good, you wouldn't need your gigantic
guild to back you up.
Now for a little more explanation: I've been talking about cut-and-pastes
throughout this entire article. What are they? Cut-and-pastes use Neopets images
that they mess up and add on to just to make it look more original. They 99%
of the time look devastatingly ugly. Many people just use them in the place
of real art simply to receive a trophy and some Neopoints, but it'll send whatever
reputation you may have soaring out the window.
Vote trades are when someone sends you their Beauty Contest URL and asks for
you to vote for their pet and send your vote number and your Beauty Contest
URL back.
Vote numbers are the number that you voted. Before you vote, there will be
a big thing that looks like:
Moonstriken currently has 147 votes
After you click the 'Vote for Moonstriken', it will say something like:
Moonstriken currently has 148 votes
The number of votes after you clicked the vote button (in this case,
148) would be the number that you'd send. Unfortunately, vote trades are not
reliable and are often not fair to a lot of people. And for anyone with half
a brain, Moonstriken will not always be the person you're voting for.
If you're wondering where I get all this "artists hate you" talk is because
I happen to be acquainted with plenty of them and I am a (bad) one, myself.
If you don't notice that a lot of artists are saying that you're an annoying
gnat (directed not necessarily to every reader) who can't even send an art request,
well, now you know. Artists are very touchy, and some really nasty ones will
even get angry if you so much as use a requested picture in the Beauty Contest.
I, personally, don't see anything wrong with doing that (not everyone can draw
enough to use their art), but that's just me. I don't seem to matter much.
So, now that you have a little of my anger and insight on this wonderful event
called the Beauty Contest, go frolic about and do exactly what I hate. That
is, after all, why you read this article.
More Weird Notes: This is my own opinion. I am very bitter about the Beauty
Contest, especially when I see rude people and those that use cut-and-paste
pictures or chatspeak winning. Please take other people's views into consideration
and not think: This person thinks differently than me! THEY MUST BE PUNISHED!
Because that does not make you look cool. |
