In front of us was a huge, roundish monster that must've been ten feet tall. It had two two-foot-long fangs and long claws on its four short, plump feet. Dark blue and striped, it had small demon-like wings that obviously couldn't get it off the ground. Its face had two staring, evil eyes, a catlike mouth with a sly smile. It had two fat horns out of its head, and a tiny skull-like mark on his forehead.

"The-the-the--" started Shanter.

"Bellllllli---" I continued.

"Hahahaha..." the beast laughed in a deep tone. I still couldn't believe my eyes. But I had to do something.

"Pleeeeeaaaasse, Mr. Belligo, please don't eat us!!"

"Eat you?" questioned the Belligo.

Then I realised that he was confused. Maybe he didn't eat people or pets. Maybe he was just a lonely monster who needed a friend.

I said, "You...you aren't going to eat us? Oh, I'm so relieved. I..."

"OF COURSE I'M GOING TO EAT YOU!!!" I fell back onto the ground. So much for that idea.

The Belligo grinned. "I didn't trap you here so I could lecture you. I am the Belligo. Trickier than the Spider Queen, more fearsome than the Swamp Ghoul. The scourge of the Haunted Woods. And I love eating little Gelerts and Myncis like YOU..."

"Hey!" I said. "I'm not a Mynci! I'm a human!" The Belligo frowned. Maybe that was it. He couldn't eat a human. I smiled, and got off the ground. Then, the Belligo picked up his giant paw and gently pushed me. I fell back onto the ground.

"Good. Humans are even better." So much for that idea, too. I was a little angry that I was mistaken for a Mynci. "Shanter!" I hollered. "Attack!"

Shanter looked at me, still shivering. "Are you CRAZY?! Look at him. How'm I supposed to beat THAT?!"

"Look, I'm the owner here, and I order you to attack!"

I was getting madder. "Shanter, you've got to-" Just then, the Belligo backed up. He burst out running and rammed Shanter. The poor Gelert slammed into a tree at the other end of the area. Oh, how I wished I had just waited for the next train!

"Shanter! You have to fight back!"

"Owwwww..."

The Belligo stormed over the Shanter, who was just getting up. Before Shanter could dodge, the monster picked him up and slammed him onto the ground. "Shanter!" I shouted again. "Scratch him!" I was amazed that my Gelert finally got the strength to make a blind slash. It left a red mark across the skull mark on the Belligo's forehead.

"WHY YOU LITTLE..."

I watched helplessly as the Belligo leaped up in the air and body slammed Shanter. I knew then he had no chance of beating him. We were doomed. "Shanter!"

There was no reply. He was knocked out. The Belligo cackled. He trotted toward me. I was extremely frightened. Not thinking, I got up and took off running. The only exit was where I came, so I ran out there. I dashed as fast as I could. Fortunately for me, it wasn't chasing me. I wondered why. Then I stopped running. I couldn't just leave my beloved Gelert there. Shanter was my best friend. How could I abandon him like that?

I turned around and ran back. I had no idea what I would do. I spotted the opening in the woods and ran faster. Bounding in, I saw the Belligo with his back turned on me. I ran up to him and kicked him as hard as I could.

"Hey, you big, fat, stupid monster! Turn around and fight! I know Karate!" I yelled. The Belligo turned around and eyed me, but I didn't budge. I didn't see Shanter behind him. Had he eaten my pet??
