Note to readers: In response to some Neomails I got,
I'd like to say that all of these recipes are real and you can make them
at home! :) Thanks for reading! It means a lot.
"Hello, and welcome once again to Neopian Cuisine! I'm
your host, as always, Calianja the Acara! Unfortunately, our scheduled
guest couldn't make it here today due to a bad case of the Neopox. We
wish him a speedy recovery and hope he'll be back to join us soon! So,
today, we have a special surprise for you! We're going to make two of
Neopia's favorite cinnamon treats, Churros and Cinnamon Swirls! I think
we'll start off by making the dough. The same dough recipe is used for
both of these delicious deserts. So, for the dough, you will need:
2 1/2 cups all-purpose Flour
1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
1 Package(about 2 tablespoons) Fast Acting Yeast
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cup Hot water (125-130 Degrees F or 107-112 degrees C)
2 tablespoons Vegetable or Canola Oil
Add all of the ingredients to a large mixing bowl. Mix
them together well. Knead the dough on a hard, floured surface until smooth,
about 5-7 minutes. Take some extra vegetable or canola oil and well oil
a large bowl, it can be the same one you used to mix the ingredients together.
Place the dough into the well oiled bowl and put a little oil on the dough.
Cover with a clean towel and set in a warm place to rise until it doubles
in size. This should take about 1-1 1/2 hours. Now, after this commercial
break, I'll give you the recipe for cinnamon sugar and we'll make our
Churros and our Cinnamon Swirls."
AFTER COMMERCIAL BREAK....
"Welcome back everybody! OK, now its time to make the
Cinnamon sugar. All you need to do is in a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup sugar
and 1/4 cup cinnamon. And there's your Cinnamon Sugar! Now, For your Churros,
you will need:
The prepared dough
The Cinnamon Sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F(407 degrees C). After
you beat your egg in a small bowl, divide the dough, into 12 sections.
Make each one into a long rope. Put it into the egg mixture, then put
it in the cinnamon sugar until it is covered by the mixture. Place the
ropes side by side on a greased cookie sheet. Bake them for about 5-10
minutes, or until cripsy and brown. Now, don't they sound delicious? OK,
and now for the Cinnamon Swirls! You will need:
The Prepared Dough
The Cinnamon Sugar
1/2 cup(8 tablespoons) melted butter
Raisins, optional
Take your dough and lay it out on a floured surface.
Take a rolling pin and pat with flour to prevent dough from sticking to
it. Roll out the dough until it is about 1/4 inch thick. Spread the melted
butter all over the top, then put on the Cinnamon Sugar and the desired
amount of raisins. Starting at one end, carefully start to roll the dough
up into a log. After it's rolled up, cut the log into sections about 1
1/2 inches thick. Lay them side by side in a greased baking pan and bake
them for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Now, like me, some
of you out there may like icing on our cinnamon swirls and not just plain,
am I right? Well, for those of you who do, here's a recipe for great icing!
You will need:
3 tablespoons Confectioner's (AKA 10x powdered) Sugar
1 tablespoon milk
In a small bowl, just mix these ingredients together.
You can double this recipe until you have enough of icing and its made
to your liking. You may add cinnamon to the mixture, if you wish, to add
a little extra flavour and colour. Now, all you need is a hot steaming cup
of coffee, and you have yourself the perfect desert, or breakfast! Well,
folks, that's all we have time for today! I'd like to thank, as always,
Health Frog, Breadmaster, and Neopia Fresh Foods for their ingredients,
without them, none of these recipes would be possible! Stay tuned next
week for a special guest, who will remain a secret until then! This is
Calianja the Acara saying thank you for tuning in to this episode of Neopian
Cuisine! Good-bye everybody!"
Will there be another episode of Neopian Cuisine? You'll
just have to tune in next week....
