Up on the big oak tree in the centre of the Neopia forest, a young, yellow
Shoyru and a blue Kacheek played games together. They swung from branch
to branch like little cheeky monkeys, and landed on top of a high branch
from one mighty swing. This branch cracked as the two friends heard a
noise. Holding the Kacheek, he leapt onto another branch and clutched
on with his tail. The cracked branch fell, and in shock the young Shoyru
dropped Kacheek.
"YIKES!!!!" the Shoyru cried. He flapped his wings and flew underneath
to rescue his friend. Then he swooped down to earth when he heard a deafening
noise. A huge, yellow Skeith appeared in front of them. Shoyru stood firm
and glowered. He growled as the Skeith glowered back at him.
"Stand back, fella," Shoyru said, determined. "This fight is MINE!" At
once he took to the skies and flew around the angry Skeith. Then he swooped
down and bladed a sharp wing strike. The Skeith dodged. Shoyru gasped
as he landed onto the ground.
"Hah!" yelled the Skeith. "If you've got a vacation coming up, it's MINE!"
The Skeith lunged at Shoyru. Shoyru screamed and dodged the attack. The
Skeith quickly turned around and whizzed in midair on its wings, aiming
at Shoyru.
"OWWW!" screeched Shoyru. Collapsing out of the air, it was Kacheek's
turn to fight. He lifted himself up and threw his body at the Skeith.
SLAM! The Skeith was slightly bruised, but still very determined.
The Kacheek flew back and pounded into the ground.
"I don't have a vacation!" Shoyru screamed. "Why are you trying to spoil
our lives for something you think is true which isn't!" Getting up slowly,
Shoyru shook fists at the Skeith.
The Skeith was very angry at the Shoyru for butting in his battle. Shoyru
backed away, but then charged at the Skeith, using his head as a hard
weapon.
POW! The Skeith flew backward and rolled over. Slowly, but surely, it
began to stir. Shoyru backed up, and charged again, full force. The Skeith,
looking dazed, suddenly reacted by moving out of the way. Shoyru, who
was suspended in mid air, flying straight towards a tree, looked ahead
and panicked. He tried to fly, but no matter how much he flapped his wings
he could not gain control. The mad Skeith ran behind Shoyru and opened
its mouth wide.
"HELLLLLLP!" screamed Shoyru. At once, the Kacheek ran as fast as he
could to reach Shoyru. With a great thrust he threw himself in front of
the Skeith and pelted Shoyru out of the way. Shoyru fell to the ground
with a thud. Kacheek stood firm in front of the Skeith. It ran around
the Skeith several times with a burst of super speed. The Skeith spun
around, trying to catch him. As a strike almost hit, the Kacheek ducked
underneath and jumped up high. Dazed, the large creature collapsed, and
fainted. Shoyru, who was very weak now, stood up slowly.
"Don't get up!" warned Kacheek. But Shoyru refused to get back down.
He charged at the Skeith one more time, wings flapping, head aiming at
the Skeith's body.
"NOOO!" screamed the Kacheek. Terror struck, and scared, he fainted.
The brave Shoyru closed in on the creature.
SLAM!! Shoyru's head slammed into the body of the creature. The
Skeith made no move, but Shoyru was standing up, legs trembling with weakness.
He collapsed.
Kacheek got up slowly, then hurried over to Shoyru's motionless body.
"Poor Shoyru!" he cried. "He was so determined to get that Skeith!" He
applied several bandages to Shoyru's injuries all over his body. The Skeith
was knocked out badly, so Shoyru and Kacheek had done a great job, but
that battle was far from friendly. Shoyru had badly hurt his wing, so
badly that it was nearly broken. Just then, a chirpy red Shoyru flew down
from a nearby tree. It held a milkshake and a large burger in its talons.
The Shoyru's expression changed to a sob when he saw Shoyru battered
and in bandages. He cried and dropped his food.
"Oh, dear, what have you done?!" he yelled in shock at Kacheek. "Why
did you batter the poor thing up like that?!"
