Fabulous Friends You Can Find Underwater!

by _brainchild_

--------

---Starring Avzor the Maraquan Eyrie, Caeleh the Maraquan Usul, Nimola the female Royalboy Draik, and Christine, their owner!---

Christine: Hi, and welcome! Have you ever heard the expression, “There are plenty of fish in the sea?” Well, when taken literally, there are, in fact, quite a few Petpets that you can find underwater. Your Neopet will have dozens upon dozens to choose from! Therefore, in honour of “The Sea” user collab for the Neopian Times, we will be looking at some of these cuties. We’ll include several paint brush colours, unpainted Petpets, an unpaintable Petpet, and a lab ray exclusive. Without further ado, here they are:

      ---Lellefisk and Soreen---

      Left: Lellefisk

      Right: Soreen

Christine: The Lellefisk and Soreen were both made into real Petpets after they were initially created as potential Neopets for the April Fool’s joke in Y7.

Nimola: Well, I’m glad they were, since they are both really lovely! They’re blue, just like me.

Christine: If you’re interested in learning more about the April Fool’s joke, Jellyneo has the information here:

     https://www.jellyneo.net/?go=fools2005

Nimola: Interesting... Some of those can stay as a joke. For example, that giant spider is NOT something I would like to meet anytime soon.

Caeleh: Agreed... Being a snail, I wouldn’t even be able to run from it.

Christine: Anyway, the Lellefisk, a cross between a lion and a mermaid, stocks at the Maraquan Petpets shop, whereas the Soreen, a graceful fish, can be found at Mystery Island’s Aquatic Petpet shop, also known as the Rock Pool.

Avzor: I hear that the Lellefisk’s roar isn’t very loud... I could roar louder than that.

Caeleh: True, but the Lellefisk will surely make a lot of bubbles for your entertainment! I’d run around popping them if I could. The joys of being a snail...

      ---Maractite Quilin---

Christine: The Quilin is originally from the Fanciful Fauna Petpet shop in Shenkuu, but this one has been painted with a Maractite Petpet Paint Brush. Quilins are thought to have many magical powers.

     Avzor: What kinds of powers?

Nimola: Well, my Maractite Quilin is actually quite a good swimmer, and can breathe underwater, despite looking like it’s oriented for land.

Caeleh: I heard that Quilins can also breathe fire!

Nimola: Well, mine breathes jets of bubbles, which come in many different shapes! Hearts and stars, for example.

     Avzor: Ooh... Pretty!

Christine: The Quilin also has a long mane which is always luscious and silky regardless of whether or not you brush it.

Nimola: Very convenient... Brushing my hair is always a pain!

      ---Maraquan Albat---

Caeleh: Wow, it looks just like you, Avzor!

Avzor: You’re right. The Maraquan Albat is modeled after the Maraquan Eyrie, so I got one for myself. Yeah, I was being ridiculously unoriginal, but I wanted a mini-me.

Nimola: Heh heh... Having a little twin would be fun.

Christine: The Albat originally comes from the Medieval Petpet shop in Meridell, but this one has been painted with a Maraquan Petpet Paint Brush. The Maraquan Albat, unlike other colours of Albats, is an excellent swimmer, just like the Maraquan Eyrie.

Nimola: Just like the Maractite Quilin. I see that the Maraquan Albat also has a beautiful mane! I wish my hair was that pretty...

Avzor: I hear that faerie dust solves anything.

Nimola: Really? I’ll have to try some, then.

      ---Nuranna---

Avzor: I’m sure that this little shark is a very good swimmer, despite stocking in the Tyrannian Petpet shop.

Christine: Very true! Like the Maraquan Albat, the Nuranna is an excellent swimmer. Also, it can breathe out of water and float in mid-air for short periods of time.

Nimola: So it can fly? Just like me!

Caeleh: True, but it probably wouldn’t be as skilled at flying as a Draik.

Nimola: Still better than the flight ability (or lack thereof) of a Maraquan Usul.

Caeleh: True... Story of my life. The tale of being a snail.

Avzor: Well, snails have other abilities. For example, having a shell is good for defence in the Battledome.

     Caeleh: Very true!

Christine: Speaking of fighting, the Nuranna has a nasty bite if you annoy it in any way, but an easy way to avoid that is to simply be nice. It’s very friendly unless it’s antagonised first.

Nimola: You know what I’ve always said... I’m nice to nice people!

      ---Water Goldy---

Christine: Unlike the other colours of Goldies, the Water Goldy is an unpaintable Petpet which was given out as a prize for the Year 24 Festival of Neggs.

Caeleh: Thus, it was easy for me to get. I fell in love with it immediately! That’s why I now keep one by my side.

Avzor: The other colours of Goldies are a bit harder to come by... They’re a retired Aquatic Petpet in shorter supply. Nowadays, they can only be purchased from other users.

Caeleh: While the Water Goldy, too, can only be bought from other players at this point, it is in much greater supply, so I got one easily.

Nimola: That’s a good thing, since a Goldy’s eggs are supposedly made of real, pure gold, so you’ll have a continuous supply of riches.

Avzor: I think that’s just a myth, though.

     Nimola: Awww... Well, that’s lame.

Avzor: Just think about it... If Goldy eggs were made of real gold, then there would be commercial Goldy farms everywhere.

Caeleh: I wouldn’t want to see any such farms. My Water Goldy is undoubtedly happier with me! So... I guess it’s a good thing that the eggs aren’t really made of gold. I have enough people pining after my shell!

Avzor: Yeah... That must get annoying.

     Caeleh: Trust me. It does!

      ---8-Bit Walein---

Christine: A cute little Walein is just the thing to get if your Neopet is feeling blue.

Avzor: True. Who wouldn’t like a baby whale?

Christine: The 8-Bit Walein looks like it came straight from the early days of video games, which is quite nostalgic. It’s exclusive to the Petpet Lab Ray, but if you aren’t feeling that lucky, you can get an original, White, Green, Blue, or Ghost Walein by winning against the Giant Spectral Mutant Walein on Hard Mode.

Avzor: Very cool! The Mutant Walein Petpet requires a Mutant Petpet Paint Brush, though, and the Faerie Walein requires a Faerie Petpet Paint Brush.

Caeleh: You’d think that the Giant Spectral Mutant Walein would have a lot of mutant babies to give out...

Nimola: Well, I’d rather have the item be a bit rarer because then it’s worth having.

     Avzor: Very true.

      ---Conclusion---

Christine: So, which Petpet was everyone’s favourite?

Avzor: The Maraquan Albat, since it’s a mini-me!

Caeleh: The Water Goldy, even if its eggs aren’t really made of gold.

Nimola: The Maractite Quilin... It’s a great swimmer, and blows lots of pretty bubbles, too!

Christine: Anyway, for this commemorative edition, please be sure to give your aquatic Neopet or Petpet a great, big hug. Until next time, dear readers!
