Have you ever felt that you have no life other than NeoPets? I know where
you're coming from. Everyday, as soon as I arrive home, I am straight
down in front of the computer, logged onto AOL, then NeoPets, and checking
out the latest deals at the trading post. Once I've satisfied my curiosity
for what people are asking for totems (I am collecting them for some weird
reason), I click on the link for my guild to check the message board,
then feed and play with my pets.
All very well, you might say, what's wrong with that? Well, I say, then
comes the part when I am online for three or 4 hours - that's a long time
- checking the games, stock market, chat, etcetera, etcetera. Well, OK.
3 or 4 hours? I could handle that...if I had no other life!
Believe me, those of you who have a quiet life, it isn't easy, trying
to fit in revision, homework, music, and tea in amongst that 3 or 4 hours,
and of course, you haven't seen nothing yet!! I am only a lowly year 7 (British
school system). When I go to Uni, or College, then what can I do!? So,
why don't I just spend a little less time on NeoPets... Uh huh. It isn't
that simple!! NeoPets is addictive! If I don't check out my guild, I freak!
I worry if my pet hasn't been fed!! Oh no! Horror of horrors! I haven't
checked the trades. Ahhh, the Neodaq crashed!!!! Sell, sell, or buy?
A fun, entertaining interesting site that's educational too? It's far
too good to be true! How is it educational, anyway? Well, before I came
on NeoPets I didn't even know what HTML stood for! Now, I am the family
whizz! Also, by becoming a rich Neopian, you get great experience on how
the real business world works. How can this amazing site have anything
wrong with it? It doesn't! Well, the site itself doesn't. It's the social
"implications" (posh word there) that aren't so fine and dandy.
But..... I've already talked about them..... duh. I only have one more
thing to say now, so bare with me!
I believe there is ONE important message here: The animal care factor.
Look after your pets... Your NeoPets AND (if you have any) your "real
life" pets. "Don't desert your dog, ignore your iguana or reject your
rabbit" is as much the message as "what about your poor, starving Chia?
Or your beautiful Aisha, slowly fading away because of his Neopox?" Did
you know that serious neglect (of real pets) is a criminal offense? So
having several pets or even just one NeoPet teaches us the responsibility
of taking care of real life pets.
But, of course, by all means, it's OK if your life almost revolves around
Neopia! Mine does! Me and my rabbit are none the worse for it! So, have
fun in Neopia! Just get the balance between virtual and real animals,
and both types could become very rewarding to your life!
