The Lupe Pack

by elizabeth2010

My favorite NeoPet is a Lupe. I had only been up close to pet Lupes and I really wanted to see a wild Lupe. So one day I took my Lupes, Padfoote, Mooniiee, and Serebaye up to the cold northern Neopia. My Lupes pulled sleds. They were strong and fast and it was a really fun ride! At night we camped on a mountain and would hear the distant howls of a Lupe pack. Oh I wished I could see them up close!

One day, when we were hiking up a mountain, I saw a large white wild Lupe. It was huge. It was much, much bigger than a pet Lupe. Unfortunately, my Lupes started barking and scared it away. I didn't have a chance to have a good look at it. That night, I saw amber eyes glowing in the darkness. Padfoote started to bark like crazy. Suddenly, I heard a howl and soon more howls rang through the wilderness. I realized that I was surrounded by wild Lupes.

I turned on a flashlight and yes, there they were. I could see white Lupes, blue Lupes, fire Lupes, and there were even some colors that pet Lupes couldn't be such as gray and brown. They were magnificent animals with thick coats and amber eyes and bushy tails. I could see the alpha male and female. The alpha male was a white Lupe and the female, blue. The beta male and female were both gray. I could see the pups too. They were gray and blue and white. And I listened to the pack when they howled all night long.

The next morning I got to see the pack better. My Lupes were barking and yipping at them and trying to invite them to play. The six pups played with each other a lot. My favorite pup was a blue female who liked to play fight. She didn't win many times, but she was good at fighting. I think the most exciting Lupes to see were the alpha male and female. They were the most powerful Lupes in the pack. I saw one day when a Lupe lower ranked than the alphas did something wrong to the alpha male, the alpha male snarled and pinned the lower ranking Lupe to the ground. The lower ranking Lupe stood up with his ears flattened and tail tucked between his legs and slunk away. The Lupe pack behaved very much like a wolf pack.

But then there was that sad day when the pack was attacked. I suddenly heard snarling and saw a pack of Gelerts (I didn't know whether they were wild or tame) rush at the pack. The alpha male tried to charge at them to get them out but the Gelerts attacked him. Luckily, he was not hurt badly. The alpha female tried to hide the pups but she couldn't do it very well. I tried to scare the Gelerts but they wouldn't notice me.

Suddenly, Mooniiee barked and to my horror I saw a frail Lupe on the ground. I tried to throw something at the Gelerts but I missed them. The pack was fighting as hard as they could but they were losing. I couldn't watch any longer. It was even worse than a fight in the Battledome. More Lupes were being attacked and I couldn't do anything to make the Gelerts go away. Soon, after what seemed like a long time, there was silence.

On the ground I could see the alpha male and female, barely alive. Next to the alpha female were the pups. I rushed over to them and they let me come. Padfoote, Mooniiee, and Serebaye followed me. I could see that both alphas were badly attacked. The only thing I could do was take care of them the best I could. I knew that if I wanted them to recover quickly I would have to bring them to the Neopian Hospital as fast as I could. So I put them and the pups onto the sled and packed my things. Soon we were ready to go.

When we got to the Neopian Hospital, I found out that the alpha male and female were badly wounded and needed help as soon as possible. The pups weren't badly hurt. I knew why. It was because the alpha male and female were protecting the pups. I wanted to keep one of the Lupe pups. I picked my favorite one and named her Chetan87. And I will tell more about her in another story (if I write one).

I will always remember living with the Lupe pack. I hope that someday I will once again hear the howl of the wild Lupe ring through the forest.

The End
