Here are six tips that will really help your shop and get you what
you need and want--NP.
Yeah, okay, don't whine. You don't have as much NP as you want. Go play
a game--you're not lucky. Open a shop--you already have one--is it a good
one? Here are some tips to help you build up that NP power house.
There are several strategies that can be used to create a really good
shop. They don't all work for everyone, it depends on the amount of time
spent on NeoPets. But anyone and everyone can have a good shop. **Okay,
okay, I'll get to the tips.
Do research
It doesn't take long, and will help you in the long run. Let's say, for
example, that you want to sell milk. Okay, that's cool, but are you just
going to put it in your shop for an x amount of NP? You can, but you may
put it in for too little and loose money, or too much and never gain any.
First, go to the Shop Wizard and ask for a listing of milk prices. A list
will come up, and you will see the cheapest prices. Beware, do
not just stop there, the shop wizard doesn't show all of the prices. Hit
the refresh button on your browser three times or more to get a good estimate
on the price that you should sell it for. If you can sell the item for
cheaper than the cheapest price and still make money, go for it. If not,
sell it for an equal or close to amount, it will sell eventually.
Specialize
Many Neopians shop sometimes just for food or just for toys. You can help
them help you! Have a shop that sells mainly one kind of item (food, toys,
PetPets, under 100 NP, and so on). This way, if a person comes to your
shop to buy food, and on the shop wizard you had cheap onion rings, they
may come and buy all of your other foods too, wouldn't that be great!
Beware, do not just have only one type of item. Just because you
specialize in toys, and your shop is called "That little toy shop," doesn't
mean you can't sell an apple, or any other item. In fact, you may loose
money if you do, but then again, you may not.
Have a Contest
It's nice to give away items in your shop. Like maybe have a big ice
cream sale and a random person who bought ice cream will win a book or
something, get creative! Beware, don't have one of those contests
that say, "The person who spends the most will win 20,000 NP; two faeries;
8 codestones; 3 map pieces; and a PetPet." That is just ridiculous. We
all know that you won't give that away, and we won't go and spend as much
as we can just to get that. People don't buy from you just because you
have a contest, they buy because of your prices. Having a contest that
someone wins, though, may bring that person back to buy more.
Keeping your shop: Two Ways
There are two main ways to tend to your shop. You can put one or two items
in there every day or so, and have a small shop(size 2 or 3). The other
way is to restock your shop every week or two and put 20-50 in each time(size
10+). Both work and both have made many rich Neopians. Personally, I have
a size 2 shop, and I try to put one or two things in there about every
day or two. This is the cheaper way, so your prices don't have to be so
high. The other way is more expensive, but less time consuming and it
will draw people in to buy more items at once. Beware, (being a
shopkeeper sure is dangerous) you don't need a size 300 to do this, and
that is just a waste of money and this article won't be able to help you.
At what point in time have you had that many items to sell any way?
Don't just keep your shop in your shop
I know that sounds confusing, but your shop just isn't in your shop. I
consider the auctions part of my shop also. You may be wondering, "this
article sure is an oxymoron, telling us to make a really good shop and
then use the auctions." You can make some money in the auctions, especially
things that don't sell in your shop. Beware, don't just use auctions
to sell things that "don't sell." Try lowering your prices first. The
auctions can be rigged with people biding more NP than they have.
I hope this article was very helpful to you, and I hope you can use this
information. It's worked for me and can work for you. As a first time
Neopian Times author, it would be nice if you could Neomail me with questions
and comments. If you would like more help getting you shop up and running
or to get better, join the Best of Neopian Shops guild. We have tips and
contests, and we will advertise for you. There are probably many other
guilds that do the same, but I don't know about them.
