Another Look at the Scorchy Slots: I'm on Fire!

by gkeeper

Last week, Shalalah offered this advice regarding Scorchy Slots (paraphrased from Issue 65): 1. Save a small allowance to splurge on the slots each week. 2. If you have the option of using the hold boxes after you've had a successful round, using them will guarantee you the same level of success in the next round. 3. Use the hold boxes intelligently.

I would like to make a few more points about this game.

Most importantly, it's a random game. If you play long enough you're going to have cold spells and you're going to have hot streaks. Some people will win a lot, others will always seem to have bad luck. That's just the nature of the slots.

I've found that it's not terribly difficult to have small successes. Besides pulling the slots, you can win Neopoints (and other items) three other ways.

1. Sometimes the image in the slots will have a number. This number will help you advance along a map, located underneath the slots, to the volcano (this is the Feature Bar). When you reach the volcano, it usually erupts. Sometimes you get 1 NP, sometimes you get a handful, sometimes you get 20. Occasionally you get none. To understand exactly how you advance to the volcano, check out the Rules of the Game before you start playing.

2. Random in-game events. A Light Faerie lands next to you and gives you 30 NP. A bag of 50 NPs lands on your foot. Things just happen sometimes.

3. Random NeoPet events. Just like any time, you are still subject to receive the regular random events. A strange man hands you a lottery ticket. You find a codestone laying on the floor. A Poogle passes by and says hi. You find 20 NP laying on the floor. It may just be coincidence (and it probably is), but I've had a lot more of these when I've been playing the slots than I really expected.

Gkeeper's Tips for Success
1. Be prepared to drop around 50-100 NPs on the game. You really do want to play long enough to make the good things happen. You will lose NPs. A flock of Korbats may steal some or a Scorchio may steal some from you. Pick a limit, and when you've spent that many NPs, if things don't seem to be going well, stop playing.

2. Do use the hold buttons intelligently. It's usually not all that helpful to hold just one slot. Although if you have a specific goal (to get a Faerie or a map piece or to win the jackpot), then you should use the hold buttons to your advantage. Forget the two watermelons you have and go for the jackpot.

3. Know the prize value structure. The link is at the top of the page, open it in a new window if you don't have the prize values memorised. If you've got two strawberries and two apples, you need to know which ones to hold.

4. It's a game. When it stops being fun, stop playing. There are certainly easier ways to make NPs.

The chances that the slots will make you a Neomillionaire are slim. For me though, it pays out often enough that I don't get frustrated. If you've got some spare time, I recommend giving the slots a chance.
