Quote of the Week
I jump out of the carriage and scan the area for the driver. I find the orange Acara laying face down in the snow under the wheel of the carriage. "Oh no."
Alice climbs out of the carriage after me. She watches as I pull the Acara out from under the wheel, and try to turn him over. I heave a sigh of relief when I discover he's still breathing, and seems to be in stable condition, other than the fact that he's unconscious. But I am not a doctor; I am a businessman. I need to get this man to someone who is a doctor. Unfortunately the place where we have 'crash landed' is a little off the beaten path so to speak, as far as Neopia Central goes. The snow-covered street on which the Acara is laying is lined with small, family owned business buildings — foreign grocers, specialty shops, self-employed business headquarters and the like. I know from my line of work that at this time of day one week before the Day of Giving, these types of areas are usually virtually deserted.

Last Year Advent Calendar Interviews
Everyone’s favorite Month of Giving activity, the Advent Calendar, is well known for more than just a month worth of free gifts. Every day we’re presented with a new holiday animation ranging from comedic to heartwarming. Sometimes these animations even feature a famous character, usually ones who had been involved with an event during the past year. However, while the animations tell a self contained story, sometimes don’t you wonder what led up to or happened after the animation? I decided for some of them to find out, so I went around to many famous Neopets characters |

"Dr Death's Translocation Device" by phadalusfish The Day of Giving dawned cold and bleak in a certain corner of Neopia Central, where dozens of pets without families huddled together in the Pound. They had spent the night under the large window in the reception area, staring up at the few stars that managed to peek through the gathering clouds. By morning, the fluffy white puffs had turned dark gray, and snow had started to tumble out of them. The window frosted over, obscuring their view.
Cabb, a Robot Shoyru, was the only one among the bunch who wasn’t shivering. “There’s still plenty of time,” he said to the Maraquan Usual curled up at his feet casings. “The holidays aren’t over yet.”
She nodded, looked up at the window and sniffed. They had been here the longest, Cabb and the Usul. Many of the others had come and gone in the past few months, but no one wanted to make friends with a cold metal Shoyru or a slimy Maraquan Usul. |
"A Settling of Differences" by cherishtwilight The spirit of Christmas comes in many different forms. It often symbolizes togetherness, family, caring for one another, ending one life while slowly building another. One can assume that there’s something magical behind watching children throw snowballs at one another, sitting by a fire with a hot cup of borovan at your finger tips, the mothers and fathers flooding shops to shop for gifts. But in most occasions, Christmas is nothing more than an opportunity for change, a day of giving.
This was not one of those occasions.
Up in the blistering tundra of Terror Mountain, there was a breed of beasts that refused to adhere to any of these nonsensical traditions one may collectively call ‘Christmas’. It is not that they lack the intelligence or the emotion, but that they choose to express it in their own way unique to that of ours. In this case, the Snow Beasts choose to profess their admiration of each other through the only methods they know possible; grumbling, and rolling snow down a mountain. |
"Usuki Singing Stars #28: Scary Volunteers" by downrightdude "I’m freezing!” Scary fumed, shivering as Patricia approached her. The purple Bruce sighed as she hugged herself and buried her face in her scarf. “Why in Neopia do we have to come here today?? Can’t we just say we did our volunteer scheme?”
Patricia shook her head. “You know we wouldn’t get away with it, Scary,” informed the faerie Shoyru. “We would need a letter from the shopkeeper himself to prove we’ve done our assignment.”
“Well this is definitely the stupidest thing I’ve ever done!” Scary declared, following Patricia into the Second-Hand Shoppe. She was still baffled at the assignment their English teacher insisted they do during their winter break: spend a few days doing community service at any location or business within Neopia Central. The volunteer work would have mattered much more if it was done at the Grooming Parlour, where Scary could try out the latest cosmetics and skin moisturizers. Instead Patricia, her assigned partner, decided to sign them up for shifts at the Second-Hand Shoppe–a thrift shop built in the shape of a cardboard box. |

Within the Archives: The Dancing Curse: Part One On her tiptoes, Elleri the Royal Blumaroo could barely see out the frosted window panes. This particular window was created from an array of red and purple panes meant to take the form of some rose from a novel Hark was fond of. Elleri was sure he’d had it commissioned after finally digging his way into the Romance archive in Brightvale’s library.
