Quote of the Week
"Cathton smiled ruefully, remembering a time when he had exclaimed that Santa Claws had come during the night to deliver everything on his list. He was around three years old at the time, and his parents had immediately chastised him for saying it was Santa Claws who was giving him presents. No, they had said, Santa Claws did not exist, and was a silly story not meant for young lords-in-waiting, especially when the lord-in-waiting in question had a mother and a father who could so easily give him everything he wanted."

Christmas Weewoo: A Scientific Study
Christmas Weewoo are some of the merriest of Petpets known to Neopiankind. Like their alternatively coloured counterparts, all Weewoos are well accustomed to living in towns and cities. They are docile, curious, and are known to serenade those who leave out bird feeders, a sort of friendship ritual. But unlike the other Weewoo sub-species, Christmas Weewoos are known to display unique behaviours that will be discussed in this brief scientific letter. All data was compiled by Melody Harvester, PhD candidate at Meridell College.
Cuddling Behaviour
Weewoo are social Petpets, often foraging in flocks (except the mutant Weewoo; for more information about this sub-species, please consult this summary by the same author.) Most are solitary roosters and are found with individuals of their immediate brood during the nesting season. In contrast, Christmas Weewoos are often found in large cuddling groups, affectionately called a “Big Woo” by avid Petpet watchers. There have been records of upwards to thirty Weewoo cuddling together to help conserve body heat! The red, fluffy cape-like parts of their bodies are some of the softest, warmest parts of their bodies along with their big red crests, sometimes called their “Santa hats.” When cold, Christmas Weewoo will fluff up their feathers to reduce overall surface area and better contain heat. When many are together, it can be hard to tell one Weewoo from another, with only their beady eyes helping to differentiate the sea of yellow from red.
Absolute Floof
This sub-species has naturally thicker feathers than its more southerly counterparts. Because of their thick fluff, these Weewoos are the heaviest sub-species, often weighing a full 10% more than the second highest, the Royal Weewoo (this sub-species is heavier because they wear adornments that they collect throughout their lives). Due to this weight, they tend to fly lower to the ground and for shorter distances to conserve energy. They are also what is known as a sit-and-wait predator, often staying in one place and waiting for food to come by before taking off from their perch and giving chase. Beyond their fluffy bodies, they also have feathered legs that are well adapted to handle the cold. This functions as built-in legwarmers and protects them from the dangers of frostbite. |

"A Kronborg Christmas Eve" by joyfulcabbage 24th Day of Celebrating, Y26
The large royal coach came to a stop in front of the gate to Brightvale Castle. Solarin, Brightvale's official Royal Steed, lowered his head; the load had been much heavier than usual, and he was exhausted from pulling the carriage through fifteen centimetres of fresh snow. The door to the carriage opened and a petite grey Acara climbed out, walking over to the white Uni and patting his shoulder.
"I'm sorry," she said to her old friend. "I did warn you that we weren't travelling light."
"That you did, Princess," he conceded, turning his head to address Princess Annabelle, the younger sister of Kings Hagan of Brightvale and Skarl of Meridell, who was returning from having been to Altador to visit her elder brothers at the
Council of Leaders. "Next time, I won't assume that's just extra presents for the Day of Giving, and I'll make sure to find another Uni to help me pull this carriage."
"Your efforts will not go unrewarded, Solarin," added King Hagan, climbing down from the carriage behind his sister. Hagan had requested to be allowed to leave the Council for two weeks to return to Brightvale--it was his triplet granddaughters' first Day of Giving, and he did not want to miss a moment of it. He had not, however, warned his children that he would be coming; he wanted to surprise them the way Annabelle had surprised him the day she'd arrived in Altador. Speaking of surprises, he
glanced at a portly Grey Skeith dressed in a Scorchy Claus costume, who was now climbing down out of the carriage as well. Bringing Skarl along had been his idea--he was worried about what Skarl might say or do without ... |
"Borovan Black Hole" by illogicalatlas Unless you care for skiing, the Month of Celebrating is not really a highlight in any sport. That’s common knowledge.
Most Neopians often find themselves preoccupied with one of two sets of activities.
Either you could focus on the glitz and glamour of sparkling lights, lofty gifts, and hitting the right note while singing with your guildmates.
Or, you could take a lift up to the tallest mountains with the sole goal of rushing yourself down those mountains as quickly as you can. Lather, rinse, and repeat until your paws or claws or fins grow numb, then cosy up in the Valley with good company and better food.
All the norm, that is, unless your name is Tobias Sigmir. Then you might just happen to know a little better than that.
While the big leagues were resting their laurels, there was a small, but promising Gormball Little League match coming up between two teams in Happy Valley. A blip on the calendar that most would overlook.
Which should have made it the perfect opportunity for the Ixi to sneak in, to go unnoticed, and to simply enjoy the sport as a fan.
Surely, Yooyuball was the very last thing on his mind when he planned this trip.
Yet, here he sat. A hot cup of borovan in his hooves, and the familiar scowl of a certain Maraquan Acara directly across from him.
“Does this place seriously not have a Rambus Cream Latte…?”
Elon Hughlis grumbled as he flipped through his menu.
Tobias tilted his head as he leaned forward slightly, trying his best to keep up an air of professionalism. Of all the Pets that could have spotted him in the hustle and bustle of the Mountain’s busiest season, it just had to be the infamous captain of the Maraquan Mermaids. |
"Winter in Mystery Island" by firaplays7045 Ever wonder what winter is like on Mystery Island? Well, normally it’s not much different from summer – clear skies, hot sun, cool waters. But one year was different – that was the year of The Incident.
No one knows how it happened or why. Some say it was the work of Santa. Others say it was a prank from a passing faerie. Whatever the reason, Mystery Island was covered in snow. For the first time, the locals were having a real winter. No one knew what to make of it at first. But once the shock wore off, everyone began to explore their new snowy home.
One Mynci went to the beach to check on the volleyball net. He could hardly believe his eyes – the beach, normally covered in white sand, was a vast expanse of sparkling powder. The sun bounced off the snow, making it glisten like diamonds. It was hard to tell where the beach ended and the ocean began. The Mynci took a cautious step towards the volleyball net. He jumped back in surprise – this strange sand was cold! He slowly lowered his foot again and took one step, then another. Before he knew it, he had reached the net.
It clearly wasn’t a good day for volleyball. Much to the Mynci’s dismay, the net was weighed down by more of this strange, cold sand. Every hole was filled with powder, and the ropes had frozen over. It would take forever to get it cleaned off. The Mynci slumped his shoulders and turned around to go home. As he turned, he noticed his footprints on the ground. These prints were different from the ones he usually left in the sand. They were very clear, not blurry like beach footprints usually are. And now that he thought about it, there was a very nice *crunch* sound whenever his feet hit the ground. |
