Pet Name: Remidica
Breed: Zomutt

About Remi:
BANG. SLAM. WONK. WONK. WONK.
A nearby trash can slammed to the ground; it echoed through the alley way cutting into the silence of the night. Remidica, a bit perplexed and frightened at the sound, called out into the thick fog towards the darkness of the alley.
“Who’s there?” She called. No answer came. She stepped into the cobblestone alley and called out once more, “Who’s there?” Again, no answer came.
She timidly walked up to the fallen trash can. A few steps into the shadows cast by a nearby street light’s reach being cut off as suddenly as the sound of the trash can ended, she heard a rustle. Her heart skipped a beat. Her hairs stood up. She suddenly regretted walking into the alley. She started to turn and run back out when a small grey mutt appeared from under a newspaper.
It whimpered softly into the night, not noticing that Remidica had stepped up close by. It was grey, with four ears, horns and ruffled matted fur. Remidica strained to see more and almost lost balance causing her foot to catch on an unknown item on the ground. The sound startled the mutt back under the newspaper.
“Hey little guy, I won’t hurt you.” Remidica softly cooed as she took very slow steps to the newspaper. “That’s it. It’s okay.”
She lifted up the newspaper. There it was. Bright greens eyes staring back at her. Its body huddled down, frightened. It looked hungry. She called out to it more, softer each time until she finally coaxed it to her hand. The matted mutt slowly reached out to sniff her hand. Success, Remdica thought as she turned her hand gently into its fur and slowly patted. The mutt closed its eyes and Remidica swore she heard a sigh.
Remidica reached and slowly picked up the mutt. It was so tired and hungry, it didn’t fight her. Remidica nestled it in her arms and started slowly walking out of the alley way to her home. It wasn’t far, just a few streets over. The mutt nestled against the warmth of Remidica’s soft jacket.
---
A few streets over, Remidica arrived at her house and took the mutt by the fire place. She wrapped it up in a fuzzy blanket and started a fire. Once roaring, she prepared some leftover meat in her fridge and placed it on a plate at the foot of the mutt. The smell carried through the air to the mutt’s nose.
Sniff. Sniff-sniff-sniff. It’s nose lifted up almost by itself and veered towards the food laid before it. Its bright green eyes opened. CHOMP. GULP. LICK. What was once there, now gone, instantly as if magic took it away with a snap of a finger. The mutt looked up at the fire. Remidica giggled. The mutt snapped around and whimpered; the sound frightened it.
“Oh no, buddy. I’m sorry. No no. It’s ok. Shh.” She got down on the floor slowly and laid down next to the blanket on the floor. “Shhhh. It’s ok!” she patted the soft, fuzzy warm blanket.
The mutt just stared at her.
“Come here buddy. It’s ok.” She called out once more, but the mutt didn’t budge. Defeated, Remidica got back up and sat down in a chair nearby. The mutt waited a few moments then slowly moved back to the blanket and curled up inside it.
Hmph, Remidica thought, be that way. The mutt didn’t take long until it dozed off.
Remidica either.
___
Remidica opened her eyes suddenly. She looked around to the morning light through the windows. The fire had snuffled out through the night. She looked to the blanket. It was missing! Confused, she started to get up only to feel soft fuzzy warmth at her feet. She looked down. The mutt and the blanket was at her feet.
“So, the mutt brought the blanket to me and fell asleep. Awww, so cute.” The mutt opened its eyes and looked at Remidica. Yawn. Stretch. It moved groggily over to the plate unmoved on the floor and sniffed. It whimpered and fell slowly to the ground with a huff.
“You hungry little guy?” Remidica cooed to it. The mutt must have thought FOOD, because it looked up at her with perky ears. Green ears, Remidica exclaimed to herself. HOW CUTE. “Come on. Let’s get some breakfast.” She walked to the kitchen and the mutt slowly followed. Remidica laid out some scraps she had left on a plate and sat it down near the mutt. It didn't move. She frowned. Remidica walked back to her chair and sat back down, hoping to give it time to get to it itself.
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
Minutes passed like hours and Remidica only heard the soft pat, pat, pat of paws against the stone floor. Suddenly, a pan dropped to the floor with a loud BANG! Startled, Remidica jumped and ran to the kitchen. ZOOM- out ran the mutt back to the blanket on the floor. It must have gotten scared, she thought.
“Ugh, this mess!” She looked at the pan and it’s messed up slop next to it. Angrily, she dropped to the ground and cleaned up the mess. Once finished, she looked up at the mutt, obviously happily chomping away at something. Remidica had been too focused to realize it was in fact eating something, though it wasn’t what she sat out on the plate. Curious, Remidica made her way out of the kitchen.
There the mutt lie, happily chomping away at a huge bone from the meat she prepared last night.
“Ugh. Remi, Remi, Remi. What shall you ever do?” She spoke aloud to herself.
Suddenly, the mutt’s ears perked up and looked straight at her. Remidica thought it was strange.
“Ugh.’ She said. The mutt’s ears slowly faded downwards. Remidica thought some.
“Remi.” Suddenly the mutt’s ears perked up again and looked at Remidica. “Remi?” She called again. The mutt got up this time. “Remi!” she called excitedly and the mutt pitter pattered over to her. It sat at her feet happily.
“So your name is Remi?” She laughed.
BARK.
“Oh, so you talk to, eh?” Remidica chuckled. BARK BARK. The mutt wagged its tail. “Well, Remi. Let’s say we get you a bath and.. hey! Where are you going?” The mutt took off under the blanket. “We need to get you a bath.” The mutt barked from under the safety of the fuzzy blanket.
“Bath.”Bark.
“Bath.” Bark.
Remidica laughed.
“Oh you’re going to get a bath.. If it’s the last thing I do.”
And the chase commenced!
