Happiness Faerie's Halloween Hints

by tiriosh

--------

Greetings, Neopians! It’s your favourite Happiness Faerie, chief Halloween correspondent, here - writing in to the Neopian Times to share all the wonderful ways you can spend this day with your family and friends. No matter where you are, from the depths of Maraqua to the orbit of Virtupets Station, the Happiness Faerie has the best advice for pumpkin-picking to decorating your secret lair to which houses give the best candy when trick-or-treating!

     Neopia Central

Of course, where else to start but the centre of Neopia? Ha, I bet you thought I’d start with the Haunted Woods. Bet I surprised you there!

The best streets for candy are Wishing Well Drive and Chia Close - the former as you’ll gain whatever candy you wish for; and the latter, of course, due to its place as the starting place of the Chocolate Chia Day Parade. Magical Road is a strong contender, though, with its supernatural treats. Avoid Soup Alley unless you want the rest of your candy to melt in broth - when they ladle out soup they don’t give you a fresh container!

     Mystery Island

If you’re in for a healthy treat instead of candy - then your priorities don’t line up with mine. Head to Fruity Path or Training Square, where the focus is on fitness. Island Crescent is the place for candy here. But even these well-populated neighbourhoods aren’t safe from the Ghost Lupe, so don’t travel alone - especially Chias.

For those interested in a supernatural fright, have the Island Mystic read your fortune or settle in for a retelling of the story of Sacrificers with the Underwater Chef. That Mumbo Pango is certainly someone to be admired! Maybe Garoo can set up something like that for me – oh, just as a reenactment, of course! Ha ha. Ha.

     Haunted Woods

Now what kind of Halloween correspondent would I be if I didn’t bring up the Haunted Woods? There’s much to do here, from the Deserted Fairground that always seems especially lively on fright night, to listening to spooky stories about the Tale of Woe that overran the once-quaint village of Neovia… Don’t forget to bring some ghostmallows to make s’mores! They’re tastier when downed with a scream.

Spookiness aside, however, the Haunted Woods is home to many welcoming families! I prefer Spider Lane, the third house in hands out spectacular gummy Korbat tails. You can even do a bit of reverse trick-or-treating by visiting the Brain Tree and Esophagor if you so wish.

     Terror Mountain

Another place where Terror is in the name, the young trick-or-treaters may want to stick to Happy Valley over the Ice Caves or Top of the Mountain. An ice cream, slushie, or warm mug of hot chocolate is just the thing. Denizens of Alpine Avenue love to dress up as if it were actually the Day of Giving! But their disguises aren’t as good as mine! No one suspects that I’m in - er, that I’d be so passionate about costumes!

For those who love a scary story - yes, we’ve got lots of those around Neopia! - then take the ski lift up Ski Lift Close and stop at the now-abandoned Ski Lodge to solve the Murder Mystery. The bravest souls will do their trick-or-treating by force, stealing treats from the Snowager. Watch out!

     Faerieland

I can’t lie, the tastiest candy is given out on Faerie Castle Road. This is where the richest Neopian families live, and they give out full-size candy bars. What’s not to love about that? Though, if you prefer higher cacao percentages, and you’re not afraid of a little spook or clouds of smoke, check out Dark Faerie Path. Mmm, dark chocolate.

For more spookiness, the Faerie Librarian is hosting a Haunted Tour of the places most impacted by Faerieland’s fall back in Y12.

     Tyrannia

The only place where you’re going to find a Halloween treat that isn’t hard as a rock - or really, literally a rock, and I’m not talking about Rock Candy - is the Plateau. But hey, the omelette “candy” could be worth as much as 20,000 Neopoints! Isn’t that wild.

No, Tyrannia is a little more literal with its spooks and scares. Check out the Lair of the Beast if you’re up for it, or if you want a rough and tumble holiday, check out the Obelisk. They say the fighting is still ongoing, and there’s no way the Awakened don’t get some sort of special powers on Halloween… I’ll have to see if I can harness those in my next attempt to - oh, nevermind me. Hee hee!

     The Lost Desert

When I was here, I didn’t want candy - it would just melt! Instead, I wanted water, and lots of it. Though they do say it’s bitterly cold at night.

Sakhmet Main Street is the place to be, with vendors handing out candy as they sell their wares. Those looking for something a little more frightening have several options: listening to a retelling of Usurper, the plot surrounding the next ruler of the Lost Desert, or the tale of the City of Qasala.

Watch out for pickpockets at the Sakhmet Slums - they like candy just as much as neopoints!

     Meridell

The berry maze at Meri Acres is like nothing you’ve ever seen before. They have it decorated with berry-shaped pumpkins, and you can pick-your-own-treats! Beware, however - the Rubbish Dump is nearby and that is a horror to anyone’s nose.

Denizens of Draik Row are a little stingy about handing out candy, but that’s easily mitigated by the generosity at Skarl’s Halloween Feast. Jeran, Lisha, and her friends are popular costumes; it is way more interesting to dress up as someone far more intelligent and handsome, like Dr. Sloth.

     Roo Island

Crypt of Doom Road. Need I say more? It’s so different from the rest of Roo Island that it’s a must-see on Halloween. Stop by at midnight to be invited to one of the best games of chance - Deadly Dice. It’s surely only deadly in name, right?

