As noon passed Moonlight opened her eyes. Her stomach rumbled noisily when she realised she hadn't eaten anything since dinner. She opened her sack and munched noisily on a peach. She planned to find a village that day and figure out where she was and where she was headed.

As she sat in the forest she heard a trickling noise. She trotted towards it and came to a clearing with a small meandering steam that was fairly shallow. Moonlight decided she might be able to follow the stream to a village that would be nearby.

Sure enough, an hour later she arrived at a small village. After a couple minutes conversation with a passing Blumaroo, Moonlight found out that if she followed the river she'd come to a mountain path that led to one of the highest mountains in Neopia. Moonlight wasn't to sure at her rock climbing ability but decided that she should try it out. Thanking the Blumaroo, Moonlight headed towards the river.

At the village there was a man with a boat. It was 25 Neopoints for a trip down the river to the mountain pass. She realised that her hooves would get sore from walking and she couldn't fly for a long time or wings would hurt too. She pulled out the Neopoints and gave them to the man.

As the boat lurched forward, Sheik entered the village. He raced for his house, praying that Jon and Marv weren't outside. Unfortunately, they were.

Jon and Marv made it a point to always pick on Sheik. They each had four NeoPets and each week would go into the woods to find the faeries that would teach them different techniques. Their pets became really strong and were widely known.

"Hey Sheik!" Jon shouted. "My Eyrie just learned Alchemy and Jon's Jetsam learned Song of the Volcano. Oh wait, that was last year." He sniggered. "Aren't you ever going to get a NeoPet?" Jon added. "They're so fun. Plus, if you beat 'em hard enough they learn even more." With that Jon and Marv laughed even harder.

Sheik felt incredibly sorry for the pets that Jon and Marv had. The poor things probably had tough lives.

As he entered his house he saw a note on the table. Sheik, we went fishing today, maybe we'll catch something good for dinner. See you this afternoon! -Love, Mom and Dad P.S. Don't get into trouble OK? Sheik laughed. It was as if his parents knew what he was planning. He grew sober then realising what he wanted to do.

Frowning a bit he took a pen and wrote Mom and Dad, I know you're going to get mad as soon as you read this put this is important. I really want a NeoPet I took my canoe and went down the river. I'll be back soon. But I need to do this. -Sheik.

He left the note on the table and put some food and clothes in his backpack along with some rope and a pocketknife. In the back of his house he got the canoe he took out to go fishing with his mom and dad with. With that, and his backpack and a paddle he headed for the river.

"OK, time for you to get out missy," said the man on the boat. Moonlight nodded and stepped off onto the rocky ground. "You be careful up there," he grunted, for he was not a man to be noted for caring for others.

Moonlight smiled. "Don't worry, that's why I have wings." She started towards the trail.

Sheik wasn't having as much luck, however. He had easily gotten through the tranquil part of the river. Along the way he had stopped to eat lunch.

Once when he had bent down to pull out a sandwich he heard a splash. He looked up quickly, and saw a beautiful pair of blue eyes looking curiously at him. When the creature saw Sheik looking at her she had plopped back into the water. "Wow!" Sheik had exclaimed. "That was a Water Faerie!"

Now, though, the water was flowing faster. Soon jagged rocks stuck out of the water. The canoe teetered dangerously, as Sheik desperately tried to keep it from capsizing. After 10 minutes, he had paddled past the rocks, but the canoe was still speeding through the water. Up ahead, Sheik heard a roaring noise that sounded like thunder. "Oh no. . ." whispered Sheik fearfully. Then the canoe and he were lost in mist.

What will happen to Sheik? Is he a goner? Find out next time in Moonlit Destiny.