"Oh, yeah right!" the Shoyru scowled at him.
"Don't you dare blame me!" Kacheek backed away from the Shoyru and shouted
at him. "I tried to defend him, but he went to finish the Skeith off!"
Shoyru opened his eyes and got up slowly.
"I'll be...be all r... right, don't w..w..worry," Shoyru stammered weakly.
The red Shoyru stood in front of him.
"That wasn't a very good thing to do," he explained firmly, "you almost
had yourself killed!" Shoyru looked hurt as he said this. His eyes brimmed
with tears.
"But we were about to be killed anyway," he screamed at him, "we were
about to be EATEN!!!!!" The red Shoyru gasped.
"Speaking of eating," he continued, voice falling, "the only reason why
I was so weak was because I was very hungry at the time!" The red Shoyru
looked about him to find the double burger he had dropped. Suddenly, a
green Meerca bounced along on his tail and swiped it before the Shoyru
could grab it.
"You little thief!" screamed Kacheek angrily. "Shoyru needs that food!"
"Eheeeeheeeeehhee!" cried the cheeky Meerca. Shoyru could not stand this
anymore. He reached out with his arm and grabbed at the Meerca's tail.
"EEEEEEEK!" it squealed. It now became angry and very annoyed. Shoyru
shook his head and faced the Meerca, growling fiercely, wings standing
on end. The Meerca saw this and shrieked.
"EEEEEEEEEEE!" Shoyru pulled at its tail again to get back the burger.
But the Meerca quickly turned around, mouth open wide and clammed shut
on Shoyru's arm. Whining in pain and growling in anger Shoyru watched
as the Meerca bounced away. Then, Kacheek thought of a plan. He scurried
quickly but quietly behind the Meerca's back. Then, he grabbed its tail.
The Meerca turned round to bite, but Kacheek dodged the bite and put its
tail in the way.
"Gotcha!" teased Kacheek, grabbing the Meerca by its legs and dragging
it back toward a pine tree. Then he used its tail as a rope that he tied
around the creature's body to the tree.
"That'll teach you not to steal from US!" Kacheek jeered, ignoring the
constant snarls and growls coming from the Meerca. He picked up the food
and zoomed back to feed the hungry Shoyru, but on the way he stumbled
and fell to the ground, losing grip of the burger. The burger was sent
flying into the back of the knocked out Skeith, who, having given some
potion, got up slowly and turned around to face Kacheek. Kacheek dashed
to grab the food but then the Skeith threw something at him. Panic-stricken,
Kacheek dodged the blow while running with the burger. The Skeith gathered
more ammo, and threw it like a gunshot, spiraling towards its victim.
Kacheek dodged to one side as one shot was thrown. Then, as another shot
was thrown, he dodged to the other side. Then he ducked underneath a shot,
then leaped into the air to avoid a ground-shot. The Skeith then chased
Kacheek, running at an incredible rate. Kacheek turned in a panic and
ran around the Skeith, still holding the burger. The Skeith opened its
mouth and flew at Kacheek. Kacheek threw himself out of the way. By now
the burger was breaking. Kacheek clung onto it with desperation. Then
the Skeith lunged at him again. Flying at mach speed, towards Kacheek,
he flew right past, as Kacheek threw his body at its side. SLAM! Finally,
the Skeith collapsed onto a heap on the ground.
"Right, now for Shoyru!" he gasped, virtually breathless. He gripped
the burger tightly and ran as fast as he could until he finally reached
Shoyru. Terror-struck at what he just saw, he walked slowly up towards
him.
"NO!" he cried, staring at Shoyru's motionless body lying on the ground.
He dropped the burger in fright as he saw him on the ground, fainted.
He looked at the red Shoyru and saw a stream of tears flowing from his
eyes.
"Why were you so late getting back!?!" he screamed, even more tears falling
from his eyes and onto the wounded and dying Shoyru. Kacheek presented
the wrecked burger before the red Shoyru, and at once he dried up.
