Conversations with Xandra

The following is a never before released unredacted record of some conversations between Queen Fyora and Xandra during her time in Faerieland. Neomails and in-person conversations are also labelled as such. Such records were obtained by the Neopian Times under the Faerieland Public Records Act.

      — Beginning of records —

Record 1: In-Person / the 14th day of the Month of Hiding, Y3

Fyora: Oh, what is that over there lying in the field? I see a speckled pet.

     Xandra: *in pain* Ughhhhh…*groans*

Fyora: Oh my, it’s a Speckled Xweetox. You’re hurt! What happened? Your fur is missing in spots too!

     Xandra: Faerie… dark faerie… spell

Fyora: A faerie did this to you?

Xandra: Yes… faerie… you’re a faerie! Get away from me!

Fyora: No, no! I’m not that type of bad faerie. Please let me help you!

Xandra: No… Get away… *kicks Fyora*

Fyora: Ow--- *hugs Xandra* It’s ok, I’ve got you. You’re safe now.

     Xandra: Let me go!

Fyora: Just go to sleep. I’ll take care of the rest. *casts a spell that puts Xandra to sleep*

Record 2: In-Person / the 21st day of the Month of Hiding, Y3

Fyora: Good morning. How are you feeling?

     Xandra: …

Fyora: … Good morning, how are you feeling?

     Xandra: Fine…

Fyora: I never got your name. What should I call you?

     Xandra: Xandra.

Fyora: Xandra, that sounds like a lovely name. Well, Xandra, I’m glad to see you’re doing better.

     Xandra: …

Fyora: I brought you something. Here, fresh sugar cookies from the kitchen.

     Xandra: …

Fyora: I’ll just leave them here for you. Anyways, I guess I better get going. You keep resting here.

Xandra: … Wait. Why are you being… never mind…

Fyora: Take your time getting better, also there’s a potion you should drink to help you heal. It’s on the nightstand with the cookies.

     Xandra: … Thanks.

Record 3: In-Person / the 20th day of the Month of Gathering, Y3

Fyora: Well, today is the day. It’s the Faerie Festival.

     Xandra: What’s that?

Fyora: It’s when all the faeries in Neopia gather here to celebrate another year and to bless Neopia with a bountiful harvest. Also, it’s time for faeries to vote on issues in Faerieland. But for you, you just enjoy the food and games here.

     Xandra: …

Fyora: Or you can just stick close to me if you want.

     Xandra: Yes.

Fyora: You know, you needn’t be afraid of the other faeries. I know that dark faerie that hurt you is still out there, but you’re going to be surrounded by good faeries.

     Xandra: …

Fyora: Or maybe not. Just follow me around.

     Xandra: Sure.

Record 4: In-Person / the 3rd day of the Month of Sleeping, Y4

Fyora: No, no, you need to concentrate a bit more, Xandra. Now repeat after me, “Wind, lend me your hand. Show me the echoes of sand.”

Xandra: Wind, lend me your hand. Show me the echoes of sand.

Fyora: Now there you go! See how you just summoned a small dust storm?

     Xandra: Yeah! That’s amazing.

Fyora: That’s enough magic practice for the day. I don’t want you to get exhausted. Why don’t we go get something to eat?

     Xandra: More faerie dumplings?

Fyora: Of course, as many as you want.

     Xandra: Thank you.

Record 5: In-Person / the 2nd day of the Month of Relaxing, Y4

Xandra: Happy Fyora day! Here are some flowers for you!

Fyora: Oh, you didn’t have to. These are lovely!

Xandra: Oh, let me show you what I learned! Flowers flowers, see them all. Flowers flowers, see them fall!

Fyora: Whoa, this sweet smell shower of flower petals is amazing! Thank you so much, Xandra!

Xandra: I’m glad you like it! I hope you enjoy your day. Now I’m going to go train more.

Fyora: Shouldn’t you take the day off too? It’s a holiday.

Xandra: Nah, I have nothing else to do. See you later. *exits*

Fyora: Hmm… she hasn’t made any friends with the faeries or any other pets yet, even after almost a year. But no, I can’t force her to. That brings nothing good.

Record 6: In-Person / the 20th day of the Month of Gathering, Y4

Third Party: Aethia, the Battle Faerie and Faerieland’s OTHER queen

Xandra: Another Faerie Festival, have you had any luck locating the dark faerie that… you know?

Fyora: I’ve tried, but she’s very good at disguising herself as a faerie of another element.

