Pinky - The Lonely Pink Uni by mulan1990 | |
Everything is new to Neopia once in its life. Including
pets. That is why baby Neopets need the most love they can get. But what happens
when too much love for Baby, and not enough for the others? Yasmin is about to
find out...
It was a happy day, happy, happy day. Yasmin
took her pink Uni out to the park. Yasmin could never afford a baby paint brush,
so she settled for a pink Uni, which she named Pinky. Pinky loved Yasmin, and
in Pinky's mind... she was Yasmin's baby Neopet. Strolling along the sidewalk
of the park, Yasmin and Pinky discovered something that would change both of
their lives forever! A baby Uni crying in the bushes for it's mother. Yasmin
quickly scooped up the baby.
"Pinky," Yasmin started, "who do you suppose
is its owner?"
Pinky ignored Yasmin. The idea of a baby in
the family was terrifying. Pinky could never ever share a place in Yasmin's
heart for a little baby! Pinky stared at the little thing. It could never be
as good as her, at least she thought so. And besides, Yasmin was so nice, she'd
give the little twit back to it's owner or one of her Neofriends. But just to
make sure, Pinky glanced around. She tried to find anyone that could possibly
have lost a baby Uni. No one seemed frantic or worried. Everything was orderly
and well-conducted. Yasmin smiled at the baby.
"What do you suppose we call her, Pinky?" Yasmin
questioned.
"Steal-Pinky's-Owner," Pinky answered back in
rage.
Yasmin shook her head, "Now, Pinky, that is
no way to act. Plus, her owner is looking for her right now I bet! But can't
we make her feel at home for a while? And you know, foster the little dear?
Remember when you were a little blue Uni? I do,
you were such a pain! But I got over it and came to love you. You're lucky I
adopted you, you know. Blue Unis are very common, especially in these parts
of Neopia. But I fell in love with you, and even painted you with all the Neopoints
I had!"
Pinky snorted. That was so not true,
Pinky thought to herself, I had to beg you to adopt me. And I did all the
chores and everything while you were a stupid n00b! Yasmin rolled her eyes.
"Well, Miss Pretty," Yasmin said harshly, "you
are now grounded. Fly us all home. When we get home, though, you go straight
to your room! And don't you even think of coming out to play with Baby. I am
going to get her bathed and cleaned up, and get her some baby food at the store.
While I am gone, I expect you to stay in your room. If I have to, missy, I'll
send over a babysitter!"
At that threat, Pinky had everyone hop on and
fly home.
At home, Pinky dropped everyone off. She entered
her room quietly. Yasmin never punished her before! What had gotten into her
owner? Pinky approached the window and stared outside where all her friends
were. Her best friend, Mel (a blue Kacheek), waved to her. Pinky gave an indecisive
smile and mouthed to her friend 'grounded'. Mel twitched her head with a frown
and shrugged. Pinky guessed she must have met 'It happens to the best of us'.
Pinky covered her window just as Mel pulled out a Cybunny bouncy ball. Pinky
couldn't stand this new way of punishment. 'Grounding' was not cool. It was
a restriction! No games, no going outside, no hogging the bathroom to look beautiful!
Plus, the baby was in the house. Pinky heard laughter and fun outside her door.
She laid on her beauty bed and cried. She cried those silent tears. For her
owner had found her dream pet. That Pinky had been only been a temporary pet
until Yasmin got what she wanted! Pinky tried not to believe her suspicions,
but with Yasmin and the baby having so much fun without Pinky, how could she
not? She grabbed out a notebook from her school supplies box along with a Fire
Faerie pen and started to jot down a runaway. What to pack, supplies needed,
a new name to disguise herself, and how to earn Neopoints once she escaped.
It took three whole days of planning, but after
she was ungrounded Pinky started working. Yasmin and Baby hadn't found Baby's
previous owner, so she unofficially belonged to Yasmin. Pinky didn't care anymore.
She packed a few apples, some cartons of milk, and a piece of jelly in her Fire
Faerie back pack. Then, she grabbed the notebook and pen she used nights before.
And also from her room, a scarf and hat, some shades, and a quilt. The quilt
had triangles of all colors. And in the middle a triangle of rainbow. Yasmin
never spoke of it. She had stuffed it in the back of Pinky's dresser. Well,
it wasn't Yasmin's, so it had to be Pinky's. Then, as she was about to steal
away, she heard footsteps coming from down the hall. Through a crack in the
door, she saw it was Yasmin!
But as quickly as the footsteps were approaching,
the doorbell rang. Yasmin ran to get it, she never turned down the door. Pinky
listened closely. It was Mel. Oh, she was only selling cookies, her little hobby.
She always knew Yasmin to be her number one purchaser. Pinky peeked out the
window, too obvious to jump out. So she went through the back door. No one would
ever suspect a thing! She sneaked to the side of the house, where she knew Mel
would walk by. Mel was the only living creature Pinky could rely on.
As Mel walked by, Pinky grabbed her and shushed
her down.
"What are you doing?" whispered Mel, staring
at the back pack jammed with supplies.
"Running away," said Pinky. "Yasmin was using
me. It's hard to explain, but I will write you. Maybe from a lot of different
account, so don't ever write me back until I say I am going steady. And I'm
changing my name. But you can always call me Pinky. But never, I repeat never,
tell Yasmin. I will miss you, Billy, Joan, and everyone! But my life depends
on it. And maybe, well, never mind. But, don't worry about me. I will be fine.
Oh, and take this." Pinky took out her favorite toy of all. Her Deluxe Blue
Uni plushie. "It would bring back too many memories. So, I want you to have
it. And always remember me, please. Promise me, you won't forget?"
Mel was blank. She gripped the toy in her paw,
and embraced her old time friend.
"It won't be the same," Mel said, "but I know
you are doing it for the best. And, you are the best. Don't ever let anyone
tell you that you are not. I have a feeling this isn't all because of that baby
Uni. There's more, I feel. But if you are sure you want to leave, I hope you
are right. And, I won't ever forget you. You will always be my Pinky -- my best
friend. And when you find a new place to go, please, write me and everyone!
I can't wait to hear your adventures. And, don't get hurt."
Yasmin screamed. So Mel and Pinky departed their
separate ways. Pinky took off into the sky, careful not to let anyone spot her,
she took many stops in trees to hide. Yasmin was going to be gone forever. No
longer will she deal with trying to be perfect, but she did have more responsibilities
now. To earn food and Neopoints herself. And to find shelter if the weather
got harsh, which is was destined to. Pinky would make it. Somehow. Maybe someday
she'd return to her old home, and see her friends again. But for now, she was
on her own. But, looking on the bright side, she was her own Uni. Never again
to be forced to live with an intolerable owner. And hey, she got a free painting.
And she had some mysteries to solve. Where did the odd quilt with triangles
come from? What was she going to face alone? Would she find a new owner, or
live alone?
The End
