The Complete Guide to the Deserted Fairground Games

by luuuvmebabe

--------

October is all about ghosts and zombies coming forth, the undead taking over, and the more unsavoury characters of the world finally having their time to shine. We glorify villains and monsters and talk a walk on the darker side of the world, and there is no place darker in the world than the Deserted Fairground. This torturous place can be found in the Haunted Woods! Just look for the flashing lights, screams of terror, and crying Neopians checking their empty pockets for any spare bit of change, so they can afford the bus fare home. This is the place to come if you want to lose it all, and they trap you by making you think you really have a chance to win.

The gag is that you do have a chance to win. This place thrives because one in a million, or a billion, does succeed and walk away with untold riches. That is what convinces thousands of users a day to come to this place and throw their Neopoints away trying to knock over coconuts or testing their strength. Some people think that the month of October has a higher chance of providing wins, since the characters found inside are in a jollier mood, but others think this is all a trick to make you lose even more of your hard-earned money. It is up to you to decide what is worth the risk, but you will be more informed after you read my complete guide to the Deserted Fairground.

          Test Your Strength

Every six hours, you get a chance to prove just how strong you are when you swing a giant mallet at a big red button. This is a familiar concept for those who have played Staff Bash, but you'll probably walk away with a lot less money. It doesn't matter how long you have trained at the Training Academy or how high your Pet’s strength is, there seems to be no real way to have control over how high the meter climbs. Some days you'll swing a four and others you'll go to almost a hundred. There is a grand prize involved, sometimes going all the way up to one million Neopoints, but it is so hard to actually win and in all my time swinging, I've never gotten it. This is a pretty cheap gamble, and because of the infrequency at which you can play, I would say this game is mostly harmless to the wallet.

          Bagatelle

Bagatelle allows you to throw a very depressed looking Mootix into a board of nails, hoping the Mootix will fall on the golden star and win you the jackpot. This jackpot can be worth millions, and at 250 NP per toss it seems like a worthwhile venture. One look at the game though and you will see that it is a crooked slab of wood tilted against your favour. Most of the time when I play I get a one, and if I'm lucky a two, I've never won anything significant and chances are you won't either. You can play this a lot in quick succession though, losing you a lot of Neopoints, but what if you win? You could have a lot of money!

          Wheel Of Misfortune

The story is really in the name with this one. Compared to the other Wheels around Neopia you don't really have much of a chance at winning. Your Neopet could get very sick, you could get things stolen by the Pant Devil, and all for just the CHANCE at a couple of thousand Neopoints? You are better off sticking with the Wheel Of Excitement!

          Cork Gun Gallery

If you have a keen eye and the skill of a marksman, this should be easy. But fair warning, it isn't. The cork gun seems to aim completely on its own. Sometimes it'll take the target you point at, but more often the cork flies off in a totally random direction. The prices aren't even that great, after spending a few thousand Neopoints, I won a can of Achyfi that was dented when it fell off the shelf. I'm not impressed with this game but a lot of people are drawn to it. So many of the boxes are so heavy they are near impossible to knock over with that little cork!

          Scratchcards

The Deserted Fairground Scratchcards are possibly your best bet at becoming a multi-millionaire here and that isn't even saying much. These scratchcards are more valuable than others found around Neopia, with larger jackpots and a shot at one of the rarest Battledome weapons in the world: a Moehog Skull. I stop by often to pick up a scratchcard and try my luck. So far I haven't done that well, but I know one day luck will be on my side. There is something about Sssidney that makes me feel really uncomfortable though.

          Coconut Shy

I don't know what the coconuts here are filled with, or if they are nailed to their stand, but they are almost impossible to knock over. If I'm lucky I can get one to shake on the post! You can spend hours throwing baseballs at them and not make a dent in any of them, but if you are able to take one out then you will be rewarded with a magic coconut that can go in one of your album pages or sell for hundreds of thousands of Neopoints. This is the favourite game of many Neopians because of the high rewards, but it can be really discouraging to never make any progress, no matter how many times your baseball connects with the coconut.

My best advice for the fairgrounds is to keep an eye on your cash and don't let yourself get too pulled in. They get you by making you think your next hit will be the big win, and before you know it you have zero Neopoints left and you are trying to sell your shoes for one more Mootix toss. It's a great place to walk around this time of year for the atmosphere or for shopping for some Spooky Furniture, but it is dangerous if you love the thrill of trying to win big.