     Xandra: Hmm, ok.

Fyora: I’m going to be busier this festival since I have a few updates to give. We’re going to be welcoming more guests into Faerieland soon. Do you mind going with Aethia?

Xandra: Aethia? She’s kind of intimidating.

Fyora: Trust me, she wouldn’t hurt a fly unless it declared war on Faerieland. You can trust her. She’s my better half.

     Xandra: *sigh* Alright.

Aethia: Hi Xandra, want to do the obstacle course challenge at the Faerie Festival?

Xandra: *sigh* Do I have a choice?

     Aethia: Come on, let’s go!

Record 7: In-Person / the 15th day of the Month of Running, Y4

Xandra: Ugh, I can’t believe I failed at this spell.

     Fyora: What spell is it?

Xandra: I’m trying to turn this plant to stone.

Fyora: Now, why would you want to do that?

Xandra: Because the spell is challenging. I want to do something challenging. We haven’t done anything like that before.

Fyora: Well, I would like to avoid dark magic if possible…

Xandra: Why? Isn’t all magic the same? It’s only bad or good depending on how you use it?

Fyora: I suppose so. Ok, well, close your eyes and try to channel your inner magic toward the plant.

     Xandra: I’m doing that now.

Fyora: Okay, now breathe in to draw in the earth around you.

     Xandra: *inhales*

Fyora: Now repeat after me, “From the dust of the land, earth, turn to stone this plant.”

Xandra: From the dust of the land, earth, turn to stone this plant.

Fyora: Well, you now have a flower statue. Would you like to keep it in your room?

Xandra: Uh, sure. I guess it’s a plant I don’t have to water.

Record 8: In-Person / the 30th day of the Month of Hiding, Y4

Xandra: I’ve heard that there is a war brewing below us. Between Meridell and Darigan Citadel.

Fyora: Yes, there is a war, and it’s concerning.

     Xandra: Can’t Faerieland intervene?

Fyora: We can provide aid to both sides.

Xandra: Can’t we use our magic to help keep the peace?

Fyora: Yes, but us faeries don’t want to meddle too much in Neopian affairs.

Xandra: Why? We could do good here!

Fyora: We feel that Neopets don’t want faeries to run Neopia.

Xandra: You wouldn’t be running Neopia though! Just taking a stand against war. I mean, isn’t Lord Darigan your best friend?

Fyora: Hmm… Darigan is a dear friend, but I would like to maintain peace with both him and King Skarl. King Skarl will only be more suspicious and may turn his sword against us if any aid flows to Darigan.

Xandra: But you have Illusen on Meridell’s side. You have to do something, Fyora! Neopians are being harmed!

Fyora: I need council approval for this – they won’t approve it. Only Aethia and I would vote for it.

     Xandra: What about royal decree?

Fyora: Look, the decision to go to war is a serious one, and I cannot make that alone. Rushing into this will hurt so many others along the way.

Xandra: I thought you were better than this, Fyora. I really did.

     Fyora: Xandra…

     Xandra: Save any further excuses.

Record 9: In-Person / the 1st day of the Month of Hunting, Y5

Xandra: I see the war is finally over.

     Fyora: Yes, thank goodness.

Xandra: I know about the orb, Fyora. Why didn’t Faerieland help Meridell with their famine? We have plenty of earth faeries.

Fyora: We-well, Illusen – tried. But there was something else at play. Some type of evil magic. Then Meridell decided to stop working with Illusen.

Xandra: But we have so many experts in magic here. Surely someone would have been able to help?

Fyora: It just didn’t seem that simple. I know that’s not a great answer, we tried our best to understand the magic behind the orb. But it appears the more we tried, the harder the orb seemed to resist our attempts to study it.

Xandra: Why don’t you send me to help next time?

Fyora: This could be a possibility; I’ll keep you in mind next time.

Record 10: In-Person / the 20th day of the Month of Gathering, Y5

Fyora: We have the dark faerie that wronged you in custody. They’ve done similar things to other pets too, so we’ll make sure she pays for her crimes. Much of her work was around illegal experiments on pets and Petpets.

Xandra: I see, well, thanks for telling me. But what consequences will she face?

Fyora: Well… unfortunately, the best evidence we have is your testimony and your physical state with scars from the dark magic. None of the other pets retained their memories of the incident. The case was out of my hands. A panel of jurors only decided to indict her for simple “disruption of the magical order”, which doesn’t carry a dungeon sentence.

