The Spy Contract: Part Three

I left the girl's room and went to the first floor. Office space. Everything, unfortunately, was filed away neatly- nothing particularly incriminating left around. Come on! They've got to be doing SOMETHING illegal! People don't live like THAT of their own free will! Most of the offices were locked- some were occupied- but one had a file drop-box attached to the door, which I looked through eagerly. A budget of some kind, detailing food, medical supplies, stocks... and a strange income source marked Other valuing at over 3,000,000 NP. That, of course, proved nothing.

I threw up my hands in frustration. Nothing in this whole place easily available? Am I going to have to wait for a while and start following people through doors? Argh! There has to be something, I thought, as I continued on. I came to a large metal double-door so ominous that it just had to lead to something important. Great, so how do I do this? Can't bust the lock, noise reasons, can't pop out the hinges, can I... wait.

I waited until no one was around, pushed it, and it swung open.

I'm an idiot, I thought to myself, as I descended the stairs into a boiler room converted meeting room, with a lone human at the head of the table talking to eight mean-looking Tyrannian Fire Grarrls.

"...and one day soon, all of Neopia will be ours!" he shouted. "All will come to know the name of Vice_Gasim!"

"BRAUT! BRAUT! BRAUT!" the Grarrls chanted, as if on cue.

"There's someone else here," he said, looking directly at me. WHAT?! I'm invisible and he didn't hear the door. How could he possibly know?! He pulled out a small device from his pocket and pointed it at me, and started speaking a language I didn't understand.

"DELETE FROM PETS!"

Oh no. This is what Wise_Guy meant when he talked about the difference between password thieves and real thieves. This guy must be the latter... I rushed towards him, even though I knew it was futile, as being human makes it impossible for a pet to hurt him.

"WHERE name = Hor-"

He was cut off in mid-sentence when I hit him with an uppercut.

...so that's what the gloves do. The janitor's going to hate me.

The Fire Grarrls were in shock. "WHAT?!" I shouted at them. "YOU WANT SOME TOO?!" They tripped over each other as they rushed out the door. I turned on the communicator- RIGHT wrist, I reminded myself- and called the organisation, taking the thief's device and putting it into my pack.

"There was a thief here, a real one," I told them. "Probably blackmailed all the owners into staying here."

"Good job! Where did he go?"

"Erm... he's still here. Sort of."

"You defeated him?"

"Yeah. I... defeated him." All over the ceiling.

"All right, we'll be there shortly."

They were there immediately, not shortly. I started hearing sirens and a helicopter in twenty seconds, and I went outside (The door was also locked for the inside, but I just tore it open), intentionally bumping into the agent who I had originally contacted.

"I didn't need any of the Battledome stuff," I told him, as he exchanged my weapons back into my pack, taking the organisation's weapons, the communicator, the map, and the hacker's device. He then handed me a Glowing Paintbrush to change me back to what I had been before, and a sack of 500,000 NP, which I cradled to my chest greedily.

"These people were being blackmailed, but what are you going to do about all the evil employees?"

The evil employees were rushing out of the building in fear and confusion.

"Oh, we have someone for that." I noticed several black-clad agents setting up a huge teleporter. A few seconds later, a bluish-white giant snake came out of it. So THAT's how the Snowager gets all that stuff! At this organisation's pay rate, he has the NP to spare. As the creature puked shards of ice onto the unwitting Grarrls, I started laughing, and went off to retrieve something that would make Wise_Guy extremely happy.

One human girl, her Shoyru and Kacheek, and a trip to the Rainbow Pool later, I opened the door to my NeoHome.

"Back already?" Really_Wise_Guy asked.

"Yeah. Will this make you happy?" I asked, tossing the 500,000 NP bag at him.

"Sort of, but not really."

"Then how about this?" I asked, bringing Chris_LaPensomn into the room, her two pets clinging to her shoulders.

"HOW DID YOU--?!"

I only smiled.
