Aniviel was a beautiful young Faerie Uni. She loved many
things, only some of which included battling in the Battledome, going to Neoschool,
and spending time with her owner doing all kinds of things.
Often though, perhaps too often, the Uni longed
for a best friend. A companion who would cheer her on at her Battledome tournaments,
and someone to talk to at school. She loved her owner dearly, but wished for
someone her age to hang around with.
One bright spring day, Aniviel met that someone.
***
The Faerie Uni sat at her desk, hooves laid out properly in front of her.
The teacher stood up. “Class, I have someone
to introduce to you,” she said. “This is Silina. Aniviel, she will be sitting
next to you. Everybody, please make her feel welcome.”
Silina was a shadow Gelert. Aniviel noticed that
she walked with a limp, and realized that her front left paw was shorter than
her others. She had a bright and friendly smile though, and Aniviel couldn’t
help but smile back.
“Hi Silina,” she welcomed. “I’m Aniviel, as the
teacher said. Where are you from?”
“I’m not really from anywhere. My owner and I
have been almost everywhere. We just moved from Mystery Island. I don’t really
know how long we will live in Neopia Central,” said the Gelert, “but I hope
long enough to make some friends. I’ve never had a real friend before.”
“Me neither,” Aniviel said regretfully. “Have
you been to Jelly World, too?” she wondered aloud.
“Oh, silly Aniviel. Everyone knows that Jelly
World doesn’t exist,” she winked, mischief in dancing in her eyes.
“Stop the talking girls,” said the teacher.
Aniviel whispered to Silina. “I’ll talk to you
at lunch. Sit by me.”
The two girls smiled at each other. They knew
they would be fast friends.
***
A few weeks later, Aniviel ran up to Silina in the school hallway. “So, what
are you going to do for the spring picnic today after school? I can’t believe
there’s only one week left till summer vacation!”
Silina gasped. “I forgot all about the picnic!”
“Oh, don’t worry about it. You can come to my
house after school, and we can get ready there. My owner makes really good sandwiches,”
she replied.
“Oh, okay. Only if you’re sure, though.”
“I’m positive. It’ll be fun. Besides, you’re
my friend,” she urged.
Silina smiled and nodded. “Okay, Aniviel, I’ll
come.” What the Uni had said was true -- the two were becoming close friends
indeed.
***
School was out at last, so Aniviel practiced in the Battledome much more, but
she practiced with Silina now.
The two girls were trying out their moves on
Punchbob. Silina thwacked the thing as hard as she could, but nothing happened.
She frowned.
“Like this Silina,” instructed the Uni as she
tore open a part of Punchbob’s cloth body, causing stuffing to fly out.
The Gelert tried again, this time, succeeding
in breaking some of the stuffing out. She looked at her friend, a huge grin
spread across her face.
“Great job!” Aniviel encouraged, hugging Silina.
“Thanks! Now let’s go celebrate the defeat of
Punchbob with an ice cream cone,” she giggled.
***
The next day, Aniviel raced to her friend’s house, and burst into her Neohome
door without knocking. “Silina!” she cried.
The black Gelert appeared from the hall. “Yeah,
what is it?” she asked.
“My owner gave me some Neopoints to buy a petpet
with, and I want you to help me choose. Come on, follow me!” the excited Uni
exclaimed, grabbing her friend by the paw and tugging her along.
Clumsily, Silina followed, limping along behind
her. “Aniviel, can you believe my birthday is in only eight days? I guess I
forgot to tell you,” she said excitedly.
“I didn’t know!” Aniviel said, wondering what
she would buy her friend. Finally, they arrived at the marketplace.
“Ooooh, the Gruslen is so cute!” Silina exclaimed
when she saw it.
Aniviel nodded in awe. “But it’s 12,000 Neopoints.
I have only 6,000 to spend,” she said regretfully.
“Then how about this Snowbunny?” Silina asked.
“Awww, it’s so cute! And it’s not too expensive
either. Just in my price range.” Without another word, Aniviel bought the Snowbunny.
“I’ll name it Shiver,” she announced.
Shiver kept the girls occupied with her adorable
antics until it was time for the Gelert to go home.
Once she left, Aniviel knew what she wanted to
do. She would go out and earn enough Neopoints to buy her friend a Gruslen for
her birthday. She had really adored the critter, and after all, what better
gift to get for her best friend?
***
Silina’s birthday came around, and Aniviel rushed with the orange petpet in
her hooves, to Silina’s house to give it to her.
She knocked excitedly on the d door, which was
answered by Silina. Without a word, Aniviel pushed the Gruslen into Silina’s
paws and smiled. “Happy Birthday Silina!” she joyfully said, hugging her friend.
Silina gasped. “But it’s so expensive! Why?”
“Because you’re my best friend,” smiled the Uni.
***
Summer was drawing to a close. Aniviel had just bought her new Neoschool supplies,
and was going to Silina’s house to see if she had bought hers.
When she arrived and raised her hoof to knock,
the door opened and an Acara trudged out, carrying a few boxes.
Aniviel wandered into the house, which was almost
empty, and saw Silina. She gazed questioningly at her.
“Oh Aniviel, I’m moving!” cried the Gelert.
“What? That’s impossible! You can’t! You’re my
best friend, Silina,” she said, hugging her friend.
The last box was carried from the house, and
Silina’s owner spoke. “We have to go now.”
The two friends hugged. Aniviel knew she would
probably never see Silina again. A single tear trickled down her cheek as she
stood in the vacant Neohome, watching her best friend leave her.
The tear hit the floor, and made a clinging sound.
It had hardened and turned to glass in midair. Aniviel picked it up and stared
at it in awe. She clutched it to her face. It was a sign -- a sign that she
would see Silina again someday.
From that day on, Aniviel referred to the hardened
tear as a Unicorn’s Gem. She used it as a good luck charm in all her Battledome
battles. Every time she looked at it, she was reminded of Silina, her only true
best friend. She knew in her heart that they would meet again.
THE END
Author’s Note: This is my first attempt at a “Legend” or whatnot. It is
the legend of how a Unicorn’s Gem was made, since the description of the item
says it was formed by a Uni’s tear. Any comments and constructive criticism
are welcomed!
