The Joy Of Customizing Rukis

by myrtles

--------

Let's face it, there are some pets that are just well known for being easy and fun to customize- Kacheeks, Draiks and Blumaroos just to name a few. However, Rukis don't seem to get as much attention. I rarely see them mentioned on the pound chat or on any other boards for that matter. That's not to say there are no Neopian Ruki fans. But what about those who have never considered having a Ruki as a pet? I never considered a Ruki until a few months ago when I started customizing my Halloween Ruki. I realized I hadn't given them a fair chance before and started to notice how beautiful they can look when customized. Rukis are now a limited edition Neopet, so you can obtain one on Ruki Day (July 29th) when they are released in batches throughout the day, a lucky zap, or by using a morphing potion. You can also try your luck with a Mysterious Swirly Potion which turns your pet into a random limited edition pet.

Before I get started with customizing, I want to say that I enjoy customizing a wide variety of pets. All pets are all fun and unique in their own way and can be made to look awesome! Most pets have their desirable and less desirable features in the world of customization. For instance, I adore Kacheeks, but the chest hair on Kacheeks bugs me with low-cut shirts or dresses. Maybe that's just me, but I'd love to see more necklace and collar wearables. Anyway, let's talk Rukis. Rukis come from the Lost Desert and are made to endure the harsh climate, with their tough exterior, pincers, and shelled bottom. Their waist starts where the shelled bottom begins, which makes their lower body very long. Due to the long body, the biggest advantage Rukis have in the customizing world is how well they wear LONG dresses and skirts. I emphasize long, because short ones are another story; we'll get to that later. Long dresses and skirts are often very bountiful and flowing on the Rukis- outright gorgeous! You really get to see the full look of the dress or skirt worn when you put it on a Ruki. Here is a good example- the Abundant Heart Dress (you can always go to DTI or Jellyneo and try my examples yourself). The Abundant Heart Dress on a Cybunny is half-hidden by the scruff. On a Ruki, however, you can see all of the dress, including the gorgeous heart top, and the dress is very bountiful on the bottom. You get to see just how gorgeous this dress really is! Now let's look at the Charming Rose Skirt. The icon image of the skirt looks like the skirt would be short and is short on the Mynci. On the Ruki, it is long and nearly covers their feet.

Ok, so here are the trickier parts of a Ruki for customizing. I said earlier I'd get back to the short skirt issue, some of which don't even fully cover the shelled bottom. To remedy the short skirts issue (if you agree it is a stinker) is to add a pair of tights. Try this fun combination: Gothic Ruki Skirt + Diamond Heart Tights and Shoes. How cute is that? Keep in mind that tights with tutus or skirts cannot be layered under another skirt or dress, but tights with shoes only can be layered under skirts, dresses, trousers, shorts and also the tights with tutus or skirts. If you really want to layer up, you can wear jackets over dresses or shirts, dresses or shirts over pants or shorts, and pants or shorts over tights and shoes.

Here are a few other trickier parts of the Ruki for customizing. Let's start with the large feet. Some shoes make their feet look even larger, particularly most boots. If this doesn't bother you, then great! But if it does, try focusing on the daintier shoes like the Basic Lace-Up Shoes. One thing that is special about Rukis is shoes are worn on all 4 of their feet. It really bugs me that on four-legged pets, shoes are only an option (mostly) for the back two feet and the front two are treated like hands. On a four-legged pet I want 4 shoes, and Rukis are the only pet that have 4 feet and wear 4 shoes all the time (because they also have hands). Now onto arms. Some people may also have an issue with the bulky forearms. If you are one of them, try the long-sleeved shirts, jackets or dresses, such as the Winter Couture Dress. I also don't care for how gloves look on them, so I avoid gloves, but everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Earrings hang from different spots on the Ruki, so you'll just want to experiment. Some look like they are hanging from behind the eyes and others hang from the antennas.

I'm going to add a few more positive aspect of customizing Rukis. Rukis wear wigs very well! Because they are tall, they really sport the long wigs beautifully. The Altadorian Wig with Gold Ribbon is so long and hangs down to the ankles. There are a wide variety of wigs that sit right and look gorgeous on Rukis. Their eyes are an asset! They have big beautiful eyes that sport contacts very nicely, and if you use a wig that exposes the eyebrows, don't forget some eye shadow! A good example: Basic Beanie and Blond Wig paired with Fyoras Eyeshadow.

As you can see, there are a lot of fun options for customizing Rukis and the world is your oyster! Hopefully I've addressed any concerns you may have had about customizing Rukis as well. My favorite color Ruki to customize is Yellow. While it is basic, it seems (in my opinion) to have the widest variety of wearables that complement the base color. As with other pets, other good color options would be White (although the white Ruki has somewhat of a bluish tint, white-based makeups like Gothic Inspired Makeup and Mr. Chuckles Make-Up Kit are still best on white pets), Royal Girl (particularly if you like to dress with pastel colors, pinks and purples), and Pirate/Halloween (similar base colors but Halloween also gives an avatar with 30+ day old Mummy Baby). Faerie Rukis also have a pretty base color and gorgeous wings. Those are just a few versatile colors I like.

You may have noticed, I mostly focused on customizing a female Ruki, but males can be dressed awesome as well, especially when it comes to trousers! My favorite trousers on a long-legged pet is Carnival of Terror Clown Pants with Suspenders; they are so fun! So don't let my fondness for female pets discourage you from having a male. I also focused a lot on Neocash wearables. There are some gorgeous Neopoint wearables as well, such as the Fancy Ruki Dress. Because I enjoy customizing a variety of pets, I don't have lots of Rukis (I have two at the moment), but I seriously considered changing every pet just about to a Ruki to show off those long flowing dresses and skirts! I would encourage you to give Rukis a try. Dress them up using different base colors and styles of clothing and accessories and see what you think. You may just fall in love like I did, if you haven't already.