     Xandra: …

     Fyora: Look, I’m sorry.

Xandra: You saw what she did to me!

Fyora: I know… but I can’t participate in the case. I’m the Queen, so I’m barred from testifying.

Xandra: Wow, so you have this rule in Faerieland for what? Just to make sure faeries are protected.

Fyora: …You know that’s not why. Imagine if I put my thumb on the scale for every case.

     Xandra: Fine, whatever.

Fyora: By the way, are you going to join us for the festival this year?

Xandra: No, I’m going to practice my magic.

Fyora: You should take a break from that.

     Xandra: No! Good day, Fyora!

     Fyora: Hmm… ok…

Record 11: In-Person / the 2nd day of the Month of Awakening, Y6

Xandra: I see there is a war again below us.

Fyora: *looking particularly sad* Yes, there is.

Xandra: Have you heard from Lord Darigan?

Fyora: *shakes head* No… I don’t know where he is… I could not find him…

Xandra: Is Faerieland going to provide help this time?

Fyora: Covertly yes, we need to help the Meridellians overthrow this “Lord Kass”. But we need to make sure the Darigans don’t find out and turn on us. I’d like to make sure we have good relations after the war, so I’ve asked Psellia to keep an eye on the skies above.

Xandra: The Darigans are cursed, and we’ve done nothing. Shouldn’t we send faeries to help? Why are we doing NOTHING to help again?

Fyora: Faerieland does not want to get involved in a hot war.

Xandra: So, we’re sitting off to the side again. Great. Just like every time something happens in Neopia. Nope, faeries don’t want to get involved.

Fyora: You know that’s not true; we’re doing all we can, Xandra. I know your heart breaks for the innocents there, and that is very admirable. But you can’t solve everything by brute force, Xandra-

Xandra: Really? It doesn’t look like we are even trying. We’re not even sending a delegation to help negotiate peace. What happened to your promise to send me to go figure out things? I know curses, you can’t just keep me here doing magic training with no field experience! *storms out of the room*

Fyora: Xandra! Xandra, wait! You didn’t let me finish. I-

Record 12: In-Person / the 3rd day of the Month of Gathering, Y6

Xandra: So why do faeries have Neopians do quests? Seems like we’re just using Neopians.

Fyora: Well, the faeries also help the pets with various blessings in exchange. Neopets are pretty happy to do them.

Xandra: Just because they are happy doesn’t make it right.

Fyora: Erm, well, I suppose that’s true, but Neopets have been doing them for a long time, and they use those abilities in the Battledome. Sometimes they use them to aid them during other battles.

Xandra: Well, again, just because it’s a tradition doesn’t make it right?

Fyora: *exasperated* Xandra, I understand you have concerns, but frankly, I don’t see the problem. If Neopets complain about doing quests, I will change them in a heartbeat.

Xandra: Hmph, why is everyone here so ingrained in their traditions and “ancient laws of magic”? It’s backwards.

Fyora: Well, uhh, thanks for your feedback? I’m sorry, I’m not sure what you want from me.

Xandra: Never mind, I’m asking stupid questions, I guess.

Fyora: Well, no questions are stupid...

     Xandra: Yes, there are apparently.

     Fyora: *sighs*

     Xandra: Anyways, I’m out.

Fyora: Ok, I guess I’ll see you later.

Record 13: In-Person / the 2nd Day of the Month of Swimming, Y7

Fyora: Xandra, you’ve been training in magic all day. You should take a break.

Xandra: I don’t need your concern.

Fyora: *winces at the sharp words* Xandra, you’ve been pretty sharp-tongued lately. I’ve tolerated it, but as Queen, I ask that you show me some respect.

Xandra: *mutters* Well, frankly, you’re not my queen. You are the Faerie Queen.

Fyora: Xandra, I strongly advise you to watch your tone here, please. As much as it pains me, I will not shy away from disciplining you.

     Xandra: Hmph! Fine…

Fyora: Good. Now, Xandra, you’ve been my best student. You’re doing excellent, but you’ve always treated everything as black and white and-

Xandra: I don’t have time for your advice.

Fyora: That’s enough defiance from you! I’m forbidding you from your magic studies for the time being. Hand me your wand.

     Xandra: …

Fyora: Now! Or I will be forced to take it from you…

Xandra: Sure, take my wand, as if that will stop me.

Fyora: The dungeons will stop you if you keep this up.

