Phelpy the disco Kyrii awoke on Saturday morning, not knowing the dangerous
adventure that would await her and her friends that day. It was drizzling
rain outside and Phelpy thought that it would be yet another boring weekend.
The last few weekends had been rainy and gloomy. Phelpy's owner had kept
her inside when she was supposed to meet her friend, Keena the split Acara,
in the big meadow just outside town to watch the streak lightning and
take pictures for their school report on lightning. But her owner had
said that she would catch a disease if she went out in the rain.
But, luckily for Phelpy, her owner had left for a weekend trip and left
Phelpy by herself. The fridge was well-stocked with food, and she had
left the back door unlocked.
Phelpy ran outside in the light rain after stocking her backpack with
Chia pops of many different flavors and a few bottles of water. She ran
down the street and quickly reached Keena's house. She knocked on the
door.
"Hi, Phelpy," said Keena. "Why're you here?"
"Do you want to come with me and explore the forest?" grinned Phelpy.
"Sure," said Keena. "Are we getting Forbia?"
"Yeah," said Phelpy. "Come on. I got some Chia pops and water."
Phelpy and Keena happened to meet Forbia (a mutant Kacheek) on the street,
outside the bakery with a bag of cinnamon swirls in her hand.
"Yeah, sure I'll come," said Forbia.
"Well, come on, then!" said Phelpy. Then, they set off for the forest.
They had only reached the first clearing, which Phelpy knew well, and
passed the large pond in the middle of it, when they heard a splashing
sound. Phelpy turned around.
"What was that?" asked Forbia.
"I don't know," said Phelpy, approaching the pond. Then, something that
looked like a Jetsam caught Phelpy by the head and dragged her underwater.
"Phelpy!" yelled Keena, diving underwater. Being an Acara, she was equally
comfortable in water as she was on land, and could see underwater. She
saw the thing, which was really a red Jetsam, dragging Phelpy deeper and
deeper.
Keena broke the surface and called for Forbia to come down. Soon, Keena
and Forbia were swimming downwards after the Jetsam.
Meanwhile, Phelpy was drawing nearer and nearer to a great, shadowy city
in the depths of the pond. The Jetsam was dragging her down towards the
underwater kingdom of the Jetsams.
The Jetsam swam through a doorway, which promptly sealed itself. It flung
Phelpy into a cage in the wall. Phelpy was surprised that there was no
water in this chamber.
The Jetsam threw a bowl of some green, moldy food into the cage and went
into another room. Phelpy tried the stuff. It was gross, so she dug into
her backpack and began eating a blueberry Chia pop.
Then, the Jetsam returned, followed by a female striped Jetsam wearing
a golden crown with jewels adorning it. She looked very irritated.
"What is it now?" she said, sounding even more annoyed than she looked.
Phelpy supposed that she was the Jetsam princess.
"I've caught a prisoner," said the first Jetsam. "What should I do with her?"
"Leave her in there," she snapped. She walked off down a corridor. The
red Jetsam followed, and Phelpy saw him turn left at another door.
Then, as soon as the red Jetsam had closed the door, Forbia and Keena
came through the door, which sealed itself again. They walked over to
the cage and Forbia began to pick the lock.
"How'd this happen?" asked Keena.
"I don't know. I just got grabbed, and, next thing I know, I'm getting
dragged underwater," said Phelpy, jumping out of the cage.
The three pets ran out through the corridor to find another way out.
They eventually ran through an open door and came out into a room of total
darkness.
"What's this?" said Keena. "I can't see any of you."
"It's not like we can see any better," came Forbia's voice.
"Of course you can't!"
A voice came from somewhere, and then a light flickered on in front of
them. They were met with the face of a blue Jetsam.
"Why can't we?" said Phelpy.
"I can't tell you," snapped the Jetsam. "Now get out. Go through the
door you've already got through and you'll be just fine."
"RUN!" yelled Keena.
They tore past the Jetsam and found a barred, metal door at the other
side of the room. The Jetsam yelled and ran after them. Forbia pulled
an ice shard that she had bought from the Icy
Crystal Shop out of her pocket and scratched the Jetsam across
the nose, making him stumble back.
Phelpy took out a hair pin and picked the lock. She finally succeeded
in unlocking it and jumped off into the water. The other two followed.
They finally broke the surface. They clambered out of the pond and ran
back to the town. Surprisingly, none of them were wet.

Phelpy was at home that evening when her owner came home. She had returned
early.
"Did you do anything today, Phelpy?" she asked.
"Nothing much," said Phelpy, grinning. "Just another boring, rainy Saturday."
