Buurin: Hello, I'm a reporter for the Neopian Times and
today we're going to talk to Sutek, the renowned owner of the only bookstore
in the Lost Desert, Sutek's Scrolls. How are you doing today, Sutek?
Sutek: I'm good, glad to be here.
Buurin: Great! Now, let's get started on the questions.
First off all, how did you come up with the idea to open a bookstore in
the Lost Desert? It's certainly a creative idea.
Sutek: Well, that's a long story, really. I used to go to
the bookstore in Neopia Central all the time. One day, shortly after I
moved to the Lost Desert, I found a book hidden in the sand entitled,
"Eye-Sha". When I read it, I was hooked. I searched all over for more
Egyptian literature but I couldn't find any. Suddenly, during an archaeological
dig, many more of these types of books were uncovered. Thousands of them.
Scientists said they had been very popular millions of years ago. As I
am the historian of the Lost Desert, the books were given to me. I went
to the bookstore in Neopia Central to see if they would sell them, because
I wanted to share the joy I got from reading them with all the other Neopians.
But they wouldn't take them because that bookstore only sold new books
and these books were very old and some were in poor condition. So I opened
my own shop to sell them in.
Buurin: That's really fascinating, Sutek. Was the other
bookstore angry that you opened a shop? Did they dislike the competition?
Sutek: No, not at all. All the bookstores in all of Neopia
work together to spread the joy of reading. Also, the bookstore in Neopia
Central gets the business of the Neopians who live their, while those
who inhabit the Lost Desert come to mine and those who live in Faerieland
go to that bookstore. We're all part of a chain, really. We all sell different
kinds of books.
Buurin: Do you get a lot of business? Or do people seem
more interested in buying things other than books, like toys or food?
Sutek: Actually, we get a lot of business. Sure, there are
lots of people who frequent the food stores and toy stores, but there
are lots of people who love the book stores. Also, I was lucky enough
to get a good location, directly south of the popular Scarab 21 game.
People go to play the game and then afterwards come to my store. I always
have some lemonade to share and that helps attract customers.
Buurin: What do you do when the store is empty? Are you
ever bored?
Sutek: Never. When the store is empty, I read. I've read
every book in the store, but I never get tired of reading them again.
Reading is my life. Whenever a customer has a question about a book, they
can count on me to answer it.
Buurin: Do any interesting customers ever shop at your store?
Any famous Neopians?
Sutek: Of course! For instance, Fernypoo from Cheat! is
often around here, since she's helping Brucey B. with his missing lost
coin and they're always in this area. I've also seen the Faerie Queen
in here, she loves reading also and likes to bring books from other worlds
back to Faerieland to read to the children up there.
Buurin: I have one final question: if there was one book
you could recommend to Neopian citizens, what would it be?
Sutek: Different books are suitable for different people.
Personally, my favourite book is "Sakhmet Natives". Why, you ask? Because
it's all about the most influential people of the Lost Desert...and there's
a full article about me in there! They call me the "Johnny Appleseed"
of books, heh heh. You know, spreading books all around for people to
enjoy. I surely hope you'll check it out, it's on sale all this week at
Sutek's Scrolls, just south of Scarab 21!
Buurin: Thanks for your time, Sutek! Remember, citizens
of Neopia, make sure to check out Sutek's
Scrolls and make your pets smart and happy with some books!
