The sun peeked over the tall mountains on the mystical world of Neopia.
The birds sang and the town began to awaken after a long winter nap. The
sun warmed their bodies, filling them with joy of a fresh new spring.
It was truly a wonderful day.
Star the blue Shoyru was still asleep when her alarm clock sounded early
in the morning. It was a whole hour later when her blue eyes finally flickered
open with a start. Today was a school day! She bustled out of her home
and flew to her school hoping not to be late.
Star luckily made it to her class on time, but she forgot about a big
test that she had to take. After that the lesson was on boring stuff such
as Multiplication, Velocity, and a city that she didn't know that it existed.
At recess Star was enjoying a game of Gormball when she saw a little
Kougra being picked on by a Skeith. She became angry and walked over to
see what she could do to help.
"You want your PetPet? Huh?" taunted the cruel Skeith. It held the Kougra's
pet above it's head.
The Kougra wailed, "Sammy! I want my Sssssaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmyyyyyy!!!"
"Leave him alone!" angrily shouted Star.
"Make me!" sneered the Skeith.
With that it shot into the sky with the PetPet in it's claws. Star rocketed
into the sky behind it. Suddenly the Skeith dropped the pet. Star shot
like an arrow after it, but it was falling too fast. She broke into a
dive. The ground got nearer, nearer. She rolled over and caught it. Then
she hit the ground. The last thing she felt was a sharp pain on her left
wing.
White. White was all around her. She moaned and tried to sit up. A sharp
pain shot through her wing.
"Now don't you try to sit up yet, miss. You need some rest."
Star came completely to her senses. She was in the hospital and the doctor
was hovering over her like a fly.
"W..what happened?" she asked in a daze.
The doctor frowned. "Well, I'm sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but
you have broken your wing when you fell. You will never be able to fly
again."
If there was one thing Star loved the most that would be flying. She
loved the feeling of wind on her wings, the ability to see things from
a birds eye view, and to dance with the birds in the sky. When she was
little she spent hours flying around in little circles.
Star started to sob. She cried and cried and cried. She was crippled.
She would never be able to fly again. These words hurt her very much.
Star had a dream that night. The dream was about flying. She flew with
dragons Pegasus, and creatures that she never thought she could create.
She flew with such grace and beauty. She sang out so happily. She had
the time of her life.
She woke up to a throbbing pain in her wing and the hurtful reality burning
in her mind. She rode to school on a wing supporting wheel chair rather
than flying. She hated the other pets for staring at her and snickering
at her behind her back. At recess things just got worse.
"Oh look at Miss. Goody Goody! She can't fly! HAHAHA!" teased the cruel
Skeith.
Star glared at him angrily.
"She can't fly! NA NA Bo Bo!" teased the Skeith in a singsong voice.
"Stop it!" roared the once picked on Kougra behind Star.
"What are you gonna do? Cry for your Mommy?"
"No. Stop making fun of her because she's my FRIEND!" growled the Kougra.
Star stared at the Kougra in shock. She had never had a friend before,
and she never thought she would have one. Why was the Kougra risking being
made fun of just to save her?
The Skeith angrily stalked away and growled, "I'll deal with you next
time!"
"Thanks," star said softly.
"No problem," the red Kougra replied.
"What's your name? I'm Star," Star questioned.
"Safari Fire," shyly replied the Kougra.
"Nice to meet you," Star said.
"Mean bullies. They think they just have to ruin everyone's life. My
Mom once told me that if you wish upon a star real hard you can make anything
happen. I've tried to make them not exist, but it didn't work," Growled
Safari Fire at the Skeith's back. Suddenly Star had an idea.
That night Star went outside and picked out the brightest star then
wished real hard that she would be able to fly again. Then, feeling satisfied,
she went to bed.
That night she woke up with a start. She heard something Scream! She
rolled out of her home and into the direction of the cry "Don't hurt me
PLEASE!!!!"
Star peeked from behind a tree into the field. Safari Fire was cowering
before the Skeith, who had a cruel smirk on his face.
"Who do you think you are, runt? No one picks on me! I'll teach you a
lesson about that!" the Skeith snarled.
Star watched helplessly. Safari's words echoed in her head. "She's my
FRIEND! She's my FRIEND! She's my FRIEND!" Star trembled with anger. The
stars above her glowed brighter than ever. In a single step she stepped
off her wheelchair. The stars combined and created a ball of brilliant
pulsing light. Suddenly Star flew into the sky. She was flying on wings
of celestial glory! Suddenly she realized she wasn't alone. A dragon,
Pegasus and all the creatures form her dream were by her side. They dove
and they flew around the Skeith and his friends. Safari stared on in awe.
The Skeith and his friends screamed in fear then ran away crying" MOMMY!"
Star alighted in front of Safari and they both stared at her glowing
wings in awe. The light from her wings shot up into the sky and turned
into stars once more. Star wasn't upset; she had what she really needed.
She needed a friend, and a friend she had.