The Storytelling Contest goes all night, recounting ghost stories and shocking tales of the supernatural. You may even spy Corbin and Kell looking for their next tip of a monster to hunt. Or perhaps the monster is already present and they’re there tracking it down! It is a mystery indeed…

     Brightvale

Potionery Avenue has a delightful array of sweet drinks handed out by its natives, perfect after all the walking - or in my case, flying - after hours of trick-or-treating. King Hagan’s party is a little less lively than his brother Skarl’s, but still a lot of fun if you manage to impress him with enough wisdom to garner an invitation. Maybe stop by Knowitall Road for some tips in advance.

If you hear any noises on Mote Row, just ignore them. My forces are restocking their supplies - to hand out to the less fortunate of Neopia, of course! Children love receiving Novas when they make a wish!

     Maraqua

If you’re a more urbanite underwater dweller, you just may be able to snag a seat at Kelp. Most Neopians will be out and about, so this posh restaurant will have more openings than usual. The price tag, though - that might scare you! For the Neopian on a budget, Fisherman’s Square has a more affordable party with great treats.

For the Halloween explorer, the Maraquan ruins might be more your style. Whirlpools, Bubbling Pits, and Curses abound in this now-untamed place. Swim on if you dare…

     Darigan Citadel

Moonlit Path has surprisingly good candy. There are even Kass piñatas for those who wish to celebrate the true leader of Darigan Citadel, Darigan. If you listen closely, you can hear whispers of the Three… or is that just the wind?

For a spooky time, a tour of Dungeon Drive followed by games of Cellblock beneath Cell Block Row might suit your fancy. Thrill-seekers will enjoy haunted Eyrie rides that make a quick dive from Long Fall Canyon, or catch a battle at the Petpet Arena.

     Moltara

Rumor has it that not long ago, Malkus Vile was here. It certainly makes the place more interesting. But the city isn’t the spooky part of Moltara.

Courageous Neopians will brave the Dark Cave without a lantern. You can ask Igneot what they might find, but he may not give you a clear answer.

Even more daring Neopets will venture into the Magma Pool. That guard always seems to catch me - readers, it would bring the Happiness Faerie great joy if you would write back with the times you catch him napping. I have some Grundo friends who would just adore a colour refresh!

     Altador

Halloween is all about spine-chilling horrors, and the two scariest things in Altador aren't unique to Halloween night: the anger of that Yurble janitor and Virtupets not winning the Altador Cup. Regardless, there is still fun to be had on this spooky evening - the Punch Club hosts an exclusive party for those in its ranks!

The Restive Tomb is an eerie place to stargaze, perfect for the Halloween Astronomer. Ignore any abnormal activity in the sky, my forces are definitely not sabotaging the Space Faerie - the Happiness Faerie is great friends with Mira!

     Kreludor

Do not, I repeat, do NOT, go to the Kreludan Mining Corp. They have no candy and you won’t be authorized. It doesn’t need any pesky Neopets poking around and disturbing my plans - oh, excuse me, I mean it’s unsafe, you wouldn’t want anything to happen to your beloved friends and family, would you? It’s super boring there anyway.

Just spend your visit at the Neocola Machine instead, if you have the right token you could win a fabulous prize! If not, Neocola is delicious, drink it or perish! If you’re really desperate, go poke a meteor instead. What’s spookier than looking away, looking back, and suddenly a giant hunk of rock has disappeared?

     Krawk Island

Word on Warf Wharf is that there’s a little island off of the main Krawk Island that’s seen some attention. Some say they can hear Captain Scarblade’s laugh emanating from that direction. Are you gutsy enough to find out?

The Governor, trying to encourage tourism, is hosting a Halloween Ball at his mansion. With a mix of pirates and socialites, the festivities may be different than you expect. But that will mean everyone will be busy when I gather up their dubloons - in the game of Buried Treasure of course.

Don’t bring candy by the Food Club, the competitors say it spoils their odds.

     Shenkuu

Hoban Harbor serves up delicious delicacies either freshly imported or Shenkuu’s specialities ready for export. I like the spooky pho bowl, served only on Halloween, myself. Juma Square hosts a festival to remember one’s ancestors. The offerings are delicious. Um. Well. They look delicious, that’s what I meant.

The fearless will chase after Princess Lunara, who has managed to run away again. The cliffs and suspended rope bridges are not for the faint of heart!

     Kiko Lake

Those looking for a calmer evening will have a great time on one of Kiko Lake’s glass-bottomed boats. Each ship is carefully decorated like a Halloween sweet, and candies fresh from Kiko Lake Treats are served during each sailing.

If you’re looking to spruce up your Neohome before trick-or-treaters arrive, check out Kiko Lake Carpentry. They even have a twelve-foot tall Sklyde Halloween decoration, it’s super popular nowadays; you’ll be the talk of the neighbourhood.

For those interested in Carnival games that aren’t quite so spooky, Kiko Pop is even decorated like the Deserted Fairground!

     Jelly World

*written in the margin, mistakenly copyedited into the article*

Seriously? How did this even get in here? I knew I couldn’t rely on Nick Neopia to help ghostwrite this article.

     Virtupets Space Station

Obviously the best place to be on Halloween, it’s out of this world! The Recreation Deck is where it’s at. There is a Halloween dance party all night long! If puzzles are more to your interest, Spell or Starve is hosting a great Escape Room for everyone to partake in.

Don’t mind if a large, stoic Grundo escorts your pet behind the scenes to the Very Important Neopet area. It’s a special Halloween tradition for special pets to submit to brainwashing - I mean, teeth cleaning to ensure they can enjoy their candy without risk of cavities!

Any and all excess candy should be brought to the Lever of Doom. There’s a chance of a special reward for those who bring enough!

And that wraps up this year’s Halloween Hints! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some minions to plot world domination with - I mean, trick-or-treaters at my door! Catch you next time!
