A Disambiguation of Species Healers & Freezers by violetsigh
--------
Healing and freezing items are incredibly useful and crucial aspects to a great battledome set. Healing items recover your hit points, and freezing items stun your enemy for one turn, preventing them from making any move against you! And while they act mostly as support items, neither dealing damage nor shielding from your opponent's blows, their effects can help you turn the tides of a battle or outlast your enemies. For those just starting out in the Battledome, it may quickly become evident that, in order to use the best healer and freezing items, you will need a lot of NP. But have no fear, there's a cheaper alternative! This guide will help you find alternative battle items that are just as effective as some of those unbelievably pricey healers and freezers, but can be bought for only a fraction of the cost. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The best, most versatile hit point healers, such as the Bag of Healing Dust and the Leaded Elemental Vial, cost many millions of neopoints and are difficult to buy from the Neopets main shops. So, for the battledomer on a budget, it would be more cost-efficient to simply morph your beloved battle pet into a species that is capable of using a species-specific healer. What are species specific healers? They are pieces of battledome equipment which, when used, can recover your pet's lost hit points (HP). And because HP is the determining factor of whether you win or lose or draw in the battledome, it would be wise to equip a good one to your pet before going into battle! Similarly, the most effective and versatile freezer, the H4000 Helmet, is very pricey and costs several millions of neopoints, or from your fellow Neopets players. A Neopets player who wishes to include a particularly effective freezer in their battle set may instead opt for a species freezer, which can be significantly cheaper than the H4000 Helmet. To help facilitate the decision-making process for which species you should morph your pet into (if at all), here is a disambiguation of the species healers and freezers that are currently available, along with a comparison to the non-species-specific healers and freezers on the site. Important Note: The prices under 100,000 NP were determined via the Super Shop Wizard. The prices over 100,000 NP are approximate. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Healers: General Healers Disclaimer: Only some of the most cost-efficient non-specific-species healers will be mentioned in this article! Greater Healing Scroll - about 200,000 NP The Greater Healing Scroll is a very popular healing item which restocks in the main shops. It is extremely useful for battle pets with lower HP, as it reliably heals up to 50HP. Because it is relatively cheap, it is also very commonly used by battlers.
- Alternative: Helm of Recovery has the same effect as a Greater Healing Scroll and is similarly priced.
Rejuvenating Jar of Brains - about 270,000 NP This healer was recently released as a prize for participating in the Obelisk War, and reliably heals up to 60HP. It is a small step up from the Greater Healing Scroll and is only slightly more expensive. Bag of Healing Dust Granted, there are a number of healing items which stand between the aforementioned brain jar and this bag of healing dust, but the cost effectiveness goes down as the amount of HP recovered goes up. For pets with over 200HP, it would be wise to switch over to a 50% healer. 50% healers, such as this Bag of Healing Dust, will reliably heal 50% of your pet's maximum HP level, without exceeding max HP. It can be used by any species at all, but has a big downside: it can cost over 10 million NP! Leaded Elemental Vial Truly the cream of the crop, this magical vial provides a FULL heal, meaning it always will restore your pet's HP to its maximum level. It is not fragile, meaning it will not break, no matter how many times you use it in battle (although it, like any other healer, will disappear for the duration of each battle after you've used it once). It is quite expensive, though, and can cost you over 30 million NP. - Alternative: The incredibly rare and unbelievably expensive Jade Scorchstone ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Healers: Species-Specific Healers Currently the most popular species healers are probably the Kacheek Life Potion and the Gelert Healing Remedy, because they give you the most bang out of your buck, and are used by popular Neopets species (that is, the Kacheek and the Gelert, respectively). However, there are a number of other species healers out there, and we will go over each of them in depth in this section. Kacheek Life Potion - about 225,000 NP This popular species healer recovers a different percentage of your pet's max HP depending on his or her current HP level. It will provide a FULL heal if your pet's current HP level is over 33% of the max HP level; otherwise, it will heal 33% of the max HP. - This may be initially confusing, so here is a drawn-out example: Say PetX has 333 max HP, but currently is standing at 110HP. This is less than 33% of the max HP, so if you use the Kacheek Life Potion, you will only recover 99HP. However, say your pet is currently standing at 113HP. This is over 33% of the max HP, so if you use the Kacheek Life Potion, then you will be healed back to full health! Gelert Healing Remedy - about 200,000 NP 50% Heal. Exactly the same effect as the Bag of Healing Dust, except it can only be used by Gelerts. It is similar in price to the Kacheek Life Potion, although this one has the benefit of being more consistent, since it will heal 50% of your pet's max HP level, whether your pet's current HP level is, say, 1/400 versus 200/400. Elephante Unguent - about 300,000 NP 50% Heal. Exactly the same effect as the Bag of Healing Dust, except it can only be used by Elephantes. It is similar in price to the Gelert Healing Remedy. Squishy Shoyru Healing Stone 50% Heal. Exactly the same effect as the Bag of Healing Dust, except it can only be used by Shoyrus. It is a bit pricier (and harder to find for sale) than the previously mentioned species healers, and can cost a couple million NP. However, it can usually be bought on the Trading Post for significantly less than the Bag of Healing Dust. Blumaroo Health Potion 50% Heal. Exactly the same effect as the Bag of Healing Dust, except it can only be used by Blumaroos. This is a bit more expensive than the Squishy Shoyru Healing Stone, and equally difficult to find for sale. However, it can usually be bought on the Trading Post for significantly less than the Bag of Healing Dust. Bag of Lenny Healing Seeds While this particular healing weapon is extremely rare and can be very expensive (in fact, it can cost nearly as much as the Bag of Healing Dust, which has the same effect as this item -- 50% heal), it is included in the list because it is a species-specific healer usable by the Lenny, which is also capable of using cost-efficient species-specific freezers. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Freezers: General Freezers Disclaimer: Only some of the most cost-efficient non-specific-species healers will be mentioned in this article! Green Frost Cannon - about 1 NP Considering this item costs only around 1 NP, there is no reason why you can't have a freezer in your battle set (unless, of course, you're filling your slots with a bunch of one-use items). Its chances of freezing your opponent are quite dismal, sitting at a lowly 10%, but it's much better than nothing! Snowglobe Staff - around 30,000 NP Way back in the day, this highly inefficient trinket was what we had to use if we wanted a non-fragile freezer but were too poor for the opulent H4000 Helmet. This is a sure upgrade from the Green Frost Cannon, as it has a 20% chance of freezing, but it would be wise to save up and upgrade to a better freezer. Scroll of Freezing - around 70,000 NP The Scroll of Freezing has a 100% chance of freezing your opponent, but is fragile and therefore has a chance of breaking forever. Not ideal for a frequent battler! - Alternative: Terror Stone - similar fragile 100% freezer which also costs around 70,000 NP. It is slightly inferior to the Scroll, however, because it has a somewhat higher chance of breaking. Randomly Firing Freeze Ray - around 250,000 NP This highly popular freeze ray has a 50% chance of freezing, and otherwise deals 2 icons of air and water damage each, each time it is used, until it finally freezes your opponent. For only 250K, 50% is pretty good! H4000 Helmet The classic freezer -- it has a 100% chance of freezing, and... that's essentially all it does! It freezes. It usually sells for around 7 million NP, so it's quite expensive, but well worth the NP if you are serious about battling! Freezing Potion The Freezing Potion has become a popular alternative to the H4000 Helmet, because it has a 100% chance of freezing your opponent and deals 2 icons of water damage to your opponent. It's quite pricey, and typically sells for about 7 million NP. Magical Marbles of Mystery These marbles have a 100% chance of freezing and deal an additional 3 icons of physical damage. They sell for 8 million NP in the Hidden Tower, but you might be able to buy it for slightly less from a fellow Neopian! Heavy Blue Tunic This tunic will typically only defend against a couple air, fire, and water icons. However, if your battle pet happens to be a genius (with 1000 intelligence points, that is!) then this simple tunic will additionally freeze your opponent! So if you have a smart pet, this is a slight upgrade from the Freezing Potion, and similarly costs around 6.5 million NP. Moehog Scroll Hands down, no doubt about it, this is the best freezer in the game. The Moehog Skull not only has a 100% chance of freezing, but it simultaneously deals 15 icons of damage to your opponent and defends against 10 icons dealt by your opponent. It is EXTREMELY rare, and can be won from a Haunted Woods scratchcard, but be warned -- the chance of winning one is unbelievably thin. If you want to buy one from a fellow Neopian, it will cost you several hundred million NP. Yes -- several hundred million! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Freezers: Species-Specific Freezers Lupe Wand - about 15,000 NP The Lupe Wand and Ancient Lupe Wand have a 100% freeze rate and are probably the cheapest, most effective freezing items available in all of Neopia. However, they do have a big downside: they are fragile, and have a chance of breaking forever (ie. disappearing!). So for someone who battles frequently, it would not be wise to invest too many neopoints into buying this freezer repeatedly. - Alternative: Ancient Lupe Wand Entangling Lenny Lasso This lasso can only be equipped to a Lenny, and has a 100% chance of freezing -- exactly the same as the H4000 Helmet! It usually goes for around 1 million NP, which is significantly cheaper than the helmet. - Alternative: Lenny Ray Gun of Freezing - it is essentially the same as the Entangling Lenny Lasso, but slightly rarer Icy Chia Goggles These goggles have a 100% chance of freezing -- exactly the same effect as the H4000 Helmet -- but typically sells for only about 2 million NP. That's truly quite a discount! Golden Peophin Harp
Not only is this a 100% freezer, but it also deals 3 icons of dark damage. It is, however, only usable by Peophins, extremely rare, and accordingly expensive! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ In Conclusion The Lenny is a great battledome pet to have, because a 50% healer and two 100% freezers are among its species-specific weapons. However, one might opt instead to morph their pet into a Kacheek, Gelert, or Elephante, in order to save more NP on buying a significantly cheaper species healer. This is because the price of a species healer for a Kacheek, Gelert, or Elephante, plus the cost of a Freezing Potion or H4000 Helmet will often be less than the price of both the Lenny species healer + either of the Lenny species freezers. And among the Kacheek, Gelert, and Elephantes species healers, one might prefer the Kacheek to the Gelert or Elephante if they participate in battles where they are unlikely to lose more than 66% of the max HP in a single turn. Otherwise, it would be wisest to morph your pet into either a Gelert or an Elephante, depending on your species preference. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Thank you for taking some time out to read this article. I hope this guide was of benefit to you!