"It's a bit broken-" Kacheek began.
"I don't care!" the red Shoyru screamed in excitement. "If you've got
it back, then we can at least feed him it now!" He gripped hold of Shoyru's
body and pulled him up and placed him on his feet. Carefully, he peeled
open his eyes. Shoyru blinked, and made an attempt to get back down again
but the red Shoyru refused to let him.
"Uhhh.. what?" he murmured. He closed his eyes as the red Shoyru opened
his mouth open and placed bits of the burger in it, and closed his mouth.
Shoyru felt the food in his mouth and began chewing fiercely.
"Mmmmmmmmm!" he murmured contentedly. "Thank you guys, I was literally
starving to death!" he cried in joy. "You are my best friends I've ever
had, and you'll always be!"
As he munched on the burger, happy bursts of tears spilled down his cheeks.
"This is a good filling, and worth it, too! Hey, what's wrong?" Spotting
a look of sadness on the two friends, Shoyru's wings drooped and so did
his face. He did not like to see friends look like that when they have
both saved his life.
"Please," he pleaded. "Be happy. After all, I am your best friend, and
you just saved me."
"It's not that," Kacheek said gloomily, "the Skeith has recovered, and
we're not letting you go back into battle, even to save OUR lives!"
"Then why don't we just go away, somewhere safe?" suggested Shoyru. "On
vacation!" The two friends looked thoughtful.
"You said it!!" yelled the red Shoyru, leaping up in the air and flapping
his wings in joy.
"What exactly is your name?" asked the now bright and happy yellow Shoyru.
"Before I ran away from my owner, he called me Shoyruman," explained
the Shoyru, "but I've changed it to Wingman as a shorter name. I don't
like Shoyruman, anyway. I told my owner this but he didn't listen, he
just gagged me, the idiot! Okay, back to the point!" Wingman continued.
"Where can we go for a vacation?" Wingman looked especially at Shoyru,
but Shoyru just shook his head and shrugged his shoulders. Wingman sighed
and sat down.
"You mean, this poor Shoyru went through all of that trouble of fighting
the Skeith for NOTHING?!!!?" the now angry Kacheek sprung into the air
and screamed in a shrill voice. His body turned red with rage. He turned,
faced the Skeith and mocked him with his fists. "I'm not letting my friend
have to go through all that, thank you very much!"
"I know!" Wingman shouted to get Kacheek's attention. "Try getting someone
to adopt us!"
"What if no one does?"
"Oh, for Grarrl's sake!!" Wingman growled, swearing under his breath.
Then he continued.
"Force somebody to!" he explained in a quiet voice. "Everyone forces
US to do things, like those stupid hum-"
"Don't you DARE say the word 'human' in a bad way like that!" Kacheek
scowled, stamping his foot on the ground, causing a shockwave. "MY owner
was very nice to me, thank-you-very-much! But he was killed, so I never
saw his face again!" Kacheek sobbed. "You don't even know how it feels!"
"I didn't mean those humans!" Wingman glowered.
"Ay, ay, don't start fighting again!" Shoyru tutted when Kacheek rose
a fist at Wingman to stop him swearing at him. "I know, I do need a vacation,"
he told them, "but the last thing I want is for you two to argue about
it for so long that eventually I don't get one that I need to relax all
these pains!" He broke down sobbing. "Will you please think of something,
before more enemies threaten us!?"
"Well," explained Wingman, "I could carry you in my paws and Kacheek
standing on my back and we'll find a vacation of our own! That all right?"
Shoyru looked at him questioningly. He didn't know what to do, but he
had to take a break seeing as he was still badly hurt and weakened.
"Well, we could try that," Shoyru said quietly, "but we have to get somewhere
safe and comfortable. Don't go in a dump."
"Oh, trust me!" Wingman scowled, annoyed. Shoyru gripped onto Wingman's
paws, Kacheek clambered onto Wingman's back and Wingman flapped his wings.
