The Amber Stones of Courage: Part Four

by ridergirl333

Fyora helped Sapphire fasten the Amber Stones around her neck. The day of the big concert had arrived, and the NeoJewels were making their debut.

Matt Bluehorn welcomed us on his front lawn. He was awed at the guest we had brought. "Royalty at my birthday party? Wow, you guys ought to charge a higher hourly rate for your performance."

"She's a guest. Get over it," the blunt Ruby said.

The guests stared arriving, and the band tuned up. Fyora and I warmed up together. Even doing simple scales, her voice was awe-inspiring. I wished for a voice like that.

Finally, Emerald, Ruby, and Amethyst walked onto the platform in Matt's backyard. Fyora and I followed. Emerald seized the microphone at the front. I could tell that he was nervous. He was gripping it so hard that his knuckles were turning white. "Are you ready to Rock?" he shouted.

     "Yeah!" yelled the crowd.

     "Are you ready to Roll?"

     "Yeah!"

"Are you ready to turn the music on so loud, it'll make the neighbors complain?"

"Just start the show already!" yelled a Bruce in the back.

Emerald obliged, striking a chord on his guitar. Ruby struck the same chord on her keyboard. Both gave me a significant look. I sang.

"An old chapter ends, and a new one commences.
Time to tear down your neighbors' fences.
Time to spread the happiness and cheer.
My party, my party is here."

Fyora took the second half of the verse.

"Throw away dignity and swallow your pride.
In the darkest corners the brave ones can hide.
Don't be afraid to let your true self show,
At my party, no one will know."

Emerald joined us for the chorus.

"At my party, my party, no one sheds tears.
Forget all your troubles and forget all your fears.
Share in the laughter; share in the joy.
Every girl and every boy.
Start the celebration, be the life of the throng.
For this is where the partiers belong.
Dance and sing and dance some more.
Dance like never before,
Never before."

Emerald went into a rockin' acoustic solo. Fyora leaped and danced gracefully on stage. Then, we repeated the chorus.

"Thank you, Neopia Central!" Emerald shouted into his microphone.

Perhaps I would never be brave enough to shout something as silly as that to a crowd. Perhaps I would always be nervous around Spyders. Perhaps I'd never be like Ruby and Emerald.

But I had found my destiny, and it is written in notes. All you have to do is strain your ears to hear it.