Xandra: You know what! This is it. I’m totally done with all this! All these old rules! You faeries make me sick! Living it up here, not a care for the rest of us! Yes, take my wand. I don’t care.

Fyora: Xandra! You know that is not true! Neopia is our home too! We care about it!

Xandra: Not enough to stop wars and suffering clearly! I’m done here!

Fyora: Look... Xandra… if it’s because I’m disciplining you, I’m doing it because I care about you. You can’t treat someone like this. Please don’t take it personal… *tries to hug Xandra*

Xandra: *jumps away from Fyora* I don’t need your hug! I don’t need your pity. This has nothing to do with your disciplining of me. I’m just done. Let me walk out of here in peace. I can still do magic without a wand, and you could easily be my first casualty.

Fyora: … Ok, I’m getting out of your way, if you wish to walk out of here, do so. My guards will follow you until you’ve left Faerieland.

Xandra: Oh, I’m not walking out of here… *suddenly disappears in a puff of green smoke*

Fyora: Xandra… I-I *falls to knees*

Aethia and Celandra: *rush to Fyora’s side*

Aethia: My dear! Is everything alright?! Did she hurt you?!

     Fyora: *shakes head*

Celandra: My Queen… you should get some rest.

     Aethia: Should we pursue Xandra?

Fyora: *shakes head vigorously* No. Don’t. I’ll try to get through to her later. Let her go…

Record 14: Neomail / the 3rd day of the Month of Hiding, Y8

     From: Fyora

Subject: Xandra, how are you doing?

     Dear Xandra,

I hope you are doing alright out there. I know we didn’t end our last conversation on the best of terms. I would like to apologise for that. The truth is I failed you, Xandra. I wasn’t around enough to make sure your voice was heard. I understand and take responsibility for what I have done.

You have so much potential, Xandra. I would love for the opportunity to help you realise your full strength. You care a lot about justice, and that is admirable. Should you return to Faerieland, we’ll welcome you with open arms.

But should you decide to stay wherever you are, I understand that too. Whatever you choose is your decision alone, and I will respect it. But I hope to hear from you soon, either way.

Please note that I really care about you and would like to see you if possible.

     Sincerely,

     Fyora

Record 15: Neomail / the 19th day of the Month of Collecting, Y9

     From: Fyora

Subject: Congrats on the New Job

     Hello Xandra,

I haven’t heard from you. I did hear from other Neopians that you have your own library now. I’m glad you’re choosing to share magical knowledge in Neopia. If you need any more books, I can send some over from the Faerieland Library.

I still hope you are doing well, and I hope to see you soon. It doesn’t have to be in Faerieland if you don’t want to come back. I would love to visit you, though.

I hope to hear from you soon.

     Sincerely,

     Fyora

Record 16: Neomail / the 2nd Day of Relaxing, Y11

     From: Fyora

     Subject: Still Thinking of You

     Dear Xandra,

It has been a while. I hope you are doing alright still.

You know I really do miss you, Xandra. I miss having breakfast together. I miss our teatime conversations. I miss training you. I know this is probably selfish of me, but I really would like to see you again just because talking to you was much more refreshing than all the meetings I have to attend.

I just wanted to know that even though today is Fyora Day, I don’t care for all these celebrations for me. I’m thinking about you, instead. And if possible, I desire to see you again.

     Sincerely,

     Fyora

Record 17: Neomail / the 10th Day of the Month of Gathering, Y12

     From: Xandra

Subject: Deciding to attend the Faerie Festival

     Hi Fyora,

I am sorry I have not gotten a chance to reply to your messages. The library has kept me busy. After all, acquiring rare tomes of magic hasn’t been easy. I wanted to let you know that I am going to be at the Faerie Festival this year. I am looking forward to seeing you. Hopefully, you have time to catch up.

And Fyora, I’m sorry I left on bad terms. I know this apology is very late, but I hope you’ll forgive me.

     See you soon,

     Xandra

Record 18: Neomail / the 18th day of the Month of Gathering, Y12

     From: Fyora

Subject: I’m So Glad to Hear from You

     Xandra,

I’m so glad you replied, and I really hope to see you soon. I will be sure to clear some time in my schedule just to be with you.

Of course, I forgive you. Sometimes we have disagreements, but I still care about you a lot.

You have to fill me in on what you’ve been up to, though. I am curious to see how you’ve grown.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

     Sincerely, with much love,

     Fyora