Soon they lifted off the ground.
"Aggh!" yelped Kacheek, almost losing his footing on Wingman's back.
"Stay still!" Wingman boomed.
No offense," Shoyru explained, rather scared, "but not all Shoyrus are
as short-tempered as you are."
"WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY!?" squealed Wingman in anger.
"No...offense..." stammered Shoyru, face brimming with tears, "but...not...all...Shoyrus...are...are...oh
all right! I'm sorry I said that! But it's true, and as a friend, at first,
I thought you were very nice..." Scared of speaking any longer, Shoyru
collapsed onto the ground in shock and tears fell down from his eyes and
into the ground. Then, he got up and turned away from Wingman and Kacheek
and started walking slowly away from them.
"Shoyru!" cried Wingman, tears starting to spill from his eyes. "I didn't
mean to get annoyed. Please come back!" Shoyru walked a little quicker
but cried even more. He still walked further away each time they shouted.
"Shoyru, please come back!" screamed Kacheek. "Please, you can't leave
me!" That was it, thought Kacheek. He won't get away once he's seen me
do this! And at once Kacheek sprung into action. He dashed as fast as
he could to reach Shoyru, who was now running to get away from them. Then
Shoyru paused as Kacheek ran in front of him. Then he started running
circles around the rather stunned Shoyru.
"Hey, Shoyru!" shouted a voice coming from the rings that Shoyru saw.
Each time he looked he saw three Kacheeks. Next, he saw four. Then five.
Six. Seven. Then, he counted eight! Then Kacheek dashed away from him
as fast as he could. Now he quickly turned and dashed back towards the
confused creature. Quickly moving to left, right, left, right, left, right
and middle. Shoyru spun round. He was truly amazed at Kacheek's skills.
Then, finally, he drew to a close.
"Brill!" Shoyru cried with delight. Kacheek's face fell. "What's wrong?"
he asked. "Your agility was so cool!"
"You refused to come back!" he cried, sobbing out loud. "Just because
you were mad with him doesn't mean you should be mad with ME!!!" Kacheek
screamed, tears were falling onto Shoyru. Shoyru thought for a moment.
If, usually, Shoyrus were treated badly, those moments would never be
forgotten. But my friends! They saved my life! And Wingman, although he
was edgy I must admit he still is a good friend; I can understand he's
having a hard time because Kacheek was annoying him before, but not meaning
it. Perhaps it was just because I was not being very nice either. So I've
got to stay, because I wasn't any culprit of nastiness, it was me that
started it! Thinking this, Shoyru burst out into tears.
"I only hope Wingman's forgiven me," he sobbed, "because I treated him
badly, he didn't treat me badly!"
"He's forgiven you all right," Kacheek told him.
"How do you know for sure?" Shoyru cried. "He could have that nasty remark
in his head forever!" Shoyru ran towards Wingman as fast as he could go.
"Oh, Wingman, wait!!!" screamed Shoyru. "Please, forgive me! I didn't
mean to say that nasty remark about you! Forget it, please?" Wingman turned
at stared at Shoyru.
"What's that got to do with it?" asked Wingman, puzzled. Shoyru was even
more puzzled at his attitude. "I may be a Shoyru, but I'm very unlike
others. The same applies with you, young buddy." Shoyru was more puzzled
than ever. He'd hurt his feelings by running away and Wingman lost his
temper but those were still worth forgetting. So that was why he was puzzled,
because no Shoyru would ever do that! "Don't you understand why these
are worth forgetting?"
"They aren't worth it," started Shoyru.
"What?" Wingman gasped in terror.
"Why wouldn't you have understood me?" asked Wingman, puzzled.
"I'm a unique Shoyru!" he continued. "Millions of others will share the
same personalities. They are very hot-tempered and will never forget wrongdoings.
But now you've got me. Why shouldn't I share those personalities against
you? Because you are my best friends and you had saved my life!"
"You're so very young to be as wise as that," Wingman told him.
