Quote of the Week
"That was a little hard for Solanza to swallow, remembering the way the people had waited for hours for her to finish playing her game. Domria was the thoughtful one, the kind one, the one who would give the shirt off her back and the food from her table to anyone who needed it more than her. Solanza was a little too honest about her own shortcomings to compare herself to that."
25 Reasons We're Still Here, 25 Years Later
When friends ask: why are you still playing Neopets? Isn’t that game from the early 2000’s?! You think for a while, but you can’t pinpoint the one exact reason why you’re still here - is it the vibes? Do you miss your pets? Or do you like feeling rich as a neo-billionaire? There are many different reasons why many of us choose to spend hours of our lives immersed in Neopia. So let us help you out with this list of 25 reasons why we’re still here, 25 years later!
1. Re-living the nostalgia - Neopets hasn’t changed! The core site, the art work, the cast of characters, the world map of Neopia and all its lands are still intact, just as you remembered in the days of yore. Neopets has been preserved as a treasured time travel capsule to your old beloved digital toybox.
2. Escaping the real world. Most users are adults now, which means real life responsibilities. And sometimes, we could use a break from those real life obligations by dropping in to visit our pixelated pet world.
3. Your pets are starving so you’re back to feed them. Though, you know better now than to feed them omelettes - after all, those need to be saved for the annual Faerie Festival Recycling. Instead, to the Neolodge they go!4. Achieving dream pets is possible now! Speaking of the Faerie Festival, the once ever elusive Rainbow Fountain Faerie now makes regular appearances during this annual event to grant the dream pet colour of your choosing. What's more, Quest Log has also swooped into the scene. Re-releasing those rare paint brushes and morphing potions help close the gap in making those dreamies come true!
5. Customising pets. You’re an adult and you have the money to buy NC (or more accurately, the decision-making powers to do so). Complete your dream pets by dressing them up. Mix and match, exchange fun ideas, create different fitting combinations, spend hours on the NC trading boards to find a white Radiant Glow, and bask in the satisfaction of nailing the finishing look! |
9 Plot Characters Who Captured Our Hearts
Hannah:
What can be said about her that hasn't been commented on before? Hannah is the quintessential Neopets #1 heroine. Having started her story as a former barmaid, this sharp-witted, insightful and adventurous Usul became a full-fledged adventurer who has faced multiple enemies and always emerged victorious. From pirate captains, to evil beings of the lost desert or monsters of Terror Mountain; she faces anything and is an adventurer par excellence who always has an eye on the next challenge.
Finally, it is important to note that she is one of the most characteristically prominent characters on Neopets. Not only has she has been a key participant in at least 3 plots directly; she’s also the star of 4 games, 1 avatar, and most recently is featured as the face of the Quest Log, a feature that all Neopians play on a daily basis. Hannah is a lovable face who is adventurous, kind, fearless and an absolute star of her era, still capturing the hearts of players to this day.
Lisha
First seen within the Champions of Meridell plot, one of the most notable characters was the bespectacled and intelligent sister of Jeran the knight: a young Aisha named Lisha. Within the context of this story, she was reunited with her long lost brother by accidentally tumbling upon the very portal that transported him to the past, arriving along with her friends in the land of ancient Meridell just at the height of the Darigan War. Not long after her arrival, she soon found herself in the midst of the battle against Lord Kass in which her knowledge and strong deduction skills helped her to recognize that she was immune to the Court Dancer's spell, then freeing King Skarl from its control and allowing Meridell to obtain the reinforcements it desperately needed to turn the tides on the war.
Her contribution was vital as she alone was able to dispel the influence and reveal the identity of the evil sorceress who kept Meridell and its forces immobilised under her influence. |

"The Birthday Celebration Race" by skipperjen A flutter of activity stirred in the early evening air of the Lost City of Geraptiku. Under normal circumstances, the mysterious jungle surroundings would have been silent. Today, things were different. An Elephante tromped past the collection jar of the vacant Petpet shop, doing his best not to drag a large banner through the rich soil.
“Interesting choice for our birthday celebration race…” His companion, a Scorchio, observed quietly. He hopped slightly, untangling a vine that had managed to coil itself around his ankle. “Are we sure we will have a good turn out this year?”
“Queen Fyora chose this spot herself.” The Elephante grunted in response. He did not know why he was explaining this to his friend once again. The Scorchio had been grumbling about the location several times through the weeks leading up to the race. “It’s the only spot where inhabitants would not be disturbed.” Now that they were actually in Geraptiku setting things up, he was able to see for the first time just how lost and forgotten the city actually was. There were dwellings scattered throughout the area, but the ringing silence indicated that the place had long been abandoned.
“Very well.” The Scorchio replied, setting down his supplies. “Let’s get things set up and head out quickly.” The Elephante nodded in agreement, making quick work... |
"The Afterparty Cleanup" by ningkov1 The day after Neopia's birthday celebrations was a time when most were still happily drifting along on a sugary sweet cloud of treats; however, for those in the Cleanup Brigade it was one of the busiest days of the year. Leftover candy wrappers, confetti, gift boxes, party streamers: most of these items were trash, though every year usable goods and even treasures were found by the cleaners. Last year, a newbie somehow stumbled upon a Cybunny Morphing Potion, valued at over 10 million Neopoints! She quickly quit her job and was now travelling around Neopia.
Ginger, unfortunately, was not as lucky as that newbie. It was already her tenth year on the job, but she had never found anything worth more than a couple thousand Neopoints. Thankfully, she did find enough items in the trash to furnish her entire apartment! Every day she came home to an eclectic mix of Birthday, Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, and Faerie Festival furniture and goods.
As a senior member of the staff, she was assigned to the Haunted Woods today. Fortunately, it was one of her favourite areas (despite the creepiness) due to the nice Neopians that worked at the fairgrounds. She looked around at the dark trees and tried not to listen too carefully to the eerie sounds around her. She could have sworn she heard someone screaming in the distance... |
"Never-Ending Birthday Bash" by endisnigh A colourful pamphlet had made its way into Ali’s mailbox. The Electric Shoyru reached in to pull out the leaflet to check out what new event was being advertised. Vivid balloons and a large birthday cake filled in the empty space, and had large words printed in the centre:
“Join us in Celebration for our 25th Birthday Bash!
Free Rides, Pizza, and Ice Cream!
Location: Neopia Central
Date: 15th Day of Storing”
“Oh yeah, I for sure want to make this!” Ali exclaimed out loud to herself. She had made it to some of the birthday parties in the past and had always had a blast. There was a lot of enjoyment and positive energy surrounding the event, with plenty of activities and birthday goodies for all the Neopians who attended. “Wait, what day is it today?” she asked as she looked down at her watch. “Shoot – TODAY is the 15th! I need to make my way down there quick!” Ali wasted no time and started to make her way towards the heart of Neopia Central.
***
The little Shoyru had finally made it to the Birthday Bash. A large event area had been created, with a large gate surrounding the designated area. All the thrill rides that were set up were towering over the gate and could be seen before you even reached the entrance. The scent of sweets and treats filled Ali’s nostrils the closer she got to passing through the access point of the Birthday Bash. |