"I was only afraid you would have hurt me when you lost your temper.
I didn't run away on purpose." Shoyru explained. "All I wanted was a vacation
where I could relax, now I'm getting tired from running and my legs hurt
again."
"I'm sorry we were bickering," spluttered Wingman, "but now we're back
to the point. It's dangerous here, and the last thing we want is you getting
killed in fierce battles. So we need somewhere to stay. Right, no fuss,
get on my back, Kacheek!"
Kacheek lifted one foot and scowled. What gave him the right to give
orders now? he thought angrily. Wingman bent down as Kacheek grumpily
stepped onto his back and fell down on his front. Shoyru waved a finger
at him in the 'no, don't do that' sort of way. Kacheek stopped his temper
and clutched on tight. Then it was Shoyru's turn.
Wingman flapped his wings and slowly lifted himself in the air. Then
after a few seconds they were soaring as Wingman flapped his wings even
faster, now so fast you could not see them.
"Is that why you called yourself Wingman?!" Shoyru gasped in amazement.
The team were now flying very fast indeed. They had left the big oak tree
by which they were living. Suddenly Shoyru caught out of the corner of
his eye, with extreme shock, the big, mean yellow Skeith fly alongside
them. It growled fiercely.
"Oh, no you don't!" Kacheek scowled, standing straight on Wingman's back,
angrily clenching his fists. Wingman toppled his back so that Kacheek
flew and hit the Skeith full force. After the blow had hit, Wingman charged
at it with his wing and struck it with a whizz of super speed. Kacheek,
who was standing on top of the injured Skeith, then leaped up and grabbed
onto Wingman's back as he flew past.
"Phew!" Wingman gasped, still flapping his wings. He turned and zipped
into warp speed, flapping his wings at a super rate.
"Woah!" Kacheek squeaked, wobbling as he clutched onto Wingman as tightly
as he could. Shoyru was being dragged back by the force of the wind.
"Be careful!" he screamed. "Don't drop me!"
"I'm holding on as tight as I can!" Wingman stammered, exhausted. Very
soon he slowed down, holding Shoyru for all his worth. Then, finally,
he stalled and fell out of the sky.
"I'll take over!" Shoyru yelled happily. Grabbing hold of the exhausted
Shoyru's body and with Kacheek squashed in between, he slowly flapped
his wings to slow down the fall. Despite feeling very dizzy and tired,
Shoyru slowly reached the ground and dropped his friends in a heap on
the ground.
"Oh, boy!" Shoyru said weakly, very tired. Wingman shook himself and
stared at the ground with shock. Kacheek got up and tried to walk in a
straight line but failed to do so. Shoyru regained his poise and laughed
at Kacheek with hysterics.
"Oh, Kacheek, have we been drinking?" he giggled as Kacheek fell over
with dizziness.
"No, we're at the perfect place for your vacation, Shoyru!" Kacheek shook
himself. Shoyru stared around him. Suddenly, a coconut fell and landed
just beside Shoyru. Shoyru cut one end of it with the sharp point on his
wing and drank some of its milk. Then as he put the coconut down he looked
all round him, there were twenty trees, full with coconuts, beautiful
gardens filled with flowers, and, as is essential for many vacations,
a beach, hot sun and an ice-cream van run by a yellow Scorchio. Shoyru
lay down by a coconut tree and dozed off.
"Hey Shoyru!" called the Scorchio, waving an ice-cream. "Come over here
and eat, too!" But Shoyru was fast asleep. He felt very content and was
recovering from his injuries.
In the ice-cream van there was a mini television and it fuzzed and switched
on. The image of a lightning bolt wrecking the oak tree near which Shoyru
and Kacheek lived flashed into Wingman's eyes from the TV screen. Another
lightning bolt struck all the surrounding trees and they fell, spreading
fire. If we didn't get him away from there, he thought, he would be dead
by now. This vacation is for the best. But one thing is clear, he'll never
be able to go home again.
The End
